A Time to Rejoice! is a dramatic and poignant cantata for schools/children's choirs and piano (organ accompaniment also available) in which performers and audience embark on an exciting journey through time to witness the events of the first Easter.  The time machine is somewhat unreliable, adding humour to the story, and stops are made in the Garden of Eden and Bethlehem before arriving in Jerusalem for Palm Sunday and the events of the crucifixion.  The optional second parts greatly enhance the cantata and can be sung by a group of children or even an adult choir.Whilst not a staged production, there is plenty of scope for acting in the roles of the Captains, and props such as tea lights for the opening procession, pilots' hats for the Captains and palm branches in the song The King is Coming.A Time to Rejoice!  was premiered by St. Joseph's in the Park school, Hertingfordbury, UK on 17 March 2023.  Here are some comments from staff/parents:'A Time to Rejoice! was amazing...the best production St. Joe's has ever put on' Deputy Head.'An absolutely amazing evening! Wind Quartet - Oboe (or Flute), Clarinet, Horn, BassoonO Saviour of the World is a beautiful 19th century hymn, written for SATB choir with optional organ accompaniment, by Sir John Goss (1800-1880). Suitable for religious festivals such as Lent, Easter and Christmas, but also for secular events where some solemn beautiful music is required. Goss was organist at St Paul's Cathedral in London and a Professor of Harmony at the Royal Academy of Music where Sir Arthur Sullivan was among his pupils. Although this is an instrumental transcription, we can still hear the emotion through the musical techniques employed by the composer; such as sequences of overlapping lines, unexpected harmonies, the contrast between smooth legato passages and declamation, and the sudden change to unison for emphasis, all with carefully thought out dynamics.

La Casa‘l Señor Cura & El Mandilín: these traditional folk tune from Asturias (Spain) are arranged for two melody instruments and is one of a number of folk tune arrangements by the UK based folk duo Na-Mara.  Written in 2/4 time in the key of A, La Casa‘l Señor Cura & El Mandilín can be played as a duet on two mandolins or on any C clef instruments (violins, ukuleles, flutes etc), with the guitar chords accompanying the individual players. We came across this particular tune played by the Asturian band Niundes from their album Enxamás Ye Pa Siempres.Performance tips: this is intermediate level piece played allegro or medium fast speed. We have added a second melody part to the original tune, and this makes a nice interplay between the melody instruments. Both parts interplay and inter-wind so it is a good exercise to work on the balance between the two instruments, varying the dynamics on some of the repeated sections. The guitar accompaniment can be played with strummed chords. This make a nice set when it is coupled with our arrangement of the Spanish Asturian folk tune, Les Dancites
