String Quartet String Quartet,Viola - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1092492 Composed by Francesco Durante. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Instructional,Sacred. Score and parts. 7 pages. Regis Bookshar #696583. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1092492). Kyrie - by Francesco Durante; Viola Quartet – Intermediate – Digital Download. “Kyrieâ€, originally written for a four-part vocal ensemble by Francesco Durante, has now been transcribed, edited and arranged by Regis Bookshar, for a Viola Quartet. It would be a welcomed addition to any music library. This short composition, which lasts less than two minutes, will provide students with the opportunity to continue to develop good intonation because many of the phrases cadence on a unison note. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services. It is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (7 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble’s extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quartet version of this composition for many church services, especially funerals, when we were asked to supply something more somber and introspective rather than the louder, more festive music which many people come to expect from a Trumpet Ensemble. Francesco Durante was an Italian composer who was born on March 31, 1684 at Frattamaggiore, in the Kingdom of Naples. At an early age he entered the Conservatorio dei poveri di Gesu Cristo, in Naples, where he received lessons from Gaetano Greco. Later he became a pupil of Alessandro Scarlatti at the Conservatorio di Sant’Onofrio. He is said to have succeeded Scarlatti in 1725 at Sant’Onofrio and to have remained there until 1742, when he succeeded Nicola Porpora as head of the Conservatorio di Santa Maria de Loreto, also in Naples. He held this post for thirteen years, until his death on September 30, 1755. His fame as a teacher was considerable, and, unlike his Neapolitan contemporaries, who attracted international notice with their operas, Francesco Durante achieved recognition through his church music, along with some vocal chamber and instrumental works. His concern was not quantity. A complete collection of Durante’s works, consisting almost exclusively of sacred music, was presented by Gaspare Selveggi, a Neapolitan art collector and music theorist, to the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. The imperial library of Vienna also preserves a valuable collection of Durante’s manuscripts. The fact that Durante never composed for the stage brought him an exaggerated reputation as a composer of sacred music. He was considered one of the best church composers of his style and period. In his masses, requiems, litanies and Lamentations, he could provide strong expressive moments, as he does in this “Kyrieâ€. In addition to this arrangement for a Viola Quartet, Regis Bookshar has also made other arrangements of this selection. There are Quartets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I’m certain that this beautiful arrangement of Francesco Durante’s “Kyrie†will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Woodwind Ensemble Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.736270 Composed by Mitch Leigh. Arranged by Phyllis Avidan Louke. Film/TV,Pop. 12 pages. Louke Publishing #3489035. Published by Louke Publishing (A0.736270). 2018 Chamber Music Contest EntryThe Impossible Dream from Man of La ManchaProgram Notes Low Flute Ensemble The Impossible Dream (The Quest) is the most popular song from the 1965 Broadway musical Man of La Mancha and is also featured in the 1972 film of the same name.  The song was composed by Mitch Leigh, with lyrics written by Joe Darion.  It was awarded the Contemporary Classics Award from the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. This arrangement for Low Flute Ensemble can be performed with as few as 5 players or a full flute choir with multiple players on a part.  It is scored for 3 alto flutes, 2 bass flutes, and optional contrabass flute.  I have always found the lyrics of The Impossible Dream extremely moving: To dream the impossible dream, To fight the unbeatable foe, To bear with unbearable sorrow, To run where the brave dare not go. To right the unrightable wrong, To love pure and chaste from afar, To try when your arms are too weary, To reach the unreachable star. This is my quest, To follow that star No matter how hopeless, No matter how far. To fight for the right Without question or pause, To be willing to march Into hell for a heavenly cause. And I know if I'll only be true To this glorious quest That my heart will be peaceful and calm When I'm laid to my rest. And the world will be better for this, That one man scorned and covered with scars Still strove with his last ounce of courage. To fight the unbeatable foe. To reach the unreachable star. Choral Choir (SA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.873031 Composed by Sally Whitwell. Contemporary,Standards. Octavo. 7 pages. Sally Whitwell #3869011. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.873031). Composer’s Note - Treasure ChestI was commissioned by the Canberra International Music Festival in 2016 to write a work for children’s chorus. The concert was a Mothers’ Day event, sponsored by a couple of local boutique chocolatiers, so the works on the program were all chocolate and coffee themed, including J S Bach’s Coffee Cantata and a bunch of songs from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The festival’s Artistic Director Roland Peelman asked me if I could write a new piece on this theme. So I got thinking about chocolate and about Mothers’ Day and about how when you’re a little kid and have no earnings, you still give your mum a present for her special day (that is, your dad pays for it and you sign the card!). And if it’s chocolate, you might give her your favourite chocolate instead of hers, and all you are really waiting for is for her to offer you one. When I was a child, I always used to think of chocolate boxes as treasure chests, full of shining precious things only consumed on very special occasions. Because they were such a rarity, you really had to savour each sweet taste and gooey texture. I â€™m sure from this song, you’ll be able to tell that I am a big sweet tooth!-- Sally Whitwell

Here’s an arrangement of the favorite Christmas tune “Silent Night†that is quick to learn, easy to ring, and yet sounds impressive. It works well as a stand-alone piece or as a sing-along.And if your ensemble is suddenly short a ringer (or if the conductor is needed to ring too), this arrangement includes flexible assignments to make your holidays remain merry. It is also ideal for holiday moments when your handbell choir is asked to perform with little preparation, and suddenly there are too few ringers (or extra ringers home for the holidays).Complete assignments are enclosed for 10-11 ringers using 4-5 octaves octaves of handbells, and the piece is Level 2 when played with the 11 ringers.Performance time:• 1 minute 50 seconds.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533672 Composed by Carson Cooman. Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 54 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3037097. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533672). Symphony No. 3, “Ave Maris Stella†(2005) was written for the Duquesne ContemporaryEnsemble and is dedicated to composer David Stock. Throughout his career, Stock has beena tireless and generous advocate on behalf of new music and living composers. This work isdedicated to him in tribute – as both an important American composer and a significantcontributor to America’s contemporary musical life. The work’s basic source material is the plainchant Ave maris stella (“Hail, star of the seaâ€) –appropriate because of Duquesne’s standing and history as a Catholic university. When thecomposition of this work first began, the original plan was for a celebratory and vibrant piece. As the planning progressed, however, personal circumstances intervened and began to changethe work’s tone – becoming substantially bleaker and more obsessive. The title of the first movement, Pentimento, is defined as “an underlying image in a painting,as an earlier painting, that shows through when the top layer of paint has become transparentwith age.†The melodic and harmonic material for the movement is entirely drawn from theplainchant source, although it is completely transformed and covered up – as in a pentimento. At various points, one can begin to hear the original plainchant “peek out†in subtle ways. The opening section of the movement obsesses again and again on what sounds like a“beginning†– as though it is trying to begin again and again. After a brief bassoon cadenza, afast and driving section starts, marked “sinister.†After driving through a series oftransformations on the plainchant material, a bridge passage leads to further attempts at the“beginning†again. Finally, these attempts are given up, and the plainchant material (theunderlying layer) begins to show through quietly – in preparation for the next movement. In the second movement, Interrupted Motet, the plainchant theme is used in a morestraightforward fashion. After the opening declamatory statements, the following sectionsmove between more free developmental techniques, based on the first movement’stransformations, and “motet†sections – using cantus firmus methods and textures fromRenaissance music. The tone and palate is, however, much darker and more obsessive. There is a brooding ponderousness to these contrapuntal developments. The final motetsection ends in a rageful shout, the plainchant material is presented again in full force, and thepent-up energy dissipates to the close.FluteOboeClarinet in BbBass Clarinet in BbBassoonHorn in F/BbTrumpet in CTrombonePercussion (1 player):tubular bells, vibraphone(Percussionist needs one rosined bow for vibraphone.)PianoViolin IViolin IIViolaCelloContrabass(single strings)This is the score only.  The complete parts and each seperate part are also available as seperate items.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1251667 Composed by St. Alfonso Maria de' Liguori (traditional Neapolitan tune). Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. Christmas,Classical,Renaissance,Sacred,Traditional. Octavo. 14 pages. Scott S. Stewart #845928. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.1251667). Giuseppe Verdi was quoted to say: There is no Christmas without ‘Tu scendi dalle stelle’. This ‘canto di Natale’ is truly a ‘native’ seasonal pastoral, and was probably a popular Neaploitan folk tune of his time, when St. Alfonso Maria de’ Liguori composed his ‘Tu scendi dalle stelle’ in 1732.  This tune evolved when Pope Pius IX gave it its current Italian text.  This traditional Christmas tune is arranged for 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment.  It uses the original Italian text of Pope Piius IX.  Performance time: 5:00+-.

Anita E Kohli #3433585. Published by Anita E Kohli (A0.1031503). ‘An Indian Sea-side’ is a Picture Piece, a piece with a story or an image. It is written for young late elementary level piano students, to be taught with a combination of rote and reading. Young students love using the sustain pedal and listen more carefully when they hear the resonance. Those who don’t have a pedal extension could stand and play this piece. The The first 3 sections of the piece are piano solos - The tide recedes, Crabs run around on the sand, A bird tries to catch a crab. The last is The walk of the elephants, a piano duet. More on this in 'About An Indian Sea-Side'.I hope this Picture Piece encourages young piano students to visualise when they play - seeing images, a movie or even telling a story of what’s happening. Students can improvise if their story needs more music, using notes from a 5 finger scale or playing a tune with any 2 white keys. Or using the black keys. It’s their imaginary story, so anything is possible!Anitaelise

Broadway,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Musical/Show. Score. 5 pages. Sherman Theatrical Entertainment Ltd. #117898. Published by Sherman Theatrical Entertainment Ltd. (A0.529592). That's Something! is front he musical Bumblescratch and is a recitative sung by “Perryâ€, a young plague rat who is dealing with intense, unfamiliar and deeply contradictory emotions. Having recently fallen in love with “Thamesa†(a human girl), Perry becomes enraged when “Melbourne†attempts to stop the relationship. Melbourne explains that a human girl can only mean trouble for a rat but Perry doesn’t want to hear any of it. As the song progresses however, Perry acknowledges that Melbourne is only looking out for his best interest. Finally though, Perry’s feelings for Thamesa win out. Ultimately Perry resolves to continue the relationship. This is an excellent audition song for a young performer as it allows the singer to express three radically different emotional states, all in one (fairly brief) piece. Vocal arrangements are available for both young male and female voices. When printing, please scale to fit for standard US Letter and A4 size.
