When my friend, Robert Bedont, asked me to write this piece, this quote from more than a decade earlier immediately came to mind. Nothing says bassoon like parkour. (Obviously, this is not true in any sense.)

The sport of Parkour, or free running, gained popularity in the first decade of the 21st Century. The basic concept is move from Point A to Point B in the flashiest fashion as possible. Large leaps, flips, kicks in every step. The goal of this short exciting work is to show the climbing and leaping and energy of the physical art form.

In the fall of 2014, my friend Steven Cohen approached me about doing a project. Around the same time, I
discovered a Facebook post by Karen Jones (wife of my friend and owner of Imagine Music, Ric Jones) expressing
a poetic message about hope, faith, and community. This piece is inspired by a small quote from that posting:
....(when) you see children comforting one another, something inside loosens just a little. And the clouds break for a
moment, and faith is found in the light.
This piece is dedicated to Steven's unborn child, soon to be the light of his life. I hope it will serve as a reminder that,
though there will be struggles (there always are when raising children), the clouds will always
break and the light is always present.

A triumphant fanfare for bands with a strong brass section! 

When I spoke with Ian about writing another piece for us, I suggested a fanfare - an easy idea when you have 26 players in the brass section. After receiving an electronic version of the piece, I realized it loosely followed the musical form known as a rondo. The opening fanfare returns four times in the piece, while the primary melody returns three times after its initial statement. Each return is different than the original statement. A third, darker theme in the lower voices, is played twice in the piece, which offers a nice contrast to the opening fanfare and primary theme. Thus, Fanfare and Rondo seemed like an apt title for the work. - Mr. Michael Hintzman

I wrote For Planet Earth at a time when bush fires were raging out of control in Australia. I was worried for family and friends living there, and I was concerned at the damage we were causing to our home planet. In times of climate change, an increasing divide between the rich and poor, and the squandering of precious resources I wanted to write something to remind us of the beauty and fragility of life on this awesome planet where we are privileged to live.

The piece is a simple waltz in 3/4 time. The initial melody is repeated in two variations, then repeated again followed by the 2nd variation.When you play it, please think of our planet and how we must do everything we can to protect and cherish all of the life on it.

Santa Clara is a folk song from Province of Bulacan, Philippines. This song is used for novena (religious service to be performed consecutively within nine days) for their patron Saint Clare. Many Bulaceños believed that dancing the fandango in front of the Patron Santa Clara can prevent them from being barren, but when you actually read the original lyrics of this song; It tells a prayer about a man who wants to have thirtheen spouses all in all.  The lyrics that I have used in my arrangement of this song is the most popular varation; A promise to dance the fandango when He gets to Obando Church. 

Through this arrangement, professional pianist and singers or even beginners doesn't have to dance the fandango in Obando Church. They can perform and enjoy the music into their very own home.

This song was first recorded by gospel singer, Bessie Jones. She learned it from her grandfather, Jet Sampson, an ex-slave who was born in Africa and died in 1941 at the age of 105. Numerous other pop and folk singers have performed this song, including the Grateful Dead, Andrew Calhoun & Fred Campeau, Lee and Sarah Atkinson, and Caroline Aiken.
