High Voice,Vocal Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.835449 Composed by Stuart Brown. 20th Century,Contemporary,Spiritual. 37 pages. Stuart Brown Music #4285583. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835449). If you are looking for a genuinely beautiful and rewarding work for solo voice and piano, to fill a 20-minute time slot, then Idylls is for you. It provides an opportunity for both singer and pianist to demonstrate an ability to communicate a wide range of emotions. It is particularly satisfying for the pianist, whose part is anything but subservient to the vocal line and provides an opportunity to shine. At notated tempo the work lasts just under 18 minutes; the concert première performance (in January 2019) lasted just short of 20 minutes because of the slower tempo at which the performers chose to take the fourth song. While intended primarily for the concert platform, Idylls contains some profoundly Christian themes that may make it suitable also for church use in an appropriate context.Although intended for professional use, Idylls may be within the technical capability of advanced high school students, noting that the third song ('Of old sat Freedom on the heights') has a piano part that was described as 'challenging' by the professional pianist who first performed it in public (Jonathan Ellis, January 12th, 2019).As noted above, Idylls can work for church services in various contexts, although not all of the songs are necessarily appropriate to the same context. The lyrics themselves provide the best guidance in this respect. From observing the rehearsal sessions of the two professionals who first performed the work (Chen Wang and Jonathan Ellis), the composer suggests that none of the songs - however apparently straightforward - should be taken for granted. There are nuances in all of them that require careful attention to timing and pitch. The vocal entries in the opening song require careful attention to pitch. In the second song concentrate on the timing and making it sound as light and dance-like as possible. The third song requires the singer to keep an E-flat in mind at all times (in order to pitch entries) and to sing to strict meter regardless of what the pianist is playing. The fourth song requires both grace and intensity. Pitch is the main issue, particularly some of the B-natural entries; pay special attention to timing in the first verse. The fifth and final song is melodically straightforward; pay attention to timing in the second verse.Stuart Brown composed Idylls in early 2015 specifically for the London-based Chinese soprano Chen Wang. She performed it in public for the first time, accompanied by Manchester-based pianist Jonathan Ellis, at a concert in the southwest of England in January 2019.Performing rights are handled in the UK by PRS for Music, in Canada by SOCAN, in the USA by ASCAP, BMI and SESAC. Small Ensemble Baritone Saxophone,Bass Saxophone,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533585 Composed by Carson Cooman. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 15 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3029121. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533585). Polpis Dreaming (2002) for contrabass saxophone and piano was commissioned for and isdedicated to Jay C. Easton. The work was inspired by Easton's championing of the more unusual members of the saxophone family, particularly the contrabass with its incredibly powerful and deep sound.  This work is recorded on Easton's SoLow CD.The title refers to Polpis, a region of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts that borders Nantucket Harbor with a variety of smaller inlets. This work is one of a variety of pieces connected to the landscape of Nantucket. In the case of this piece, the extra-musical image was one of the incredible depth of the ocean (perhaps parallel to the depth of the contrabass saxophone's sound) slowly being explored/achieved through the means of inlets. The work's basic material comes from the saxophone's opening gesture, which moves upwardfrom the bottom of the instrument. The pitch material and interval content that are transformed throughout the work are presented in that motion. The first section of the work is declamatory, with lyric impulses. The material of the work is unfolded as the sounds of the piano's resonance, combined with the tone of the contrabass saxophone are explored. A faster middle section occurs next in which the harmonic gestures and transformations are always moving towards greater consonance. After the middle section, there is a return to the mood of the opening, although the material of the middle section also appears in transformation.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533698 Composed by Carson Cooman. Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 71 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3038887. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533698). Shining Space: Quintet for Horn and Strings (2006) was commissioned by and is dedicatedto Hazel Dean Davis and Stephen Hackbarth on the occasion of their marriage, June 24, 2006.The work was premiered by James Sommerville, horn with Sarah Kapustin and FrancescaAnderegg, violins, Nathan Burke, viola, and Peter Lorenzo Anderegg, cello. The basic musical material for the work is a set of intervals which is gradually “expandedoutward†– moving from close dissonance to luminous consonance. This could be seen torepresent a sense of freedom, growth, and a bright future. The first movement, Bright Morning Sky, begins vibrantly with ecstatic ringing in the higherstrings. The cello presents the work’s basic pitch material in dramatic gestures. The hornthen enters: first abortively and then affirmatively – changing the texture to focus on itself. The horn continues lyrical melodic development while the strings react, dissipating theirinitial energy. Nervous tremolos in the strings start to build back energy again, leading to awild climax. The music then relaxes into the next section marked “Slow, suspended.†Thehorn and strings interact melodically, supported by luminous harmonies. The nervoustremolos return, regaining energy towards the coda. The work ends with the ecstatic ringingof the opening – but, this time, the harmonic material is open and bright. The second movement, I Am the Vine, is serene and expressive – consisting of a series ofcanons which develop, break-off, and start again. The canons are almost always in twovoices – representing two lives intertwining. The third movement, Chasing Windflower, returns to the energy of the opening movement. However, the harmonic language begins this time with the open sonorities. Darker colors(from the first movement) continue to interject, but are always overwhelmed by a sense offree-wheeling excitement. The work presses on to an ecstatic coda – with a sense ofunfettered joy.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818064 Composed by Anton R. Tajanlangit. Christian,Contemporary,Spiritual. Score. 7 pages. Antonality #4612847. Published by Antonality (A0.818064). No More Pain - in memory of Sr. Cecille Tajanlangit, OSC. The very last note says it all...In October 2016, my younger sister Marilou, who is also Sr. Cecille Tajanlangit, OSC, Mother Abbess of the St. Clare Monastery in Biliran, Leyte, Philippines, died of a chronic illness that had no known cure and that had caused her so much pain and suffering through so many years.A few months before, and going into the time that she died, she had been listening to all my works, 24/7, by her bedside. She told me over an overseas call that she was my number one fan and joked that she wanted to be the president of a fan club she was going to start up for me.But then not long afterward, she passed away-more than 13,000 kilometres away from me.I just composed this very sad piano piece to commemorate her life, which she had dedicated to Christ in His sufferings too. I'm sure she will hear this too from wherever she is. I did ask her, when she was still alive, to let God hear all my works when she gets to heaven. She said she would. Maybe that's where my fan club will be set up, among the angels! Those who were by her death bed recount that she twitched slightly on her last breath, and at the next instant a smile of deliverance showed up on her face! Please play the piece and try to decipher the hidden meanings behind each section. Towards the end of the piece, she falls into Jesus' lap and ... on the very last note, everything that she was hoping for came true. NO MORE PAIN!P.S. Musicians who hear this will recognize it as the Tierce de Picardie.

Large Ensemble Cello,Oboe,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.976993 Composed by Keith Moss (b.1982). 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 49 pages. Keith Moss #3469748. Published by Keith Moss (A0.976993). Cagn endeavors to depict the South African landscape using sound colours that allude to the Khoi-San. A homage to my mentor Péter Louis van Dijk, these gestures are achieved by making use of extended techniques in the stringed instruments. According to San mythology Cagn (Kaang) is the supreme god of the San and creator of the world. He has the ability to transform himself into various creatures but mostly takes the form of a praying mantis. The form of the work is a theme and variations. Just as Cagn was a trickster in the spiritual realm of the San, so is this piece. The work begins with the last variation working forwards towards the theme, which is heard at the end rather then in its traditional place at the beginning.

However, rather than a nonstop, wildly virtuosic affair that might be suggested from the title, it is in fact quite the opposite: the piece centres on the image of a flame moving outwards towards its turbulent and flickering edges. She believes that this image also reflects what fine musicians have mastered - the ability to work from a place of centred calm in order to display astonishing virtuosity. A refrain from June Carter Cash's song 'Ring of Fire' is also interwoven throughout the piece, in homage to the famous songwriter who died whilst Larsen was composing the piece.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1485695 Composed by Andrei Hadap. 21st Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score. 44 pages. Andrei Hadap #1062766. Published by Andrei Hadap (A0.1485695). A Holiday in Naples (2021, rev. 2024) I. At the CarnivalII. A Merchant at the Spinning WheelIII. In the BallroomIV. At the Opera             V. At the Plaza A Holiday in Naples is a five-movement programmatic work for solo piano composed in 2021 by Andrei Hadap. Composed in the late nineteenth century style, it depicts a lone traveller, on holiday, who explores the city of Naples in the same period. Each movement is a short scene that narrates the traveller’s experience during his visit through music. The first movement, At the Carnival, in sonata form, begins with a slow introduction as the traveller sets foot at the pier in the morning. The main allegro begins as he hears the carnival from a distance and proceeds to explore, represented by the scherzando-like figures. Short episodes of tranquillity interrupt the carnival as the traveller, in a reverie, looks out to admire the Neapolitan coastline. The piece ends as the carnival fades out into the distance. Contrasting with the festivities, the traveller encounters A Merchant at the Spinning Wheel, the title of the second movement. This encounter depicts the reality of the poverty-stricken region at the time. Here, the merchant is depicted in a trance-like state, as the monotonous arpeggiated figures at the piano are heard throughout. Later in the piece, we hear the agitated merchant spinning the wheel faster, distracted by the carnival, but eventually calms down towards the end. The third movement, In the Ballroom, the traveller enters a ballroom, observing the dancers from a distance. He finds himself drawn to a young woman, though slightly nervous, whom he invites to dance. In the middle section, we hear the awkwardness between them as they both stumble frequently. Eventually, he regains his composure and the two dance well into the evening. In the fourth movement At the Opera, the traveller then goes to a nearby opera house where he walks in during a love duet between a tenor and soprano. The final movement At the Plaza, the traveller encounters the carnival once again. This time, they are dancing a tarantella, a Neapolitan folk dance depicting the involuntary muscle spasms from a venomous spider bite. The traveller joins in and dances with them until sunrise.

Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755027). This is the set of parts that print on letter size paper. The score that prints on legal size paper is available separately. This three movement composition is a musical portrait of Delaware up until its being the first state to ratify the constitution. It was composed for the University of Delaware Wind Ensemble, Dr. Robert J. Steckfuss, conductor as a result of a commission from the Xi Mu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. The work is in three movements: I. Stewards of the Land - This movement is a tribute to the Lenni Lenape Indians. It uses a melody from a Lenape Indian song that is first stated in the English Horn. This melody is then developed through adding counterpoint, harmony, orchestration, motivic variation, rhythmic and tempo changes, and the addition of original material. II. Settlement and Conflict - This movement reflects the European settlement of Delaware and the conflict with the indians. It begins with slow section representing serenity. A faster section using a melody from a Dutch dans represents the first European settlement in Delaware. A minor version of the dans combined with fragments of the Lenape Indian song from the first movement represents the conflict. This is followed by a return to the serenity section. A final fast section introduces a setting of the Swedish melody from Amerikabrev, representing the first permanent settlement in Delaware by Sweden. The movement ends with a section of Rule Britannia representing the colony falling under British rule. III. Forging A Nation - This movement portrays events leading towards being the first state to ratify the constitution. The movement begins with a section reflecting the anxious times of declaring independence, fighting for freedom, and forging a new government. The second section builds in confidence. After a slower section of reflection, the movement ends triumphantly in celebration of a new country.
