Brass Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024971 Composed by Simon M. Sperl. Contemporary. Score and parts. 28 pages. Sperl Publishing #3912935. Published by Sperl Publishing (A0.1024971). This piece, Fables, Fiction and Folklore, is built on a mode and musical figure that can be transposed by a tritone while maintaining every note in the scale.  In other words, whether it’s played in G or C#, the exact same notes are used.  This mirroring of the musical figure is meant to symbolize how we see ourselves.  We look in the mirror and see something that may look like us but is, in fact, as far away from reality as possible. We look past all the good and beautiful things in ourselves and our worlds while only seeing our faults and blemishes. On the other hand, when we look at others, we see idealized versions.  We think about them as if they are fictionalized characters in a story.  Let’s focus on the positive when we look at ourselves and our lives and forgive the imperfections.  We’re the heroes of our personal folktale.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.902510 By Stevie Wonder. By Stevie Wonder. Arranged by Steve Burks. Pop,Soul. Score. 7 pages. Steven L. Burks #6249377. Published by Steven L. Burks (A0.902510). This inspirational R&B piece is appropriate for tenors who are comfortable with periodic chest voice above F4, or who are able to mix registers effectively when producing the pitches F#4 and G#4. Its melodic range is from E3 to G#4. You Will Know is a good programming choice when themes of inspiration, encouragement, and spirituality are fitting. Its duration is approximately 3:20, a slight abbreviation of the original recording as ad libs have been omitted. The lyrical content is appropriate for non-adult singers; though post-pubescent singers are more likely to have success performing it due to periodic work above the break. Pedagogically, this piece affords singers an opportunity to work on breath support (due to its periodic long tones), vibrato, and grace notes (which by African American performance practice, occur frequently enough that notating them would have been impractical). In general, ornamentation is a central feature of African American singing, and the best way to absorb this style is to listen to great examples. I am a member of ASCAP. You may email me at steveburks@outlook.com. Thanks for listening.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.1016700 Composed by Franz Schubert. Arranged by Edward Berden. Concert,Romantic Period. Octavo. 29 pages. Edward Berden #5774111. Published by Edward Berden (A0.1016700). Schubert wrote Winterreise in 1827, about a year before his death. The text are poems by Wilhelm Müller who died in the year that Schubert wrote Winterreise.Schubert found the first twelve poems under the title Wanderlieder von Wilhelm Müller. Die Winterreise. In 12 Liedern in an almanack (Urania. Taschenbuch auf das Jahr 1823) published in Leipzig in 1823. It was after he set these, in February 1827, that he discovered the full series of poems in Müller's book of 1824, Poems from the posthumous papers of a travelling horn-player, dedicated to the composer Carl Maria von Weber, as a pledge of his friendship and admiration. Weber died in 1826. On 4 March 1827, Schubert invited a group of friends to his lodgings intending to sing the first group of songs, but he was out when they arrived, and the event was postponed until later in the year, when the full performance was given. This arrangement is made for SATB and can be sung with the original accompaniment by Schubert but there is also a set of parts for Wind-instruments. Violin Duet Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799489 Composed by Drake Mabry. Contemporary. 57 pages. Drake Mabry #3241901. Published by Drake Mabry (A0.799489). Négysey's Gallery (2001) for two violins is based on computer paintings created by the violin virtuoso János Négysey. During a return visit to my Alma Mater, the University of California, San Diego I heard the sounds of a far-off violin and followed them, finding myself in front of the door of János Négysey, the violin professor at the university. We hadn't seen each other in over 20 years. While catching up on our lives since my graduation, János took out several stunning computer paintings he had recently completed. I immediately suggested that I do a new work for two violins based on his art. I asked to see more and soon when I left his office I had a collection of paintings from which to choose. A year later the piece was completed and he programmed it for a recital at the University. They were premiered on April 10, 2001 by János and Päivikki Nykter, also a virtuoso violinist. The images were projected on several screens across the width of the stage. Afterwards, János and I would meet on Skype to keep up to date and there was always a healthy amount of laughter. When he passed away suddenly in 2013 I was shocked and saddened. I still miss his insights, sense of humor and encyclopedic knowledge. The duration is approximately 33 minutes and there are 12 color paintings included with the score. Many thanks to Päivikki for giving me permission to include the paintings.Négyesy's Gallery was premiered by János Négyesy and Päivikki Nykter at the University of California, San Diego on April 10, 2001

Flute - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1463870 Composed by Leonard E. Lopatin. Chamber,Classical,Instructional. Educational Exercises. 84 pages. Leonard E. Lopatin #1042644. Published by Leonard E. Lopatin (A0.1463870). At one time, Claude Debussy’s approach to tonality and color was novel, even radical.  Today, his Prélude à l’Après-Midi d’un Faune, is one of the most beloved works in the repertoire, certainly among flutists.  That being the case, we’re likely to have a certain color and texture in mind when we play the flute part.  So, what can we do to make our practice of this familiar piece more interesting?  How about trying to achieve those desired qualities while playing it in different keys or in the extreme high and extreme low registers? You’re not likely to produce the usual languid, transparent sonority if you start the famous opening solo on high F sharp, but there is much to be learned by trying to do just that.  Then, when you return to the original tonality, you may find that you have greater command of the passage’s tone color and quality than you’ve ever had before!

Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.540710). The composer writes : This work was premièred on April 27, 2003 at the Eglise Saint-Roch in Paris with the prestigious Orchestre de la Musique de L’Armée de L’Air, under the direction of my friend and colleague, Claude Picheraureau. I have always been fascinated by the beauty of the Cosmos, which has inspired many of my works. Feelings of infinite movement can be expressed musically and it seemed to me that one of the ways to do this was to end this work on a repeated phrase played in a long perdendosi, to give the impression that one is hearing the echoes of the finished phrase as the instruments stop playing. I had just started to write this work when I received a note for the Paris Observatory which gave me the news that the astronomical community had decided to name a newly discovered asteroid for Jean-Pierre Luminet. When I wrote to Jean-Pierre to congratulate him on this honour, reminding him with the Petit Prince that not everyone has their own star, I asked him if he would accept that I name this work for concert band with the full name of his asteroid: 5523 Luminet 1991 PH8. Jean-Pierre accepted my proposition by return letter : ..., not only do I not have any objection, but I would be very honoured. To be in the celestial spheres in the form of a rock and also in the form of music, what more could one ask for? The work is scored for : Piccolo 2 Flûtes/2 Flutes 2 Hautbois/2 Oboes Cor Anglais/English Horn 2 Bassons/2 Bassoons Contrebasson/Contrabassoon Petite Clarinette en Mib/Eb Clarinet 1ers Clarinettes en Sib/1st Bb Clarinets : 2mes Clarinettes en Sib/2nd Bb Clarinets Clarinette Basse/Bass Clarinet 1er Saxophone Alto en Mib/1st Eb Alto Saxophone 2me Saxophone Alto en Mib/2nd Eb Alto Saxophone Saxophone Ténor en Sib/Bb Tenor Saxophone Saxophone Baryton en Mib/Eb Baritone Saxophone 4 Cors en fa/4 F Horns 2 trompettes en Sib/2 Bb Trumpets 2 cornets en Sib/2 Bb Cornets 2 Trombones Ténors/2 Tenor Trombones Trombone Basse/Bass Trombone Euphonium Tuba en Ut/Tuba in C Contrebasse à cordes/String Bass Harpe/Harp Timbales/Tympani Percussion I : Marimba Cloches en Tube/Tubular Bells &wRt Grosse Caisse/Bass Drum = G.C Tambour/Field Drum = Tamb. Tenor voice solo, SATB choir unaccompanied - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8322-E Composed by David Conte. Advanced/Collegiate. Secular, 21st Century, Americana, Children, Creation/Nature, Hope/Assurance. Instrument part. 15 pages. Duration 5 minutes, 42 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8322-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8322-E). UPC: 600313483226. English. The three a cappella choral pieces that comprise “A Whitman Triptych†were composed between 2012 and 2014. O Setting Sun was commissioned by the Madison Chamber Choir, Madison, Wisconsin, Anthony Cao, conductor, and was premiered on April 20th, 2012. “What is the Grass†was composed for Cappella SF, Ragnar Bohlin, conductor, and is being premiered on tonight’s concert. Facing West was commissioned in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge by the International Orange Chorale, Zane Fiala, conductor, and was premiered on May 27th, 2012. I first set Whitman to music in 1986,when I adapted part of “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed†as the basis for my composition “Invocation and Dance.†I went on to set “Good-Bye, My Fancy†for Male Chorus and Soprano Saxophone in 1992, and “Song of the Open Road†for Mixed Chorus and Piano in 2004. Like so many composers, I have found the visionary quality of Whitman’s verse inspiring; the vigor and intensity of the poetry seem naturally to draw out music. “What is the Grass?†is also an adaptation of a much longer poem, one of Whitman’s deepest, and most mysterious. The poem begins as a child-like meditation on grass; as hope, as an embodiment of new life and new growth in the plant world. Then suddenly there is a somber turn with the line “And now it seems to me the beautiful uncut hair of graves.†Here Whitman enters an extended mediation on how grass connects life and death, informed by his experiences in the Civil War. Hope returns with the line: “They are alive and well somewhere,†leading to the mysterious final line: “And to die is different from what anyone supposed, and luckier…†Here Whitman affirms that death can be an initiation into a broader participation of existence. In the words of poet Ivan M. Granger, Whitman offers a “Zen-like riddle that doesn’t offer an answer so much as a pathway of questioning.†My musical setting follows Whitman’s exploration, first taking a child’s point of view, expressed with lilting melodies set in a lively compound meter. The entry of the tenor soloist indicates a change of mood to the serious. The first mood returns, leading to a climax on the words “And led forward life…â€, set in 9-part harmony. The mood turns reverent, as the tenor soloist intones: “All goes onward and outward; nothing collapses.†The piece ends with a tone of gentle, slightly ironic questioning. -David ConteDuration: 5:42

Jmsgu3 #3531323. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549721). Duration: ca. 7:00, Score: 18 pages, violin: 3 pages, cello: 3 pages, piano: 7 pages. An epic choice for a recital or funeral.Fauré Background: In the first place, Gabriel Fauré 1845 –1924) was a famous French composer, musician, and educator. Furthermore, his musical ideas influenced numerous 20th-century composers. Therefore, historians regard him as one of the leading French composers of his time. Famous Works: Among his most famous compositions, by and large, are the Pavane, Elegie (op. 24), Requiem, Sicilienne, Nocturnes for piano and the songs Après un rêve and Clair de lune. Inasmuch as his early works are well-known and relatively easy to perform, Faure’s music seems to have become gradually more difficult during his later life. In other words, his later works are somewhat esoteric and complex. Early Home Life: Fauré was in fact born into a well-cultivated family. His aptitude for music became particularly clear early on - when he was still a boy. Under these circumstances, his parents sent him to a music institution in Paris. Consequently, the training he received there prepared him for a career as a church organist and choirmaster. Middle Life: It is important to realize that Fauré studied music composition with the French musical mastermind Camille Saint-Saëns, who became his lifelong friend. Fauré eventually graduated from college and earned a living as an organist and educator. During this period, he had, on the whole, little time to compose. He consequently became more successful in his middle age, becoming organist of the Église de la Madeleine and director of the Paris Conservatoire. However, he still needed time on balance for composing. Therefore, given these points, he withdrew to the countryside during the summer to focus on composing. Later Life: Fauré was, in the final analysis, recognized in France as the foremost French composer of his time. The French government held a national musical tribute particularly for him in Paris. The French President notably headed the ceremony. Elsewhere, on the contrary, Fauré's music was slow to become accepted, except of course, in England. Legacy: Historians often describe Fauré's music in general as a transition between the end of Romanticism and the beginning of modernism. As an illustration, when Fauré was born, Chopin was still composing. However, by the time of Fauré's death, jazz and atonal music, in particular, had come to fruition. Fauré, by all means, suffered from increasing deafness in his later years. Some musicologists believe this to be indeed the cause of the esoteric nature of Faure’s final works.
