Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1284426 Composed by Dan McCoy and William Byrd. Contemporary,Early Music,Historic,Renaissance,Traditional. Score. 17 pages. Dan McCoy #875598. Published by Dan McCoy (A0.1284426). Composed in dedication to Prof. Bernhard Klapprott and Prof. Myriam Eichberger as well as their students at the Early Music Department of The University of Music founded by Franz Liszt in Weimar, Germany.During the early 21st century, the Weimar Rathaus, or City Hall, marked each quarter hour by chiming the so-called Westminster Quarters, clearly announced in the opening measures of The Bells of Weimar. This piece is a re-working of Renaissance composer William Byrd's The Bells, which appeared in The Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, an important collection of 16th-17th-century keyboard music from England. Byrd's original two-note bell theme, which runs throughout his entire piece, has been replaced with Westminster Quarters in this neo-Renaissance mash-up, altering the ensuing harmonies in a striking way.- from the Preface to the forthcoming collection of music by Dan McCoy entitled, The Weimar Virginal Book, expanded edition (2024).

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.726088 Composed by Traditional English Carol. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christmas,Holiday,Traditional. Score and parts. 17 pages. Con Spirito Music #4790249. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726088). Past Three O'Clock (or Past Three A Clock) is a Christmas carol loosely based on the traditional cry of the city night watchman, set to the English traditional tune, London Waits. The tune and refrain have been known since the Renaissance, and both were possibly used by London's waits (also waites or waytes). According to the Encyclopaedia Brittanica (1911):The earliest waits (those of the 14th and 15th centuries) were simply watchmen who sounded horns or even played a tune on a flute or flageolet to mark the hours. This appears to have been known as 'piping the watch....' The duties of the London waits, which included playing before the mayor during his annual progress through the streets and at city dinners, seem to have been typical of all 16th- and 17th-century city waits. The London waits had a special uniform of blue gowns with red sleeves and caps, and wore a silver collar or chain round the neck. In the 18th and early 19th century the ordinary street watchmen appear to have arrogated to themselves the right to serenade householders at Christmas time, calling round on Boxing Day to receive a gratuity for their tunefulness as well as their watchfulness. When in 1829 their place as guardians of the city's safety was taken by police, it was left for private individuals to keep up the custom. This arrangement of this sprightly tune features the Westminster Chimes (aka Westminster Quarters or Cambridge Quarters), the tune written for the clock tower at Cambridge in 1793, as introduction, in accompaniment, and at the conclusion of the piece.©Copyright 2019 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music. Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.972672 Composed by James Siddons. Christian,Concert,Contemporary,Easter. Score. 17 pages. James Siddons Music and Writings #6671707. Published by James Siddons Music and Writings (A0.972672). Sonata Hymnica No. 5 has the subtitle Scenes of Calvary. Landscape paintings and printed illustrations of the Cross of Calvary were ubiquitous in Christian literature in the late 19th century, so it not surprising that allusions to such art are found in the texts of hymns. The three hymns heard in Sonata Hymnica No. 5 all evoke some sense of seeing, in a spiritual way, the scene of the Crucifixion. Sonata Hymnica No. 5 opens with a sturdy and rugged statement of When I Survey the Wond’rous Cross, written by Isaac Watts in 1707. This poem continues: On which the Prince of Glory dy’d, . . . See from His Head, his Hands, his Feet, Sorrow and Love flow mingled down!   In the United States, music educator Lowell Mason (1792-1872) composed a tune in 1824 for singing Watts’ hymn. Named HAMBURG tune, it was an adapted form of some Gregorian chant in Church Mode I. This combination of poem and tune became very popular; so much so, that by the 1880s, elaborations of it appeared in print. The most enduring is the pairing of Watts’ poem and Mason’s tune with a simple camp meeting song, At the Cross, to be a refrain. It has the phrases, At the cross, where I first saw the light . . . It was there by faith I received my sight. The centerpiece of Sonata Hymnica No. 5 is the tune TOPLADY, the usual tune for singing Rock of Ages. This tune was composed in 1830 by Thomas Hastings (1784-1872), an associate of Lowell Mason in New York. He wrote hymns and hymn tunes, published hymnals, and worked tirelessly to elevate choral singing in churches. Hastings indicated that he intended his tune for singing Rock of Ages by naming it after the author of the hymn-poem, the English pastor Augustus Toplady (1740-1778). The Rev. A. B. Grosart wrote in a memorial that Toplady was no poet or inspired singer, but an impulsive, rash-spoken, reckless preacher who could nonetheless picture vanishing gleams of imaginative light in his hymnic verses. A better impression was gained by poet A. C. Benson (1862-1925), who, upon hearing Rock of Ages sung at William Gladstone’s funeral at Westminster Abbey in 1898 --- a rare State funeral attended by several members of the British Royal family --- wrote, To have written such words which should come home to people in moments of high, deep, and passionate emotion  . . . there can hardly be anything worth doing better than that. This high compliment came from the poet who, a few years later, would write the words of Elgar’s Coronation Ode for King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. A camp meeting song, a rash-spoken English pastor, two American music educators, a State funeral at Westminster Abbey --- such is the wide world of influence and inspiration of these three Scenes of Calvary.

Flute,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549375 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Sacred,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #3492231. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549375). Duration: 4:55, Score: 6 pages, Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 2 pages. A very famous aria (Ombra mai fu) from XerxesSuitable for any venue requiring meditative music. Excellent choice for a recital encore. Xerxes Xerxes is, in fact, an opera seria in three acts by Handel. Moreover, Handel conducted the premiere performance in London in 1738. Handel casts the opera in Persia in 470 BC. The part of Xerxes was indeed originally sung by a soprano castrato. Nowadays, the part is generally sung by a mezzo-soprano or conversely a counter-tenor. In the first place, Xerxes sings an opening aria, Ombra mai fu to a plane tree. Handel sets this aria to one of his most truly famous melodies. Although many refer to it traditionally as Handel’s Largo, Handel has, on the contrary, clearly marked Larghetto in the score. Handel Background George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759) was born in Germany but eventually became a British citizen. Nonetheless, he was a famous Baroque composer. In fact, he became famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems, and organ concertos. Handel studied music and, by and large, worked as a composer in Germany and Italy before moving to London. On the whole, Handel was very familiar with the contemporary music of Italy and Germany. Career in England It is essential to realize that Italian opera was all the rage in England at the time. Moreover, Handel was really good at writing them. Therefore, he started not one but three opera companies in England. Alexander's Feast was a huge success in 1736, but Handel began composing English choral works. After success with the Messiah in 1742) he certainly never again wrote an Italian opera. Consequently, he died in 1759, a treasured genius. Accordingly, the English government gave him full state honors at his funeral. Hence, he is buried in Westminster Abbey in London. Legacy Music historians agree that Handel was in general one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era.  To demonstrate, his works such as the Messiah, Water Music, and Music for the Royal Fireworks remain consistently popular up to the present time. He especially composed the coronation anthem, Zadok the Priest for the coronation of George II. Nevertheless, it has specifically been performed at every succeeding British coronation since. His oratorio Solomon has by all means also continued to be prevalent. As a matter of fact, Sinfonia from act 3 was featured in the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. Handel was particularly prolific. To enumerate, he wrote over forty operas.  Since the late 1960s, we have expressly experienced a revival of baroque music. Similarly, we have especially seen a pique of interest in historically informed musical performances. Since his death in 1779, interest in Handel's music has all in all, expanded.

Small Ensemble Horn,Piano,Violin - Digital Download SKU: A0.506269 Composed by Ho Fong Leong. Classical,Contemporary,New Age. Score and parts. 18 pages. Published by Marco leong (A0.506269). Dedicated to Simon, Leo and Wellington School as a parting gift. Scored for Violin, Horn and Piano. Premiered in St George's Bristol, September 2019. “And then we see†is dedicated to the wonderful people I have met throughout my journey in Wellington School, especially to two of my very good friends – Simon, a euphonist; and Leo, a ‘cellist. Originally planned to be written for Piano, ‘Cello and Euphonium, and to be finished and performed in our last school concert as a goodbye gift, I had however not managed to complete the work before graduation. I have therefore taken this opportunity to express my emotions and sentiments from the time with this newly written piece. One can therefore very easily sense the nostalgia pouring right from the very beginning of the music, as I reminisce our years together. It is based loosely on a ternary structure (ABA) – the A section depicts the moment of farewell. One can hear the violin plays a very simple, bell-like melody, representing the bell-strikes which signify that it is the end of a long journey – time to say goodbye. The B section, based on the very same melody, transforms itself into a 6/8 dance. This dance depicts the pang and melancholia as we bid farewell, leading to a passionate climax. The A section then returns with the melody in its original form, announced by the horn. The coda concludes the piece, trying to move away from the tonic, representing the start of a new chapter in our journey and our optimistic feelings about it. Throughout the piece there are also quotes from the famous Westminster chimes, and variants of it, enforcing the bell imagery.

Organ and optional trumpet - Moderately Easy - Digital Download SKU: MQ.10-685-2E Composed by Jerry Westenkuehler. Instrument parts. 9 pages. MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music #10-685-2E. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music (MQ.10-685-2E). Three Festive Trumpet Tunes is a collection that may be used effectively in worship or recital. The three pieces are playable on organ alone or with trumpet and organ. The AMSTERDAM tune uses a recurring ritornello theme that is based on the opening melody of the hymn tune. The Trumpet Tune in D Major is an original composition and is written in a baroque rondo style. Following a joyous main theme, the center section has a whimsical dialogue between the organ and the trumpet. The WESTMINSTER ABBEY piece states the tune the first time in the organ and in the second statement the trumpet plays a more embellished version of the tune. Reproducible trumpet parts for both B-flat and C trumpets are included in the book.
