Not being a religious person, and having to put up with it all my brass band playing years, I was getting tired of warming up with hymns. I happened to mention to the person next to me that “someone should take these things away and create music out of them�. “Why don’t you?�, came the response, and so here is my first. It is a variation on the hymn: Onward! Christian Soldiers. It is (hopefully) a fun piece for bands to play in the local park on a Sunday afternoon. Or any time for that matter. I hope you enjoy it as much as the band I arranged it for.

A capella arrangement for intermediate pop SSAA-Choir or vocal ensemble. The Middle is well known EDM Song that was rearranged for treble voices. The arrangement focusses on the buring question why don't you just meet me in the middle? that is constantly asked in the chorus. While the original is a song you can dance to, the lyrics tell a story of despair and resignation that are highlighted in the SSAA-Arrangement through dynamics, reharmonization and the use of breaks. It shows the beauty and strenght of close harmony voicings while showing both a strong and fragile side of SSAA choirs.

The classic Sibelius tune Finlandia has become the unofficial national anthem of Finland. This jazz arrangement is a new twist on a classic, prompted by a kid in one of my ensembles saying, why don't you do a jazz version of Finlandia - so I did. The tune comes out well, with the same sense of pride mixed with poignancy. It's suitable for intermediate players and above. I can do bespoke arrangements for other combinations on request. Finlandia did not originally have words. Finnish lyrics were added, written by V A Koskenniemi. They were accepted by Sibelius as the official libretto in 1942.

The English words are from a hymn We Would Be One written for the Unitarian Universalists.

This arrangement has both Finnish and English words.
