Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.976721 Composed by 12th Century Plainchant. Arranged by Robert Myers. Christian,Christmas,Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 76 pages. WheatMyer Music #4798079. Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.976721). DIVINUM MYSTERIUM is a chant tune dating to the 12th century which is associated with the hymn, Of the Father's Love Begotten, based on the Latin hymn, Corde natus ex parentis, written by Prudentius in the late 4th / early 5th century. This is thus one of the very oldest texts and tunes still sung in our churches today. The shape and flow of this arrangement, which includes quotations from CANTIQUE de NOEL (O Holy Night) – Adolphe Adam (1844), was strongly influenced by what one writer described as the strong wave shapes of the tune. I’ve attempted to make these waves a significant feature of the piece, featured in both the constant crescendo/decrescendos and the interweaving of the two tunes. And, just as ocean waves don’t arrive in steady rhythms, these musical waves are variable – sometimes closely spaced, sometimes not, and sometimes overlapping. The unique character of each of the three major sections is implied in their headings: (1) with mystery and wonder, (2) Joyfully – a child is born, and (3) contemplative – God is with us. The opening section portrays the mystery of the trinity (the hymn text was written as an apology for the Nicene Creed) mixed with the wonder of the Creator God lying in a manger. Since the tune is derived from medieval chant, I wanted this section to reflect the loose metrical nature of that genre, so the melodic phrasing should predominate over any sense of meter up to letter C. The initial tonal and metrical ambiguity and the fractured melodic lines gradually meld into conventional tonality and clear statements of the two main themes. Don’t let the poco rit. just before C be too poco. Build a definite sense of tension in anticipation of the Presto section. The Presto section presents the first complete statement of the main theme. I felt a strong, rhythmic treatment should follow the ambiguity of the opening to reflect the joy of the Messiah’s incarnation realized. However, the gravity of the text demands avoidance of frivolity and banality. Thus, I used a combination of the long, flowing lines with a syncopated pulse and echoing rhythms to produce what I hope is a fresh but still reverent treatment of this ancient hymn – one that produces a kaleidoscope of tonal color. Arriving at the third section at letter F, the asymmetrical pulse gradually shifts into a straight 3 pattern. The slower tempo and return of the secondary theme call us to reflect on the import of God now with us. The marking of Let off the gas and coast to the end is a word picture of how the tempo should draw to a close, as would an expert helmsman allow the ship’s momentum to stop just as it taps the dock. One parting moment is provided to savor the woodwinds closing phrase from CANTIQUE de NOEL. Robert Myers S.D.G. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1030862 Composed by Yoav Landau. Arranged by Ethan Gammage. Pop. 3 pages. Ethan Gammage #21461. Published by Ethan Gammage (A0.1030862). When I first began writing It’s Been so Long last year, I never knew how a song of this nature could inspire me to write. The lyrics were not what pushed me to arrange this; it was all of the feelings and rhythms that were occurring in the background. The song is originally a sad song about a mother and her son, but as I listened to the song, the words didn't release my emotions, it was the story being told in the background. My favorite part is what I gave the 2nd Alto Sax. Even though this was the last part I wrote, it is overall the most important in giving the audience the full story. It starts off insignificant only supporting the baseline and completing chords, but then it gains its own voice and becomes more independent as we reach the end.

Bass Voice - Digital Download SKU: A0.1329201 By Shane McDonald. By Shane McDonald. Arranged by Shane McDonald. Instructional. Educational Method. 32 pages. Electrafuzz #917135. Published by Electrafuzz (A0.1329201). THE ONE SCALE THAT COVERS IT ALL - CALLING ALL BASS PLAYERS SWIMMING IN A POOL OF SCALESWhat if I told you that there is an 8 note scale that covers most of the common chord types you will come across including Major, Minor, Dominant 7, Half Diminished and beyond - for you to incorporate into your grooves, fills and improvising. This scale idea with chromatics is designed for the bass guitar neck to fit comfortably and fluently, and to move into any position up and down the neck with ease, and without the need for crazy stretching and fingering. What I have here is an 8 note minor scale that you can incorporate into your playing. It has chromaticism and musicality and will add interest to your playing beyond just diatonic scales, pentatonics and blues scales. I started looking into this scale so as to create more interesting ideas for soloing over funk, R&B or pop tunes - but I also found I could use it in jazz too.

Harpsichord,Instrumental Solo,Treble Recorder - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1286307 Composed by Colin Eatock. 21st Century,Baroque,Chamber,Classical. Individual part. 26 pages. Colin Eatock Music #877379. Published by Colin Eatock Music (A0.1286307). Tenor Recorder; Harpsichord; ca. 8 min.The composer writes: Iâ??m often attracted to historical models for my compositions. And this miniature, two-movement sonata (similar to contrasting movements in a Handel sonata) is full of references to baroque- and gallant-era styles. When I began to compose it, I wasnâ??t quite sure what solo instrument would be best suited to what I was creating: The solo part could, of course, be played on a variety of instruments. But I am very pleased with my final choice of tenor recorder.

Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.982072 Composed by James Gardner. Contemporary. Score. 12 pages. James Gardner #6136181. Published by James Gardner (A0.982072). In 1988 my wife and I were sent by our church to take part in the World Conference on Liturgical Music in Rome at the Vatican.  It was so exciting for us to go on our first trip to the Eternal City!!  We took a taxi to the Vatican and it let us off right within walking distance of St. Peter's Basilica!  It was so overwhelming, exciting, and beautiful all at once; it was almost too much to take in!  After that wonderful week when I returned I set down and began to improvise at the piano to see what I might be able to express about the experience.  What came to me almost immediately was the memory of the sound of chant in that great space!  I came up with a very contemporary combination of old and new in a jazz framework.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.856142 Composed by Joe McCarthy, James Monaco. Arranged by Liz Garnett. A Cappella. Octavo. 4 pages. Liz Garnett #3023075. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856142). Written just before the First World War, this flirtatious song anticipates that world where women were finding a new independence and power, and trying to work out what to do with it. On the one hand, the singer doesn’t want to be unfeminine by making the first move, on the other, she’s going to make a bid for what she wants. Go girl, is what I say. This arrangement is suitable for performance in a barbershop contest, and the Southern Comfort Barber Gals won a bronze medal in the Holland Harmony 2009 chorus contest with this it. It is notated in the traditional clefs for women's barbershop: treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written)Ranges:Tenor: F4 - E5Lead: A flat 3 - C#5Bari: B flat 3 - B4Bass: E flat 3 - F#4www.HelpingYouHarmonise.com

Knock Yourself Out II. Flutterby III. Morph (with apologies to J. B.) Funny Like a Monkey is one of the many phrases coined by my then 16 year-old daughter in order to address the actions and well-intended attempts at humor by both her younger brother and her hopelessly antiquated father. What I love about these phrases – of which Funny Like a Monkey is but one of many – is their use of nonsequitur elevated to high verbal art. They are at once biting and humorous, and are filled with the sort of over-the-top verbal bravado that only a teenager, as the self-acknowledged epitome of hip, can get away with. Though Funny Like a Monkey is scored as a traditional piano quartet, it is in reality composed for string trio PLUS piano. Along with being part of the larger ensemble, the piano has a featured role in the piece: it is narrator, commentator, curmudgeon, critic, and emcee, as it introduces and comments upon the relative merits of the musical materials that comprise the work. The first movement is entitled Knock Yourself Out. The movement’s energy and exuberance, as well as its mercurial-shift-on-a-dime nature is a rather personal reference to the dedicatee. The second movement is entitled Flutterby. A spoonerism created (or at least favored) by my daughter, the reference is to a sort of macro- butterfly, a mega-mariposa, if you will, one of extraordinary beauty and delicacy that floats and drifts and shimmers in some imagined place. The third movement, Morph, With Apologies to J.B. refers to the rather obvious fact that the music keeps morphing in and out of the finale of Johannes Brahms’ (J.B.’s) Piano Quartet in G Minor, Op. 25. I’m crazy about Brahms’ piano quartets, and I have surrendered to the urge to mess with his pitch collections and thematic motives. The movement, with its musical puns, metamorphoses, and attempts at humor, is a perfect example of what might be referred to as funny like a monkey. Funny . . . is dedicated, with love, to Rachel Amy Greenberg on the occasion of her 16th birthday.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.996127 Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by Erik Cole. Romantic Period. 22 pages. Erik Cole #4793079. Published by Erik Cole (A0.996127). This is a transcription of the complete Pictures at an Exhibition for double reed choir. It is all in the original keys and based on the well-known Ravel orchestration, which is quite difficult. As a result, this arrangement is even more challenging. It is designed with at least 2 players per part in mind, and all of the oboe and bassoon parts are divisi throughout. The attached MP3 recordings are multi-track recordings of me playing all the parts. This was, by far, the most daunting recording I have put together for any of my arrangements, and I apologize for any minor imperfections in timing or pitch. In many places, this really stretched the limits of what I am capable of on bassoon. This is easily the most technically challenging of the movements, though I didn’t wind up having to add much more in difficulty over what Ravel already wrote in his orchestration.

Concert Band - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024252 Composed by Sir Lunch. 20th Century,Instructional. Score and parts. 70 pages. Sir Lunch #2917877. Published by Sir Lunch (A0.1024252). Spring Awakening is a new work for Concert Band that will challenge intermediate players with breath control, particularly the lower brass. My approach to titles is to listen to the piece once it is completed, and to simply meditate on what I hear, trying not to listen as an arranger or composer, but just as though I were an audience member at a concert, and then ask, what is the overall impression or feeling that it gives me. This piece seemed to speak to me of rebirth, hence the title. As with my other works for Concert Band, I have not created a bassoon part, but if you have a player, I would recommend they take the Euphonium part. As always, feedback is encouraged at sirlunch@gmail.comEnjoy!

These two areas are only part of my overall routine and warm-up. I would be happy if other bass trombonists could benefit from what I have gathered and written down over the years. At the moment this book is only a snapshot and I plan to continue writing new chapters. This method book is one part of a series of his complete method for Bass Trombone and is appropriate for advanced performers and can even be used by Tenor Trombonists wishing to increase their proficiency in the low register.

Cl.pft - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: F2.FM424 Composed by David Osbon. Clarinet and Piano. Score and part. 14 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM424. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM424). ISBN 9790570483235.In the early 1990s I composed a work for clarinet and piano entitled 'The Revenge of Marsyas' which was a very political work inspired by the ancient Greek legend of Apollo, Marsyas and the theft of the 'gift' of music. All of which I discovered whilst working as Music Director on 'The Trackers of Oxyrinchus' at the National Theatre Studio. What I loved about this play, by Tony Harrison, was the brilliant use of comedy for dramatic effect. And that is what I've tried to bring to these two works. In Cabaret Song we have the rather comic antics of Marsyas and his fellow Satyrs then, in Marsyas Dances, the main protagonist - represented by the clarinet - performs a dance that celebrates the liberation of music from the Gods, so that it can be shared amongst the rest of society. It didn't end well for Marsyas, but at least the rest of us get to keep the music!
