Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1185725 Composed by Gabrielle Liriano. 20th Century,Contemporary. 31 pages. Art Haus Music Publishing #785387. Published by Art Haus Music Publishing (A0.1185725). The architect ponders, calculates, and designs monumental structures larger than themselves. They build and they figure how to fit every corner with every square. What the architect does we all do with are lives.Creating and computing skyscrapers, masterpieces out of lifetimes with limitless minds carefully crafting rooms with windows that let in our energy source of light from the sun.The architect blueprints the impossible, but with encouragement from the divine, the architect makes those blueprints a reality. Their creation will take up space in the world and reach for the sun higher than the birds fly in the sky. The architect will look up when it is done and wonder how they did it. The architect is a maker. They make what they are meant to make.

String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799513 Composed by Drake Mabry. 20th Century,Jazz,Latin,World. Score and parts. 27 pages. Drake Mabry #3534831. Published by Drake Mabry (A0.799513). C. S. Chaconne was written for a very dear friend of mine when I was playing with a jazz group in Paris in the late 1980's. It's based on what we then called a Spanish jazz progression. Over the years I have made several arrangements of the piece for different ensembles. In this recent string orchestra version I've written solos for all the members of the string family, each with a different mood or character. The duration is 5'. This piece can be played separately or preceded by a companion piece, Meditation for string orchestra.

Duration: ca 5:20, Score: 8 pages, solo part: 3 pages, piano part: 4 pages. One of Beethoven's finest and most famous works. Program for a recital, church meditation or school program. Bring your best espressivo and plan to rehearse the many subtle dynamic changes.Sonata Pathétique Op. 13 First of all, this is an arrangement of the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique. It seems like Beethoven wrote this piece before becoming troubled by deafness. Published in 1799, it consequently remains one of the most celebrated pieces Beethoven ever wrote. As a result of its popularity, the movement was therefore performed by Karl Haas. Hass recorded it for a popular radio show called: Adventures in Good Music. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna for the rest of his life. In his late 20s, it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently, he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies, therefore, belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony, he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano.

Premiered May 2, 2013. Notes about the Music: In the spring of 2012, I was in Minnesota attending some performances, and had the fortunate opportunity of catching up with Matthew George, conductor of the Grand Symphonic Winds. Matt had given the world premiere performance of my Concerto for Brass Quintet (Dodecafecta), and has always had a major presence in the formation of new works for winds, so I was very delighted when he brought up the idea of a new work for his group. The Grand Symphonic Winds, in honor of their 25th anniversary, were looking to celebrate the influx of many international cultures which had become a significant part of the landscape in Minnesota. This immediately called out to me in musical terms, namely in the forms of rhythms and spirituality (hence the title!) The piece opens and closes with heroic and beautiful music, signifying (to me) what most cultures seem to all be saying, but in different languages: we all just want peace, harmony and love. The entire middle section is very rhythmic, using many percussion instruments found in different cultures, also represented in Minnesota: Latin America (claves, bongos), Africa (Djembe) and if possible, Southeast Asia (Dholak). And just for fun, I even spelled out Minnesota in Morse code, but this was merely for my own enjoyment! I wish to thank Matt George, for all he has done for the field of music in Wind Ensembles, and specifically to him and the Grand Symphonic Winds for entrusting to me the responsibility of composing this new work, which I truly hope finds its home in the literature. Jim Stephenson March, 2013 Instrumentation: Wind Ensemble – one per part, except: 2 tubas recommended, French Horns doubled Recommended: Rhythm percussion sit in the middle of the ensemble, or immediately in front of the conductor, where visible to audience. Percussion instruments needed: Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Cymb. a2 Claves, Djembe, Marimba, Triangle, Vibes, Bongos (or Dholak) Xylophone, Glock., Tambourine, Sus. Cymb. Flute,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548462 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Wedding. Score and part. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #3386271. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548462). Pachelbel's Canon arranged for alto flute & piano. Great for weddings & receptions. Pachelbel's Canon Pachelbel's Canon is, in fact, the traditional title for a composition by the German composer Johann Pachelbel. Other names for the work include namely: Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo, Canon and Gigue in D, and of course Canon in D. We do not know when or why in particular it was written. The oldest copy is surprisingly from the 19th century. It is important to realize that it was a common routine for organists to practice improvisation on the chord progression underlying the canon. Pachelbel originally scored the Canon notably for three violins and continuo. He also in fact paired the Canon with a gigue. The movements are homotonal, to clarify, both are in the key of D major. History In due time, Pachelbel's Canon went out of style and remained in virtual oblivion for centuries. The Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra, however, recorded an arrangement of it in 1968. As a result, it gained approval.  Many ensembles began likewise to record the piece in the 1970s and by the 1980s became ubiquitous as background music. From the 1970s to the early 2000s, pop songs correspondingly used elements of the piece. The chord progression, in particular, was used this way. Also, since the 1980s, it has been not only wildly popular for weddings, but also for funeral ceremonies in the USA and Europe. Pachelbel Background Johann Pachelbel (1653 –1706) was a German composer, as well as an organist. He was furthermore instrumental in bringing the south German organ school to its apex. He wrote a large body of music, both sacred and, equally important, secular. In particular, he uniquely helped develop the chorale prelude and fugue. For this, he has, in fact, earned a rightful place in the company of the most significant composers of the mid-Baroque period. Works Pachelbel's music was certainly popular. With this in mind, he also consequently had many pupils. His music expressly developed into a model for the south German composers. Nowadays, Pachelbel is most famous particularly for the Canon in D, as well as the F minor Chaconne, the Toccata in E minor, and of course the Hexachordum Apollinis, a set of variations for the keyboard. Influences Johann Jakob Froberger and Johann Caspar Kerll were south German composers who significantly influenced Pachelbel. Furthermore, he was especially influenced by Italians such as Frescobaldi and Poglietti. He frequently preferred an articulate, simple contrapuntal style that highlighted clarity. His music is markedly less extravagant and harmonically adventurous than that of Dieterich Buxtehude. However, as a point often overlooked, like Buxtehude, Pachelbel experimented with different instrumental combinations in his chamber music. Legacy All in all, Pachelbel was most famous as a composer for the keyboard. He composed over two hundred pieces specifically for the instrument. Pachelbel was also surprisingly a prolific composer of vocal music. All in all, about a hundred vocal works survive, including 40 or so large-scale works.

So many childhood memories of Dad revolved around water-summer vacations spent with my family camping by a mountain stream, fishing in a lake and outings to ocean beaches near my childhood home in Southern California. This programmatic work is in three movements. A Cool Mountain Stream utilizes the pentatonic scale to depict a stream as it meanders along, frequently bouncing over rocks and sometimes heading down a slope, eventually ending in a small waterfall that empties into a deep pool. During a summer vacation, my family camped by a stream that was a natural waterslide. We spent many happy hours sliding down the waterslide into the pool below.A Quiet Morning on the Lake uses the repetitive rocking motion of the piano to represent the soothing motion of the rowboat as I spent summer vacations fishing for trout with my dad on a quiet lake in the San Bernardino Mountains.Frolic in the Surf brings out the playfulness felt at the ocean beach, while getting used to the water temperature and trying to predict when the waves will hit the shore. Many summer days were spent on Southern California beaches with family and friends, body surfing, tanning and simply playing in the waves. Scored for flute and piano.  5:00    Level 3 Phyllis Avidan Louke (b. 1954), a flutist, teacher, and award-winning composer, living in Portland, Oregon, has been arranging and composing since 1990, with over 70 pieces published.  Many of her works have received recognition in the annual National Flute Association Newly Published Music Competition and other composition competitions.  Ms. Louke has also been the recipient of annual ASCAP awards since 2004.  Her compositions and arrangements have been much-performed nationally and internationally and many have been recorded.  She is also the co-author of an award-winning series of pedagogical publications for the flute published by Theodore Presser Company.  Her music is published by Theodore Presser Company, ALRY Publications, Falls House Publications, Fabulous Flute Music Company, Nourse Wind Publications, and SMP Publications.  For more information on compositions by Phyllis Avidan Louke, go to http://www.phyllislouke.com/compositions/

Birds may be heard calling, accompanied by the distant refrain of a shepherd’s flute in this harmonious and homogeneous prelude — an admirable contrast to numbers IV and VI.In direct connection with this prelude, Marguerite Long mentions a Debussy souvenir pairing the scent of sea mist and coastal pines, and if she is correct this would take us to Arcachon in south west France. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bass Clarinet,Bassoon,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1497922 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Mark A. Craig / Craig Music Publishers (ASCAP). Baroque,Christmas,Holiday,Multicultural,Traditional,World. 28 pages. Mark A. Craig #1074292. Published by Mark A. Craig (A0.1497922). This woodwind quintet arrangement turns the traditional French carol Patapan into a Patapan Fantasy, which also includes quotes from the carols God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen, Joy to the World, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, We Three Kings of Orient Are, and Good King Wenceslas, representing carols from England, France, the Czech Republic, and the United States. It is perfect for all holiday events, gatherings, recitals, or caroling gigs. The arrangement was written for most ensembles, from advanced high school quintets to college ensembles to professional quintets. What appealed to me most about this piece was that it's pitched in a minor key, making it slightly different from most Christmas carols. The lyrics are similar to The Little Drummer Boy: When you hear the fife and drum, dance and make the village hum. I have included an alternate bass clarinet part in lieu of a missing bassoon. Originally scored for piano, I hope you enjoy this unique setting for winds. If you like this arrangement, you might also like my woodwind quintet arrangement of the 16thC Spanish carol Riu Riu Chiu. Although not as well known as some American carols, it's a lively and dynamic arrangement that brings a taste of Europe to your holiday celebrations. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Digital Download SKU: A0.1010677 Composed by Zachary C. Daniels. Contemporary. 41 pages. Divisi Labs #6563895. Published by Divisi Labs (A0.1010677). Score and PartsSaxophonic Variability is written with the intent of demonstrating the full set of colors and technical possibilities of a saxophone quartet. The opening movement, slow and sombre, reminds us of the time when saxophones were first brought to the public eye regularly, the late 1800s. The continual flow between harmony, and dissonance is representative of what is to come in the remaining movements. The second movement takes off immediately, and departs on a musical journey of its' own. The rhythmic drive being heavily inspired by bebop jazz, and similar styles of the mid-twentiethcentury. Listen, as moments of solace break out in reverence of the great ballads written for the instrument by many jazz composers of this era. This movement ends as abrubtly as it began as we enter the slow, lyrical third movement. This next movement is incredibly slow, and brings out the lyrical, singing quality of the instrument given the right timbre. The piece concludes with a fiery finale that develops ideas introduced earlier in the piece. This is a great piece to showcase the flexibility of an ensemble, and makes for a good finisher.
