By the very end, the ride is over and the train is pulling into its final stop at the station.This piece is very much influenced by the piano piece Le Chemin de Fer, by Charles-Valentin Alkan. I highly recommend you find a recording of this piano piece to listen to. Don’t try to play Train Ride that fast though! My recording of the bassoon piece is at quarter note at 164. You need not play it that fast. She likes improvising and composing with ostinato patterns and minimalism-type stuff, so I included repeating broken 3rds throughout the piece. She also asked for the hustle and bustle of downtown, so I tried to express that through honking horns and other sudden accented sounds caused by delivery trucks, subway, police whistles, etc. I wrote it in 5/4 because she wanted more of a challenge than in previous pieces and I mixed in a little Mixolydian and Aeolian into the melody.
