History: The Father Sent the Son is the title song of a cantata I composed ten or so years ago for a church choir that could barely muster a men's section. They loved to sing. They rehearsed every Sunday afternoon between services and sang every Sunday morning for worship and often in the evenings. They loved the entire cantata and sang it with enthusiasm. Since that time other choirs have song the cantata, and I have added and subtracted and rewritten through the years. I wanted to get the entire cantata as close to perfection as possible before I published it, but I have decided to publish the portions I am most happy with piecemeal for the time being. When all portions are where I thing they should be, I will publish the entire cantata as one work. Lord willing, of course.  Please let me know if you enjoy the music I write. A Winter's Lament was written during our western Canada winter of 2015.  Although British Columbia boasts that it has a very favourable climate with little snow, it also tends, at times, to be very grey and wet during the winter months.  With that in mind, I wrote this fiddles ballad which records, in the opening, my thoughts about the bright, warm, spring and fall months which we have just left.  The middle section however, tends to be somewhat melancholic surrounded by the greyness of our winter, but it, in turn, is followed by a recipe of what lies ahead when winter actually departs; spring with its new beginning.  This is an exceptional piece for fiddler's around the world.

But it wasn’t until 1986 with De Burgh’s success of “The Lady in Red” that the UK took notice and it reached the top charts there, too.The idea for the song came to de Burgh when he had just signed his first recording contract, and he read Chariots of the Gods? by Erich von Däniken. The book made him think “what if the star of Bethlehem was a space craft and what if there is a benevolent being or entity in the universe keeping an eye on the world and our foolish things that we do to each other?” De Burgh also drew inspiration from William Butler Yeats’ poem “The Second Coming,” and in the song he tells a story of the birth of Christ being a recurring 2000-year event heralded by an intergalactic visitor.

How well would it do without a video? I don't know, but if you have some brave souls in your group, you could put on a funny skit to go along with this piece. This piece is just meant to be entertaining and something that your audience could get a good laugh at.  Scored for flute choir - 3 C, alto, and bass flutes. To me, it's another example of how the most piercing of emotion brings out beauty of art and form. The music came out as I read through the poem. .

Published by Paul Emil Levasseur (A0.1014185). 'Journey' is a c.a. 12 minute work for String Quartet. The piece begins with an adagio melody which weaves into elegant counterpoint. The adagio opening is juxtaposed by a scherzo with a folk style melody and bouncing, changing rhythms. The two musical ideas collide and combine in the conclusion of the work! I began this piece in the beginning of my D.M.A. in composition when studying with Christos Hatzis. The material for this project has steeped in my mind for 5 years with over 100 drafts and rewrites to date. It really represents a period of struggle in my development as an artist. During this time I was trying to reconcile the struggle between my knowledge of composition and theory with my muse. The difference between putting notes together and creating art is an interesting one and this was something I had to come to terms with. After my 2nd year of study, I put this project on the shelf and carried on with other pieces. I didn't pull it out again until last Dec where there was a short pause in my workload with freelancing. I kept the material I wanted and just 'listened' to where the music wanted to go. Somehow the pieces came together and it worked to create a cohesive whole with a strong musical narrative. I'm very pleased with the result. The piece has not been performed yet but I have included a midi mockup to aide with score reading the piece.

In this arrangement, the Spanish words can be sung on the repeated or used throughout the song, and there are some extra harmony notes in the 3rd voice in the final verse to give the sound more weight.

Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia) and the hope of an ailing little boy to find out where the story comes from.  It lends emphasis to the idea that although the Narnia stories are fiction, there is indeed much to be found therein that IS real.  And as a young mathemetician surprises herself to find meaning in something not based in logic, so does the listener realize that even when we think we have found the truth of where the story begins, we are only just beginning and there is more to find.

A friend of mine, Chad Walker, came to me with the standard sheet music to this piece and asked me to make it harder, fit the hands better, and fill it out.  Much to his delight and chagrin, this is the final result.This piece would be perfect for playing in church, especially during Easter or Pentecost.  It would also be nice for the last Sunday in Epiphany when many liturgical churches say, Goodbye to the word, Hallelujah.The first verse is relatively simple, with a bassline arpeggio that fits the hand nicely.  The chord inversions in the interludes are supposed to represent the angels on Jacob's Ladder.  The second verse is a little more full with some ornamentation.  The third verse culminates in block chords in the right hand with a bassline that alternates between a heartbeat and running feet.www.thequarternotes.com
