Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.977031 Composed by Paul SanGregory. Contemporary. Score. 20 pages. Distant Engraver Music #3534597. Published by Distant Engraver Music (A0.977031). This set of three pieces is well-suited for advanced students or professional performers who enjoy creating and shaping mood, atmosphere and color on the piano. They were composed to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Claude Debussy’s birth. For that reason, they are based on various composing techniques and aesthetic ideas that he developed. Even so, there was no attempt to make them actually sound like Debussy’s music. In fact, while composing them I often felt like I was looking at Debussy’s techniques through the distorting lenses of music that came after him, but that he had influenced.I - Drifting Through ChangeOne sort of change in this piece comes from the interaction of two repeated rhythmic patterns of different lengths. Episodes of contrasting character then drift in and out of the piece creating more changes. The effect is as if one is floating quietly through empty space, but occasionally drifting past various objects or situations.II - Building CloudsTo me, the opening of this movement sounds like an idea from Debussy’s Nuages that has been turned inside out. Unlike Debussy’s more delicate clouds, however, the clouds of this piece grow turbulent and dramatic. III - Moonless HeathFor this movement, I imagine walking through an open untamed field on a dark moonless night and not being sure what I might be passing by. In terms of color and technique, this piece shows a more obvious relationship to Debussy’s music that the first two. It begins with a simple melody similar to that of his Bruyére, after which a Debussy-inspired ostinato gently moves the music forward. Structurally, the whole piece is an inverted palindrome so that a melody from the beginning returns in retrograde-inversion at the end, becoming a brief quote of Debussy’s music. Performance duration ca. 11 minutes.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1455063 Composed by Joseph Hasper. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 26 pages. Joseph Hasper #1034135. Published by Joseph Hasper (A0.1455063). Twelve short movements for wind ensemble by Joseph Hasper composed in 2024. Program notes: Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik the rich tapestry of harmonic possibilities across all twelve keys. Each movement is a concise musical vignette, delving into the unique character and mood of its respective key while reflecting a post-modern approach that embraces eclecticism, irony, and an intertextual dialogue with past musical traditions. This work is deeply influenced by the innovative spirit of Leonard Bernstein and Charles Ives, two iconic American composers who challenged conventional musical boundaries. Bernstein's ability to seamlessly blend diverse musical genres, from classical to jazz, resonates in the stylistic pluralism of this piece. Each movement offers a distinct musical landscape, reminiscent of Bernstein's kaleidoscopic score for West Side Story, where classical and contemporary idioms collide and coalesce into a vibrant sonic tapestry. Echoes of Charles Ives can be heard in the fragmented, juxtaposed themes and the adventurous harmonic language that defies traditional expectations. Like Ives' Three Places in New England, this composition revels in the collision of disparate musical elements, creating a rich tapestry that reflects the complexity and plurality of the modern musical landscape. Ives’ technique of layering different melodies and harmonies simultaneously is reflected in several movements where multiple key centers overlap, creating a soundscape that is at once disorienting and captivating. Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik invites listeners to experience a post-modern journey through sound, where each movement stands as an independent piece, yet contributes to a greater whole. The brevity of each segment—each capturing a distinct emotional and harmonic essence—echoes the concept of musical snapshots, offering a fleeting yet profound exploration of the vast possibilities within the twelve keys. This work is not merely a cycle through the keys, but a commentary on the diversity and potential of musical expression in the post-modern era.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.987083 Composed by Eric Paul Nolte and Felix Le Couppey. Arranged by Eric Paul Nolte. Contemporary,Instructional. Score. 5 pages. Eric Paul Nolte #1954995. Published by Eric Paul Nolte (A0.987083). This piece is a free adaptation and a complete reworking of a study by Felix Le Couppey (1811-1887), from his L'Agilité, Opus 20, 25 Progressive Studies for Mechanism and Light Touch. In its original form, this study was a charming little piece of musical fluff. But getting it up to speed reduced me to tears! It also gave me an epiphany of immense power that transformed my technique. Suddenly I could play faster than I had ever thought possible, and I could do so with a thrilling ease! This epiphany emerged from the spluttering frustration I felt over my inability to play these sixteenth notes at Le Couppey's metronome marking of 144. It dawned on me that I couldn’t play fast enough because I was tripping over my own fingers when I used the overly articulated technique of moving the fingers by the lift, throw, relax method. This superfluous motion creates an impenetrable barrier, a speed wall, as does playing legato scales by passing the thumb under the palm, when shifting hand position up and down the keyboard. So I found another way-which I’ve since learned was known to every pianist who ever achieved prodigious speed. Here’s how to bring this piece up to speed with ease: Be sure to practice this piece with each hand alone. For each group of sixteenth notes, gently place the four fingers down simultaneously, to get the feel. Think of your arm, from elbow to fingertips, as something like a kitchen utensil, such as a spatula. Moving your right arm as a unit, place your finger tips down into the key bed, depressing all four notes at once, as a block chord. Make sure that all the fingers remain stiff (not rigid with tension, but just stiff enough to resist collapsing upwards.) Slowly lift and then play each group by placing all the fingers down with a rotation of your forearm, calm and relaxed, with the fingers rolling through the notes at the speed of a brief snare drum roll: Rrrrip! To rip through this group of notes like this takes no more effort than to place those four fingers down, calmly, all at once! Then, with a quick shift up or down the keyboard to get into position for the next group, that’s the whole trick for playing such passages with astonishing speed and ease! It takes time and effort to get the knack here, but the result can be transformative and thrilling! As for my adaptation of this study, I believe it offers intermediate advanced players the chance to enjoy a great leap in technique like the one I experienced, and also offers a piece of music that one might not blush to play outside the practice room-perhaps bringing it at least into the living room for a soirée, if not into the concert hall. To make this adaptation, I wrote a grumbly bass line with lungs, and nice fat chords to flesh out most of the skinny little triads that accompany the original study’s fast passages. I added a brooding, chromatic introduction that features as a melody the accompanimental figure of a broken triad that Le Couppey wrote a few times on the second page, in various inversions. I employed this broken chord figure several more times in both hands, and also added a little coda, sprinkled with sparkle. Playing time is about 1 minute and 30 seconds.

To be sure, The Beethoven Scherzi Duets for Viola are a marvel of Beethoven’s skill with sections reaching the sublime. It is my deep felt personal belief that these Scherzi will bring you great pleasure and long lasting satisfaction. Joe Procopio AN INTRODUCTION TO THE BEETHOVEN DUETS By Joe Procopio Because of the complexities, range and sonorities inherent in all of the Beethoven Symphonies, it may seem impossible to transcribe any one movement as a duet that is true to the composer. Nevertheless, I believe these duets contain the heart, soul and essence of Beethoven’s melodies, rhythms and expressions; even though these works are tiny when they are compared to the Master’s great musical creations which have no equal. In fact, there is no comparison. However, my sincere hope is that since I have rendered some of Beethoven’s music as duets, his music is now more readily available to all permitting a greater number of musicians and all the people who hear their performances to come to know and love a bit of the world’s most valuable, breathtaking and beautiful music. In truth, Beethoven’s music has stood the test of time. He astonished people in his day whenever he performed his music or had his music played. He still does today. To be sure, his music has enhanced and enriched the lives of many of us for over 200 years. In performing and listening to these Scherzi you will find the whole of each work a marvel of Beethoven’s skill with sections reaching the sublime. Few composers have been able to write down on paper music of such incredible beauty that it reflects the awesome splendor of God’s creation. What comes to mind immediately is Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony No. 6. It has been said, that much of his music mirrors not only the magnificence of God’s creation but also the radiance of God the Creator himself. In any event, this music is simply amazing and awe-inspiring. A joy to listen to and to play. I know and can safely say without any hesitation or reservations that this collection will bring you much enjoyment.

Full Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.746748 Composed by Keith Terrett. Contemporary,World. 33 pages. Keith Terrett #3129265. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746748). ere at last is my ’’Elegy sentimentale’’ for orchestra, and my first original composition (opus 1), for full symphony orchestra.I hope it makes an excellent piece for amateur and professional orchestras alike; with some challenging and interesting string, woodwind and brass writing for all.I envisage the ’’Elegy’’ eventually making a good piece of film music, and in consequence any directors or producers looking for a movie theme; please feel free to contact me!Elegy Sentimenatle is a mournful & melancholic work, suited for performances on the concert platform.A Supreme Work of Art!The Elegy Sentimentale opens impressively. Keith Terrett plants a C deep in virgin soil; orchestrated brilliantly for bassoon, harp and delineated by pizzicato double basses this bass line is a tree of a forest; and we are at once held by the strength of the roots. The tonality is immediately clear, and there is a grand feeling of space and power in the wide layout of the score. A lone solo clarinet high in the tessitura accompanied by a solo cello with a counter subject state the opening eight bar theme which embodies the seeds of two ideas, which supplies the generating force for the slightly agitated Piu Mosso which follows. The counter subject given by the solo cello at the beginning is now reiterated by the plaintive voice of a solo oboe and a third motif makes an appearance in the solo clarinet; oboe and clarinet duet beautifully over arpeggiated rhythmic impulses in the harp. A new subject of an accompanying nature, derived from all the material thus far presented now comes off at a tangent on the strings cascading downwards and accompanying woodwind who, play the chief melodic subject while horns cry in anguish. This first section is then repeated; I found the whole experience spiritual, detached and wondering, intensified by the breath-taking stillness. Mr Terrett in the middle section that follows now uses his full orchestral forces; after a key change the emotional charge that follows is cataclysmic in its cry of anguish; the main theme is stated in a full dress orchestral tutti, which is then repeated. The music ebbs and flows with slight variations in the woodwind recalling the main ideas; at the very end high strings bring consolation and finally peace. Keith Terrett shows an admirable command of orchestration and melodic construction and combines these qualities with rare imagination and insight.Gerald Manning

Piano Solo - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811340 Composed by Daniel Light. Standards. Score. 3 pages. Daniel G. Light #6672259. Published by Daniel G. Light (A0.811340). Dreaming is an elementary-level piano solo that I teach to students once they can easily play five-finger scales. It’s built on a 5-note whole tone scale and uses the damper pedal throughout to give it a dreamy quality. My students who play this piece haven’t necessarily learned to read the notes above the treble staff yet, so I give them the image of the hand position to make sure they don’t get lost when they’re home practicing on their own.Students tend to use a combination of rote and reading when I have them learn this piece. It sounds harder than the pieces they typically play at this level, and they love that.Composed by Daniel Light, daniel-light.com.

Published by Pete Strohm Music (A0.1081528). In painting, chiaroscuro is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. Chiaroscuro, an a capella SATB work from American composer P. F. Strohm, contrasts the effects of light in three movements: 1) Light, which imagines the first use of speech to describe the feeling of light; 2) Shadows, written from the view of a thoughtful prisoner in Plato's Allegory of the Cave; and 3) Faded Figure, which presents the musings of a pentimento figure in a painting who was first visible then covered over by the artist in pursuit of chiaroscuro effects. You or your mixed choir may see other allegories--try Chiaroscuro and see what they say! The score includes rehearsal piano. The level of difficulty is Medium. Performance time is 4:52. Instrumental Duet,Piano Clarinet,Flute,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Digital Download SKU: A0.1384127 Composed by Grant Horsley. Classical,Comedy,Contest,Festival,Folk. 30 pages. Grant Horsley #968490. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1384127). The Court Jester is intended as a descriptive piece. The Jester was a member of the household of a nobleman or a monarch employed to entertain guests during royal court. Jesters were also traveling performers who entertained common folk at fairs and town markets, and the discipline continues into the modern day, where jesters perform at historical-themed events. This piece is in ternary form. The outer sections are to represent the general clowning around and playing pranks as a mischievous Jester does. The middle section by contrast is more lyrical to demonstrate a softer side to the personality, however this quickly transcends back to the final section where jokes, pranks and laughs have their way! It should be performed very briskly and lightly to capture the overall feel of the piece. The range in total is two and a half octaves and it is 4.00 minutes in length- Set at Intermediate level. The whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability.Price is for the full score and all parts.A great addition to the repertoire.
