Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1178563 Composed by Sally Whitwell. Chamber,Classical,Comedy,Contemporary. Octavo. 12 pages. Sally Whitwell #778526. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.1178563). DSCHbags vs. BACHstards was inspired by a tweet I saw once (can't remember whose) offering the world a new word 'DSCHbag' to describe classical composers who are self-obsessed enough to need to include their musical signnature in every piece they write. My quick witted friend Peter J Casey replied with 'What a BACHstard' and this a cappella work was born.Don't think I don't like Shostakovich and bach. I really them and their musical signature thing is genuinely really clever, but I can't help but liked this habit to rapper who insist on yelling their own names in their songs. That is just plainn annoying.Performance note: The singers should be arranged in two SATB quartets that are mirror images of one another, so that singers may aim each motif directly to the face of their counterpart, like a weapon of sorts, laser beams for eyes.(DSCHbags vs. BACHstards was commissioned by The Song Company).

Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Instrumental Duet,Vibraphone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912928 Composed by Brandon Nelson. Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 11 pages. Brandon Nelson #2082127. Published by Brandon Nelson (A0.912928). This work is based on the book by the same title. In it, one Abraham of Wurzburg, an aspiring medieval mage and devout Jew, describes a tour that he made of points in Europe and the Middle East, searching for a mentor who would not turn out to be a charlatan (or worse). Abraham eventually finds such a figure in a small town on the banks of the Nile. Here he meets the great magician Abramelin, whose system of magic Abraham sets out in detail. What results is the present volume, which puts forth a complete course in ceremonial magic (both white and black). In Abramelin’s system, after a lengthy period of self-purification and prayer, one may call upon one’s Holy Guardian Angel, who will then instruct one further on how to conjure up the princes and demons of Hell to do your bidding. The crux of this involves using certain special squares of anagrammatic words that would compel the conjured demon to perform specified tasks. In this piece, I take five of these squares and depict them in colorful, virtuosic tone paintings. (Learn more about me at bnelsonmusic.wordpress.com).

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1039829 Composed by David M. Sterrett. Classical,Patriotic. Score and parts. 56 pages. David Sterrett Music #644674. Published by David Sterrett Music (A0.1039829). I feel honored and thankful to have been asked by Greg Hustis and the Music In the Mountains festival in Durango, Colorado to compose a piece honoring local firefighters and first responders following a deadly outbreak of wildfires around that region during the summer of 2018. When I learned about the fires, my heart went out to all the people affected. As the fires closed in from all around, beautiful mountain landscapes were burnt black, homes were threatened, and residents were forced to evacuate; however, the city and peoples’ homes were ultimately kept safe and no one was injured, all because of the fearless efforts of those who laid their lives on the line. My inspiration for the music, as well as the title, came directly from these heroes whose courage and effort proved to shine brighter than the flames. Although this piece was originally commissioned in response to this disaster in 2018, at its heart the piece is a tribute to all the brave heroes out there who fight in countless ways in the midst of disasters every day to keep all of us and our communities safe.

Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1277133 Composed by Adrian Gagiu. 21st Century,Christian,Classical,Latin. 128 pages. Adrian Gagiu #868819. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1277133). Missa Solemnis in B major, op. 27 (conductor's score). Based on its Neo-classical style, this setting of the Roman Catholic mass text could possibly work as a festive mass (missa solemnis) with trumpets and timpani, and its duration would fit such a solemn service. However, its intense and sometimes dramatic treatment and universal addressability due to its well-known and rather concentrated text, yet also due to eliminating the „Filioque†(which would still fit the rhythm of the repeated „qui ex Patreâ€, should any Catholics ever wish to perform this as a mass) make it rather a „liturgical oratorio for all nationsâ€, more appropriate in the concert hall. The work has had a long gestation: imagined in 1984 after the composer’s first contact with Beethoven’s masterpiece, then sketched first in 1987-1989, and many of its themes date back from those years. Its working out is quite polyphonic, discretely modal and cyclical, and also full of centuries-old musical symbols traditionally associated with the setting of the mass text: e.g. unisons for the more dogmatical parts, Baroque dotted rhythms at the Nativity (the first coming of the  King of Kings), „rex caelestis†and also at his Passion (whose setting is discretely inspired by folkloric Romanian laments), the „anabasis†gesture at „Gloria in excelsis Deoâ€, „et ascendit in caelisâ€, „in remissionem peccatorum†and the resurrection, a flute trill standing for the Holy Spirit who has come ’like a dove’ at „et incarnatus estâ€, a cross-shaped texture at „crucifixusâ€, and some word-painting (hushed sonorities at „et invisibiliumâ€, anticipations between orchestra and chorus at „et exspecto†etc.). Moreover, certain symbolic roles are assigned to the instrumental groups when alone (the organ represents God the Father and transcendence, the winds and/or solo voices represent God the Son and humanity, and the strings represent the Holy Spirit). „Kyrie†is restrained and soft, besides the powerful chords opening the respective sections of its tripartite, simple structure, and it leans towards Palestrina’s serene modality and counterpoint. „Gloria†begins with a colorful orchestral introduction depicting discretely the shepherds who kept watch over their flocks right before the Nativity, and then gradually the bright revelation. „Credo†has an orchestral introduction as well, but powerful, recurring and based on the beginning of the plainchant hymn „Pange linguaâ€, made famous by Mozart’s last symphony and by other Classical composers. Both „Gloria†and „Credo†end with extended, powerful and elaborate fugues („in gloria Dei Patris†and „et vitam venturi saeculiâ€, respectively) with dramatic modulations and sometimes with enthusiastic syncopations at odds with the words’ accents, a la Stravinsky. The same sections plus „Agnus Dei†end with soft quartal harmonies suggesting transcendent appeasement (similar harmonies appear powerfully at the beginning of „Sanctusâ€). „Judicare†quotes the beginning of the well-known „Dies irae†plainchant tune, and the Consecration between the „Sanctus†and „Benedictus†sections is represented by a contemplative prelude for solo organ, quoting Lutheran chorales, too. Another long orchestral introduction, suggesting the Last Judgment and based on traditional Byzantine hymns, opens „Agnus Deiâ€, which includes another quotation (the famous ’Dresden Amen’ at „qui tollis peccata mundi†and „dona nobis pacemâ€). In the final section, with its refined simplicity, the choral voices enter in descending order, and the „Kyrie eleison†theme is briefly remembered, then it ends softly and peacefully. Total duration: 50 min. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. The mp3 audio clip is Kyrie.

Brass Ensemble Trumpet - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1079739 Composed by Eddie Lewis. Classical,Instructional,Sacred. Score and parts. 6 pages. Tiger Music #683926. Published by Tiger Music (A0.1079739). I have said this in the description for other pieces, but it’s worth mentioning again. I believe that trumpet students should begin performing from the start of their careers. The problem with this belief is that there isn’t much good music written for the beginners to perform. Most of what is published is “dumbed down†and doesn’t sound like real music. I have been trying to fill that cap by composing pieces for the beginners that I would be proud to perform in public. My objective with these compositions is to write music that sounds like real music, but functions within the limitations of the beginners’ trumpet skills. My first compositions of this nature were the three bird solos, Bird March, Feathered Friends and The Purple Parrot (which I let my then current students name). One of those students performed the Bird March solo at a school assembly only three or four months after she started playing the trumpet. That student eventually quit trumpet to pursue a busy performance career in theater (she was an elementary school student) but performing the Bird March for her fellow students is a memory she will always fondly look back on. That is part of why performing early in the learning process is so important. You don’t know when students will continue, and which ones will not. For those students whose trumpet careers end up being no longer than a year, the one or two performances they have in that year are all they will have to look back on. Unfortunately, those who do not perform at all will only ever remember the drudgery of pointless practice and rehearsals. But there’s more to my early performance philosophy than just that. For those students who do continue their trumpet careers for many years, the earlier performances have a mental benefit that cannot be replaced in any other way. Their future progress on the trumpet is greatly enhanced by each performance they present in the first two years of their trumpet careers.

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1118521 Composed by Howard Blake. Arranged by Kevin Riley. 20th Century,Christmas,Film/TV. Score and parts. 53 pages. Kevin Riley #720042. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1118521). Walking in the Air is a song written by Howard Blake for the 1982 animated film The Snowman based on Raymond Briggs' 1978 children's book of the same name. The song forms the centrepiece of The Snowman, which has become a seasonal favourite on British and Finnish television. The story relates the fleeting adventures of a young boy and a snowman who has come to life. In the second part of the story, the boy and the snowman fly to the North Pole. Walking in the Air is the theme for the journey. They attend a party of snowmen, at which the boy seems to be the only human until they meet Father Christmas with his reindeer, and the boy is given a scarf with a snowman pattern. In the film, the song was performed by St Paul's Cathedral choirboy Peter Auty, and reissued in 1985 (on Stiff Records) and 1987. In 1985, an altered version was recorded for use in a TV advertising campaign for Toys R Us. As Auty's voice had then broken, Blake recommended the then-14-year-old Welsh chorister Aled Jones, whose recording reached number five in the UK Singles Chart, and who became a popular celebrity on the strength of his performance. The association of the song with Jones, combined with Auty not being credited on The Snowman, led to a common misbelief that Jones performed the song in the film. Walking in the Air has subsequently been performed by over forty artists, in a variety of styles. In a UK poll in 2012, the Aled Jones version was voted 13th on the ITV television special The Nation's Favourite Christmas Song.

Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1257185 Composed by Nicholas White. 21st Century,Classical,Traditional. Octavo. 16 pages. Nicholas White Music #850509. Published by Nicholas White Music (A0.1257185). George Eliot's poem is given a rich and powerful setting for choir and organ.O May I join the choir invisible  Of those immortal dead who live again  In minds made better by their presence: live  In pulses stirr'd to generosity,  In deeds of daring rectitude, in scorn For miserable aims that end with self,  In thoughts sublime that pierce the night like stars,  And with their mild persistence urge man's search  To vaster issues.          So to live is heaven:  To make undying music in the world,  Breathing as beauteous order that controls  With growing sway the growing life of man.  So we inherit that sweet purity  For which we struggled, fail'd, and agoniz'd With widening retrospect that bred despair.  Rebellious flesh that would not be subdued,  A vicious parent shaming still its child,  Poor anxious penitence, is quick dissolv'd;  Its discords, quench'd by meeting harmonies,   Die in the large and charitable air.  And all our rarer, better, truer self,  That sobb'd religiously in yearning song,  That watch'd to ease the burthen of the world,  Laboriously tracing what must be,      And what may yet be better,—saw within  A worthier image for the sanctuary,  And shap'd it forth before the multitude,  Divinely human, raising worship so  To higher reverence more mix'd with love,—    That better self shall live till human Time  Shall fold its eyelids, and the human sky  Be gather'd like a scroll within the tomb Unread forever.          This is life to come,  Which martyr'd men have made more glorious       For us who strive to follow. May I reach  That purest heaven, be to other souls  The cup of strength in some great agony,  Enkindle generous ardor, feed pure love,  Beget the smiles that have no cruelty,Be the sweet presence of a good diffus'd,  And in diffusion ever more intense!  So shall I join the choir invisible  Whose music is the gladness of the world.

Large Ensemble Choir,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799660 Composed by D. M. Gardner. Contemporary. Score and parts. 40 pages. D. M. Gardner Music #3370295. Published by D. M. Gardner Music (A0.799660). FULL SCORE***PARTS & CHORAL SCORE SOLD SEPARATELY*** Nebraska, My Heartland was written to not only celebrate 150 years of Nebraskan history, but to express my own gratitude for all that the Midwestern way of life has to offer. It celebrates the natural beauty of the Sandhills, prairies, forests, and bluffs, along with the strength of its people, its flourishing family friendly communities, and its deep and rich traditions in the arts. I have lived near mountains, near oceans, and visited some of the most beautiful places in the world, but none of those places have ever felt as much like home as Nebraska. Nebraska, My Heartland incorporates the poetry of both Willa Cather, the famous Nebraskan poet and writer who helped the rest of America gain an appreciation for the pioneer life, and Veronica Torraca-Bragdon, a contemporary poet and friend whose heart will always belong to Nebraska. Cather’s poem, Prairie Spring was chosen because it vividly portrays the struggles of the pioneers who originally settled here, yet juxtaposes this struggle with youthful determination, and the optimism and enthusiasm brought about by hope.  Veronica’s poem, titled Nebraska, is the centerpiece for the fanfare and celebration of a state that abounds with success in all of the ways that make Nebraska a great place to live. The music begins as the sun is about to rise and burst forth with the promise of a new day. It speaks of Nebraska’s natural beauty and landscapes while the sweet song of the Western Meadowlark, our state bird, drifts on the wind.  Next, the changing seasons and thriving spirit of Nebraska’s people are portrayed with an energetic, youthful melody leading into a celebratory sesquicentennial fanfare. But as the seasons change, the listener is reminded that to thrive is also to persevere, and soon a storm begins to loom. First the rolling thunder, then the rain, and finally the full devastation of nature’s fury are realized by the combined forces of both ensembles. Yet, as hope springs eternal, we are reminded again of the strength of the pioneer and the roots that keep us anchored against the storm. Out of this resilience bursts forth a brilliant light signifying the future that is before us for this generation and the next, ending with words that summarize so eloquently how Nebraskans feel about their home: With loving beauty, you’ll forever shine! Published by Colne Edition / BullardMusic (A0.1228954). The Janet and Alan Bullard Piano Series contains a range of arrangements for easy piano, old and new.  The Servant King is one of the most popular Christian worship songs by the English singer/songwriter Graham Kendrick (b. 1950). He wrote of this song: 'It was a challenge to explore the vision of Christ as the servant who would wash the disciples' feet but who was also the creator of the universe'. Thus. although mainly associated with Lent, this poignant song is more universal in application, and we have aimed to present its vision in a variety of textures and moods. Janet Bullard has a busy and thriving piano teaching practice and many years’ experience of teaching adults and children. Alan Bullard is a pianist, composer and arranger whose music is performed widely. Together they are the authors of the successful Pianoworks series of tutor and repertoire books for beginner pianists, published by OUP. www.bullardmusic.co.uk  BU014.

French Horn,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1416186 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Layne Anspach. Classical. Score and part. 43 pages. Songburd Music #997870. Published by Songburd Music (A0.1416186). RICHARD STRAUSS was a much-celebrated German composer and conductor who is understood by many to have captured the essence of the German Period of Romanticism and his works encompass almost every type of compositional form, noting that many of his compositions became standards of the operatic and orchestral repertoire.  While being personally recognized as one of the leading conductors in Western Europe, and internationally as well, he is also known for his lieder (songs), noting also that Strauss is thought to have composed most of these songs with the voice of his wife in mind, writing them for voice and piano accompaniment.   As the story is sometimes told, it was Ludwig Thuille, also a prominent Austrian operatic composer, who introduced Strauss to the poetry of Hermann von Gilm, Austrian lawyer and poet, whose authored works caught Strauss’ attention.  Strauss’ admiration for Gilm’s work eventually brought him to compose a series of eight art songs found in Gilm’s literary collection Letzte Blätter (Last Leaves or Last Pages). Strauss’ completed musical work, entitled Acht Lieder aus ‘Letzte Blätter,’ op. 10 (Eight Songs from Last Pages), was first published in the year 1887, with the intention that all would be written for the tenor voice, and the collection is thought to contain some of Strauss’ most appreciated and respected art songs of the period. For this arrangement, German lyrics are included to assist the performer in connecting the music to the thoughts, feelings, and specific moments expressed in the words that might otherwise be lost if not aligned with the music.  Noting that changes in mood or tone of the music are better understood when aligned with the words, and by including the lyrics, the performer can phrase a passage while having a guide to see the end of the musical line. Romantic lieder allows for rubato in performance, as playing the piece exactly as written on the page will result in a less inspiring rendition.  To match the horn’s register with the vocal line, the piano part required alterations by moving some notation higher in the register.

A Little Fantasia on Two American Folk Hymns mashes up two hymn tunes that are widely used in American hymnals: HOLY MANNA (All Who Hunger, Gather Gladly; God, Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens) and PLEADING SAVIOR (Sing of Mary, Pure and Lowly; Lord, Whose Love in Humble Service). This mashup resulted from the fact that I often confuse and conflate these two tunes, as they're similar in sound and feel. The setting is cheerful and active, accompanied by running eighth notes, with a calm center section. Harmonies feature lots of 4ths and 5ths, maintaining the American folk style.
