Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1073231 Composed by An-lun Huang. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Multicultural,Traditional,World. 33 pages. DoReMi Edition #677495. Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.1073231). Chinese Rhapsody No.3 was composed e in Toronto, Canada , 1988. Huang dedicated the piece to the Canadian Saxophonist Paul Brodie who premiered it in Parry sound of Ontario in the same year. Written in Saibei Folk Style, the music is divided into 5 movements without stop. As usual, Huang didn‘t use any folk song . But the typical taste of Huang’s “Zhang Jia Kou[張家å£] accent†is pretty easy to be identified. With the concert virtuosity, the 1st movement is composed as an emotional Cadenza which expresses the profound affections to the land of Saibei. Using the same Alto Sax., the lyric 2nd movement is followed by a folk dance, the 3rd movement. Chang to a Soprano Saxophone, the 4th movement is sound like a dreamy nocturne which is interrupted by the percussions of the fiery 5th movement. The whole Rhapsody ends on a climax of the Chinese Northern west “wind and percussion “styleâ€. Brodie found more than 300 trills in this piece. Perhaps this is the key to perform the music in real Chinese style. Huang has composed 5 versions of these pieces for different ensembles: saxophone solo with piano, or strings, or winds/brasses, or Chinese traditional orchestra, or symphony orchestra. The attached mp3 was performed by the German saxophonist Jurgen Demmler with pianist Peter Grabinger in 1996. Duration: 20’.

This edition: piano reduction with solo part. La Tromba. Downloadable, Piano reduction with solo part. Duration 19 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q16433. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q16433). This piece, previously considered lost since its first performance, was described thus in reviews of that concert: ... The composition is modern and the humour appears to be that of the composer himself. Michel Nicolay, who has extraordinary technical skill and fabulous breathing control, leads this difficult work by the Munich composer Hartmann and is supported by the accompaniment of seven wind instruments. The bassoon provides rather a humorous bass line in the first section, with the whole work tending somewhat towards the burlesque. The second section contains some really astonishing passages..

Piano,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.934482 Composed by Jason Taurins. Concert,Contemporary. Score and part. 18 pages. Jason Allan Taurins #3379657. Published by Jason Allan Taurins (A0.934482). Moondances is a set of 6 bagatelles for trumpet and piano. Aimed at the advancing high school or college trumpet player, the six movements can be played in their entirety or in subsets. At 8:30 in length, it would be perfect for a recital! The musical material for much of the piece is based on pieces I wrote for my undergraduate composition courses at Western Michigan University, but reworked and expanded. The fifth and sixth movements are entirely brand new music I composed to round out the suite. Underpinning all movements is a dark and sad feeling, but with rhythmic energy.Movement I, titled Moondrunk, is a reference to Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire. It’s an absurd, dissonant, and drunk-feeling dance. Movement II, A Stroll in the Moonlight, shows off the lyrical, expressive, and reflective nature of the trumpet with cup mute. The title is a reference to Hogwarts teacher Professor Lupin, who, within the Harry Potter universe, is a werewolf. The music does not reflect this. In Movement III, Death Dances in the Dark, I experimented with using a highly-chromatic melody which is incorrectly harmonized by D minor chords. The piano and trumpet combine at shocking points in octaves and rhythmic unison to create an unsettling effect. Movement IV, titled Melancholy Memories, is based on a movement of a song cycle I wrote in college. It is at points lovely and unsettling, with a sense of nostalgia.Movement V, titled Dimensions (Pablo’s Dream), is a tribute to my love of the paintings of Pablo Picasso. His cubist works attempted to show multiple perspectives of objects simultaneously. The whole movement is a large palindrome, with smaller palindromes placed in it. To accomplish this musically, I used a twelve-tone row, parallelism in the piano part, and various palindromes in the form. The row is intervallically the same forward and backward. I composed the rhythmic material in the first section stream-of-conscious style, and filled in the pitches. The piano accompaniment is in parallel major chords on each note of the row. The melody at letter H uses the row transposed up a tritone, and parallel minor chords in the accompaniment. The final movement, Chase, shows off the virtuosity of the trumpeter. A common theme of dreams is the chase. These are often quite terrifying, at least in my experience. The back-and-forth nature of chases is explored rhythmically in the opening bars. Phrases of different length and dissonant harmonies are unsettling. A bold cry of terror is heard throughout the movement, harmonized by a chord with a perfect fifth and an augmented fifth. Descending and ascending scales wake up the terrified dreamer, and the music never fully resolves.

A selection of 44 Dance Consort pieces from publications dating from 1500 to 1620 in three, four or five part scores and fully chorded with lyricsRenaissance Dance music provides some of the most simple yet satisfying pieces to play in ensemble on a wide range of instruments.  They are suitable for recorders, modern strings, woodwinds or brass, or where available, reproductions of 16th century instruments, such as crumhorns, viols or shawms to name but a few.The 44 pieces that first  appeared in the publication Chording to the Dance Masters, are  presented in full score and with separate parts for each of the lines.  What is more, a number of the pieces have been re-edited to include their lyrics, should you wish to perform them vocally.  They represent some of the best known secular pieces of the Renaissance repertoire. What makes this Wold Meridian edition of these pieces different  from others is that they have been created to make performing them as accessible as possible.  Chords have been provided so that the piece can be played with just the melody line and a simple accompaniment.  It also means that keyboard players or fretted strings can join in with ensembles, giving extra sparkle to performances. Each piece can be heard in a video on YouTube with illustrations and historical background information.  Even more helpful for players who are less experienced in reading harmony lines, there is a YouTube video link featuring each part, where it is heard initially on its own with the chords, on repeats with the melody line added and finally together with all the parts in the whole ensemble.  If you have not had the pleasure of playing in consort with other people, you could not do better than start with these Wold Meridian editions.

THE BEETHOVEN DUETS By Joe Procopio The Beethoven Duets by Joe Procopio is a collection of duets that artist -composer Joe Procopio has adapted and arranged from the 9 Scherzi found in Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9 Symphonies. These duets are the first of their kind in history making them noteworthy, unique and valuable. Each Scherzo is published not only for Oboe but also for many other orchestral instruments. They are published individually for each instrument; in a Three Volume Collection with 3 Scherzi in each volume; and in a Complete Collection containing all three volumes. They are also available as a CD. Volume One has Scherzo No.1, Scherzo No. 2 and Scherzo No.3. Volume Two has Scherzo No.4, Scherzo No 5 and Scherzo No.6. Volume Three has Scherzo No.7, Scherzo No.8 and Scherzo No.9. The Complete Collection has all 3 Volumes for each instrument with all 9 Scherzi. What’s more they will soon be published in the Procopio PlayAlong Music Program. This is an exclusive MP3 music audio program personally designed and developed in which Player 1 plays along with a music audio track for Player 2. To be sure, The Beethoven Scherzi Duets for Oboe are a marvel of Beethoven’s skill with sections reaching the sublime. It is my deep felt personal belief that these Scherzi will bring you great pleasure and long lasting satisfaction. Joe Procopio AN INTRODUCTION TO THE BEETHOVEN DUETS By Joe Procopio Because of the complexities, range and sonorities inherent in all of the Beethoven Symphonies, it may seem impossible to transcribe any one movement as a duet that is true to the composer. Nevertheless, I believe these duets contain the heart, soul and essence of Beethoven’s melodies, rhythms and expressions; even though these works are tiny when they are compared to the Master’s great musical creations which have no equal. In fact, there is no comparison. However, my sincere hope is that since I have rendered some of Beethoven’s music as duets, his music is now more readily available to all permitting a greater number of musicians and all the people who hear their performances to come to know and love a bit of the world’s most valuable, breathtaking and beautiful music. In truth, Beethoven’s music has stood the test of time. He astonished people in his day whenever he performed his music or had his music played. He still does today. To be sure, his music has enhanced and enriched the lives of many of us for over 200 years. In performing and listening to these Scherzi you will find the whole of each work a marvel of Beethoven’s skill with sections reaching the sublime. Few composers have been able to write down on paper music of such incredible beauty that it reflects the awesome splendor of God’s creation. What comes to mind immediately is Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony No. 6. It has been said, that much of his music mirrors not only the magnificence of God’s creation but also the radiance of God the Creator himself. In any event, this music is simply amazing and awe-inspiring. A joy to listen to and to play. I know and can safely say without any hesitation or reservations that this collection will bring you much enjoyment.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.742468 Composed by Franz Liszt. Arranged by Arte Nova Music Lab. Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 7 pages. Arte Nova Music Lab #4412089. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742468). The Consolations are a set of six solo piano works by Franz Liszt. The compositions take the musical style of Nocturnes with each having its own distinctive style. Each Consolation is composed in either the key of E major or D-flat major. E major is a key regularly used by Liszt for religious themes. There exist two versions of the Consolations. The first (S.171a) was composed by Liszt between 1844 and 1849 and published in 1992 by G. Henle Verlag. The second (S.172) was composed between 1849 and 1850 and published in 1850 by Breitkopf & Härtel, containing the familiar Consolation No. 3, Lento placido, in D-flat Major. The third Consolation is in D-flat major and initially marked as Lento placido. It is the most popular of the Consolations and also a favorite encore piece. Its style is similar to the Chopin Nocturnes, in particular, it seems to have been inspired by Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 27 No. 2. The similarity between the two works has been interpreted as a tribute to Chopin who died in 1849, a year before the Consolations were published. This third Consolation is however one of several of Liszt's works that take a style reminiscent of Chopin; some examples include Liszt's Polonaises, Berceuse, Mazurka brillante, and his Ballades. In 1883, years after composing the Consolation, Liszt received a Grand piano from the Steinway Company with a design that included a sostenuto pedal. Liszt began transcribing this Consolation for the new sostenuto pedal and in a letter to Steinway he wrote: In relation to the use of your welcome tone-sustaining pedal I inclose two examples: Danse des Sylphes, by Berlioz, and No. 3 of my Consolations. I have today noted down only the introductory bars of both pieces, with this proviso, that, if you desire it, I shall gladly complete the whole transcription, with exact adaptation of your tone-sustaining pedal. Liszt recommended sparing usage of the sostenuto pedal in the interpretation of this Consolation and opined on the positive effect it would have on the more tranquil passages.
