Percussion Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.935389 Arranged by Dan Heslink. Christian,Christmas. Score and parts. 18 pages. Pharaoh Publications #6117159. Published by Pharaoh Publications (A0.935389). Christmas Calypso for Percussion Sextet . . . . . . . . . . . . . . arr. Dan Heslink  The calypso style referenced in the title is not the calypso of Afro-Caribbean music from Trinidad and Tobago. Rather, it is the especially toned-down but still rhythmic commercial variant popularized by folk singers. Couched in this style, the arrangement offers Christmas favorites Deck the Halls, Angels We Have Heard On High, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Good Christian Men, Rejoice.  This if one of two versions of the calypso arrangement by Dan Heslink, both of which are available through Sheet Music Plus. The other arrangement, percussion sextet, follows similar musical contours and is available separately. Both versions are intended to elicit one primary response from both performers and audience – fun. It does not tax the players technically, but delivers a satisfying sound with carols that the performers likely know and love. General audiences will be enchanted by the familiar melodies delivered in percussion, especially at Christmas time. The introduction opens with a brisk and rhythmic introduction based on Deck the Halls, and establishes the fun calypso rhythm immediately. Deck the Halls is the much-loved welsh air that was arranged by Haydn, Nos galan (Hob. XXXIb:29, 1803). Then, Angels We Have Heard on High breaks out in double-stops with a continuation of the rhythmic impetus. The birth of Jesus Christ as narrated in the Gospel of Luke is the subject of Angels We Have Heard on High, a traditional French song of unknown origin. The gloria section provides some flowing contrast, portraying the shepherds’ impressions as they encounter a multitude of angels singing and praising. The performers are encouraged to use a relaxed stroke to glide through these passages. Following is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, a 16th century English traditional Christmas carol also known under the title, The old Christmas Carol. It provides a contrast in tonality (minor mode) and texture. The xylophone part likely will lay most comfortably when executed with four mallets, although there are no three or four mallet chords in these passages. Good Christian Men, Rejoice is the closing selection in this Christmas medley. It’s title is an English translation of In dulci jubilo  (Latin for In sweet rejoicing). The work ends happily with a summation of the calypso rhythm.  This medley will be especially effective programmed on a winter holiday concert. Duration is 2:30. The arranger, Dan Heslink, assigned a difficulty level of medium easy, and can be contacted at dan@dheslink.com.

Small Ensemble Alto Recorder,Baritone Recorder,Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.842538 Composed by Various (Collection). Arranged by B. Brennan. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 24 pages. Bl_music #5290011. Published by bl_music (A0.842538). Calisthenics for Treble/Alto Recorder 15 Solo-Etudes, Gallops, Polkas, Variations (notation: treble clef) 15 entertaining solo-etudes: Rondos, Polkas, Gallops, Variations….. all suitable for intermediate to advanced students as well as professionals; as exercises for the fingers, just for the fun of it or as (shorter) concert /contest pieces or encores. What are Calisthenics? You’ve all come across them in one form or another….mainly probably in caricatures of Victorian or Edwardian men in boldly striped sportswear lifting heavy weights or Victorian ladies elegantly waving their arms around(see photo) We found the idea of daily exercises in combination with utterly lovely tunes so intriguing that we decided to call our latest publication Calisthenics The music combines training of speed, thumb technique, interpretation. Short: another great fun and educational publication. The word calisthenics is derived from the Greek, kalos, beautiful; and sthenos, strength; the object of calisthenic exercises being to secure physical beauty by developing the limbs and muscles of the human frame, and making the joints flexible, thereby giving strength and power, and ensuring a graceful carriage, erect bearing, and freedom to the figure. In the words of the old Victorians: The highest refinement of that beauty is unattainable without splendour of activity and delicate strength. Exercise is now recognised to be as great a necessity in woman's education as in man's we are learning that many bodily defects and much of her weak health is attributable to the want of it; more especially in youth, when the frame is growing. Such exercises must, however, be carried out under a system; irregularly conducted, they do more harm than good. The constitution must be coaxed, not strained; the strength not unduly taxed, no over-fatigue ensuing; for exhaustion makes people look worn and old. The exertion must not be too violent, and the health and physical development of each pupil must be specially studied. Early morning or evening are the best times to select, but on no account immediately after a meal. The clothing should not be too warm, nor interfere in any way with the action of the limbs. A musical accompaniment will best preserve the necessary rhythm - the time, four or eight beats to a bar; failing this, the pupils should be taught to sing or count in concert, thereby keeping up their interest and zest. A castanet will, failing better means, help to mark the time with or without music. One of our aims is to revive these compositions and bring them to the attention of players and audiences.

Carillon,Instrumental Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1301689 By Duke Ellington and his Orchestra. By Duke Ellington, Irving Mills, and Juan Tizol. Arranged by Michael Gancz. 20th Century,Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Latin,Musical/Show. Individual part. 8 pages. Michael Gancz #891301. Published by Michael Gancz (A0.1301689). Caravan is one of Duke Ellington's (1899-1974) most famous compositions—although he didn't actually write it. That credit goes to Puerto Rican trombonist Juan Tizol (1900-1984), a member of the Ellington's big band from 1929 to 1944. Tizol composed the theme in 1936 and promptly sold the rights to lyricist Irving Mills for only $25. The song became an instant hit—jazz critic Ted Gioia expllains that it fit perfectly with the musical exoticism that patrons were demanding at [Ellington's] regular gig at the Cotton Club in Harlem. Indeed, much jazz from this era, especially Ellington's, was steeped in Orientalist aesthetics. Although we hear it now as a self-contained musical phenomenon, we must acknowledge this music's problematics even as we continue to celebrate its progressive and revolutionary qualities. Part of my interest in this piece is in its capacity as a vessel in which I can explore my own multiform identity as an expatriate of the Middle East, a carillonist, and a lover of jazz. This arrangement reflects what might happen when these three perspectives collide. Ellington recorded Caravan more than 100 times, and the names of its additional interpreters reads as a history of jazz itself: Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Nat King Cole, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis and dozens more all brought their own spin to the tune. What makes it particularly special, though, is its appeal to listeners outside the jazz fandom. The 2014 film Whiplash introduced mass audiences to the song's unique atmosphere and to the genius of the Duke and his sidemen, thanks to an outstanding big band arrangement by John Wasson. My setting of the tune for the carillon recalls both Duke and Tizol's original version and this more recently popular edition. In this arrangement, I hope to highlight the carillon's capacity as a percussion instrument, and to use this as a bridge into the world of jazz. A successful interpretation will focus on groove, stratification of voices, and balance. Try to keep the pedals light!Michael Gancz2023Sources:Gioia, Ted (2012). Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.828263 Composed by Paul Thurmond. New Age,Pop,Sacred,Spiritual. Score. 3 pages. Paul Thurmond #4969097. Published by Paul Thurmond (A0.828263). Use: Prelude, Offertory, CommunionI have a nice view from my studio window on the second floor of my house. It overlooks our big backyard, some trees and brush, a couple of fields, and some small mountains in the distance. My studio is set up so that as I play I can look outside. This year in Tennessee we’ve had more snow than normal. There have been many school closings. Even Tennessee Tech shut down at times, which hardly ever happens. So I’ve had some opportunities to sit in my studio in the middle of the day, look out my window at the beautiful falling snow, and write music.I began today’s piece a few weeks ago, during one of the largest snowfalls I’ve seen since I moved here from Wisconsin. I composed a few measures that I liked, couldn’t think of where to go next, and put it aside for a time. For the next few days I kept coming back to it, always liking what I had already written, but not able to add anything new. Then we had another snowfall. This time I was able to finish the basic structure of the piece, but I got stuck when I started to polish it up.A couple of days ago it snowed yet again, and I completed the work and recorded it.Today is Saturday, and it’s not snowing as I write this. However, they’re predicting more snow on Monday, which is usually the day I edit my blog posts. [Last minute update: No snow on Monday, although we did get 2 inches of rain.]Apparently, this piece owes its existence to frozen precipitation. I considered naming it Paean to the Snow Muses, but I think I’ll stick with my original title, February.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.841363 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn, Samuel Arnold, and William H. Cummings. Arranged by Michele Galvagno. Christian,Christmas,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 18 pages. Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #6098159. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.841363). This year's Christmas publication choice fell on a song very dear to me: Hark! The herald angels sing. The text, inspired by Luke’s Gospel (2:14), appears for the first time in a collection of Christmas carols called Hymns and Sacred Poems in 1739, jointly written by Charles Wesley (1707-1788 ) and George Whitefield (1714-1770), two of the founding members of the Methodist movement. The version we know today is the one adapted by William H. Cummings (1831-1915) from the section Vaterland, in deinen Gauen of the Festgesang zum Gutenbergfest, WoO 9, by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1809-1847). The story, however, is more complex and articulated than that. The original version of the text, written by Wesley, bearing the title Hymn for Christmas-Day, had received only slow and solemn music for its verses, music now almost completely discarded. Also, his original opening lines were Hark! How all the welkin rings / Glory to the King of Kings .The version that has been passed to us is the result of alterations made by different hands, especially those of Whitefield, who changed the initial couplet into the one we know today. In 1840-one hundred years after the publication of Hymns and sacred Poems-Mendelssohn composed a cantata commemorating Johann Gutenberg’s invention of movable-type printing. The English musician William H. Cummings finally adapted Mendelssohn’s music around 1855 in order to fit the music to the verses and give it its present look.In this edition we propose the version that every listener expects to hear when reading the title on the programme and, immediately after, one of the few original versions that have reached us in their entirety, that is the one set to music by Samuel Arnold (1740-1802) and available today in The British Minstrel, and Musical and Literary Miscellany, vol. 3, published in 1843.The proposed instrumentations are those of the classical string quartet and the cello quartet. Both variants are very simple to perform and are certainly suitable for small string ensembles formed in musical schools. In the cello quartet version, the only relatively complex part is that of the first cello, which should be left to the teacher or to a student able to play up to the 7th position without excessive troubles.I hope this music can bring you the serenity that made me prepare it.

Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.1270300). Juan María Solare: Embracing the Comfort Zone, for piano solo [en Castellano debajo]Tons of motivational speeches suggest, or rather order, to leave the comfort zone in order to achieve success. I dare to relativize this idea. In the comfort zone, one feels safe and in control. It is the realm of mastery, the place where we perform at our best. When in your comfort zone we can carry out tasks with ease and precision. Discomfort is not a measure of growth. Stress hampers creativity. While stress might be necessary in some situations to combat stagnation, life itself constantly pushes us outside our comfort zone. The comfort zone is not the enemy, it's not a trap. Instead, it can be our ally, a place where we can safely build with a solid foundation. And if you have the feeling it's not large enough, you can expand it.Oh, I forgot to mention that this is a quiet piano piece! In neoclassical style. Trumpet Duet Trumpet - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.750366 Composed by Eddie Lewis. Instructional. Score. 3 pages. Tiger Music #6604153. Published by Tiger Music (A0.750366). Tug-O-War Easy Trumpet Duet By Eddie Lewis   Introduce your students to the art of syncopation with this easy but fun trumpet duet. While it is not necessarily a performance piece, the song in this duet is fun for the students. The inspiration to write this duet comes from the image at the top of the page. This is an image Eddie’s wife found on Gutenberg.org. She commented how a lot of the old piano sheet music used to have clever drawings. That’s when Eddie had the idea to do a trumpet duet in much of the same style as those classic piano books. The range on Tug-O-War is only up to A in the staff. The only aspect of the trumpet duet that is not easy enough for beginners is the syncopation. That’s how Eddie likes to teach. Introduce the difficult aspects in a musical environment that understates all the other aspects. That way there is no need to really concentrate on more than one thing at once. We recommend you first practice this easy trumpet duet with counting and clapping first. Make sure the rhythms are correct, then from that solid foundation, add the trumpet and the notes. Tug-O-War is an educational trumpet duet and is part of Eddie Lewis’ complete method. This rhythmic focused duet is in our Trumpet Tyro skill level. What make is Trumpet Tyro is the eighth notes. In Eddie’s system, Trumpet Pioneer students (absolute beginners) have not been taught eighth notes yet. To find more music for this specific skill level, search our other publications for the word Tyro in the title or descriptions. We publish books and compositions for students at the Trumpet Tyro level that we believe your students will truly enjoy.
