It is based on a Chinese ancient melody called 梅花三弄.On October 20, 2023 I woke up early in the morning around 5:00 am, and I was thinking what gift could I present to my wife for her birthday near the end of October? Strangely, I got a melody in my ear, which is a song that I practiced with my Chinese violin when I was a high school boy about 66 years ago in 1957, named 梅花三弄, and  this year I am 86 alreay. Thanks to my gene which provided with me a good long memory that I could still remember most parts of the melody of that song, and fortunately, that I have not got the  Alzheimer's disease, so that it permits me to arrange that song to form a nice new song, which I call it Cherry Blossom in Three Days. Then, I used that song to make a video presenting to my wife Catherine as a special birthday card. This Baroque piece was originally written by Jean Loeillet as part of a Harpsichord Suite.  It is written in the Italian Corant style in the characteristic Fast(Allegro) 3/4 with rapid running passages of eighth notes (quavers) which alternate scalar steps with large leaps.  Traditionally the piece would have been performed very cleanly, not legato.My arrangement takes the melody and passes it between the three instrument parts.  I wrote a highly ornamented continuo for each part when not playing melody.  In true Baroque style I have created a tight interplay between the parts.  Each part also has a rather wide range of about 2 octaves.  Although in a Minor Key, this piece is very bright and uplifting.  It is very accessible and thus a concert crowd pleaser.   Great for the student recitals too to learn and show mastery of Baroque techniques of clean ensemble playing and ornamentation.  Most of all, this piece is just Pure Fun!6 pages score, 2 pages @ partRanges -Violin -  bottom space F# to high E above staffTrumpet - bottom line E# to high B above staffTrombone - low C below staff to high E above staff.

It was probably written in 1707 when he was 22 years old. It is a Chorale Cantata, a style in which both the text and music are based on a hymn. In this instance, the source was Martin Luther's hymn of the same name which became a main Easter hymn in German Lutheranism.Regis Bookshar has transcribed and arranged three selections based on this hymn tune, two from Bach's Cantata No.   4, BMV   4, and also his Chorale Prelude, BMV 625. They may be played individually or as a trilogy and each movement is more complex that the previous one. The first selection in this trilogy is the Chorale, Christ lag in Todesbanden, the final chorus from his Cantata No.   4, a straightforward four-part chorale setting of the hymn (Regis has also added a fifth part). This is followed by Bach's Chorale Prelude, BMV 625, a piece from his Orgelbuchlein (Little Organ Book), a collection of 46 Preludes for organ, written almost exclusively during the 1708-1717 period, while Bach was court organist at Weimar. For the final selection, Regis has placed the polyphonic and imitative chorus, Es war ein wunderlicher Krieg, da Tod und Leben rungen (It was a strange battle, that death and life waged), which Bach had placed in the middle of his Cantata No.   4.This arrangement is for a Clarinet Quintet, consisting of 5 Bb Clarinets. Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel)     This absolutely gorgeous song was written by Billy Joel in response, I believe, to his young daughter asking him what happens when people die and, as he didn’t believe in the afterlife, he was trying to avoid answering her.   I was asked to arrange this as a duet with a cello and a ‘smattering of (SSA) choir.’  As I was listening to recordings of this song, a second voice emerged for me, possibly someone who has passed on, calmly lulling the child to sleep whilst her father is trying to distract her from her questions. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia) and the hope of an ailing little boy to find out where the story comes from.  It lends emphasis to the idea that although the Narnia stories are fiction, there is indeed much to be found therein that IS real.  And as a young mathemetician surprises herself to find meaning in something not based in logic, so does the listener realize that even when we think we have found the truth of where the story begins, we are only just beginning and there is more to find.

The movement of the dance is fast and powerfully flowing and sprinkled with syncopations. The upbeat melodies that quickstep is danced to make it suitable for both formal and informal events. Quickstep was developed in the 1920s in New York City and was first danced by Caribbean and African dancers. Its origins are in combination of slow foxtrot combined with the Charleston, a dance which was one of the precursors to what today is called swing dancing.This dance gradually evolved into a very dynamic one with much movement on the dance floor, with many advanced patterns including hops, runs, quick steps with much momentum, and rotation. The tempo of quickstep dance is rather brisk, as it was developed to ragtime era jazz music, which is fast-paced when compared to other dance music.The quickstep is elegant like the foxtrot and should be smooth and glamorous. A Winter's Lament was written during our western Canada winter of 2015.  Although British Columbia boasts that it has a very favourable climate with little snow, it also tends, at times, to be very grey and wet during the winter months.  With that in mind, I wrote this fiddles ballad which records, in the opening, my thoughts about the bright, warm, spring and fall months which we have just left.  The middle section however, tends to be somewhat melancholic surrounded by the greyness of our winter, but it, in turn, is followed by a recipe of what lies ahead when winter actually departs; spring with its new beginning.  This is an exceptional piece for fiddler's around the world.

While reading on the nature of worship, a particular blog article ended with Adoniram Judson’s early 19th Century baptismal poem, Come Holy Spirit, Dove Divine. The flowing text called out (at least to me!) for a musical setting. Accordingly, some melodic and harmonic ideas began to percolate in my thoughts. However, before getting very far along in writing a tune, there were two surprises in store. First many others had already set the text to music before (with a multitude of tunes) going back to at least 1833. Second, despite being a Baptist for over forty years, I discovered that this hymn has been in the Baptist Hymnal since 1956 yet I have no recollection of every singing it! Well, chagrined at my ignorance, I carried on writing a new melody and harmony for this deserving text. I sought to make it friendly to congregational singers while still containing rich and sing-able harmonies and so aimed for a four-part hymn-style form. However, as I suspect my ignorance of the hymn is a common condition, a fresh and modern tune which would be at home in varied musical styles and have popular appeal was also pursued. The result is a delightful and uplifting tune, easy to sing, with an optimistic and forward momentum, commensurate with the meaning of believers’ baptism, Buried with Him in baptism; raised to walk in new life. The music is flexible in application to many church music styles: praise team and band, choir and organ, congregation and piano, or mix and match to fit your needs. May you find Come, Holy Spirit, Dove Divine, singing a much needed text, a means for your congregation to joyfully join with new believers in celebration of their baptism!

Orfeo ed Euridice is the first of Gluck's reform operas, in which he attempted to replace the abstruse plots and overly complex music of opera seria with a noble simplicity in both the music and the drama.The opera is the most popular of Gluck's works, and was one of the most influential on subsequent German operas.
