Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Bass Clarinet,Flute,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1329478 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Traditional. 6 pages. Jmsgu3 #917460. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1329478). We Three Kings is a Christmas hymn John Henry Hopkins Jr. penned in 1857. It describes the journey of the Wise Men, also known as the Magi, to see the baby Jesus. The names of the kings passed down through tradition are Melchior, Caspar, and Balthazar. The number three in the title stems from the fact that there were three separate gifts given to Jesus: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The hymn was composed for a Christmas pageant at the General Theological Seminary in New York City, where Hopkins taught music. It was the first Christmas carol to achieve widespread popularity originating from the United States. The song is known for its lilting tune in triple meter and its distinctive contribution to the Christmas carol repertoire, with a narrative-ballad style and a straightforward, child-friendly narrative. The hymn was also included in The Oxford Book of Carols and has been recorded by various musicians in different music genres, including jazz, rock, and reggae.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1120600 Composed by John Henry Hopkins Jr. Arranged by Aaron Lee. 20th Century,Christmas,Holiday,Instructional,Jazz. Score. 4 pages. J. Aaron Lee #721846. Published by J. Aaron Lee (A0.1120600). This solo piano arrangement of the classic Christmas carol We Three Kings (originally titled, Three Kings of Orient) makes use of some dense and jazzy chords and a very slow, free tempo. It is a contemplative and laid-back approach to the carol. The chords themselves are dense, and there are a couple spans of a 9th, but otherwise this arrangement should be very manageable for an intermediate-level pianist. Michael Thomas Andrews #3687613. Published by Michael Thomas Andrews (A0.787418). 'We Three Kings' is a wonderful and perfectly majestic Christmas carol written by John Henry Hopkins Jr. in the ninteenth century.  Hopkins' original intention was that each of the verses about bringing a gift to the baby Jesus would be sung as solos by individual men representing the three magi, while the opening and closing verses would be sung by all three wise men along with the congregation.  Here, the carol has been written with the melody line in notation with TAB, as well as simple ukulele chords.
