Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1159647 By Paul Anka. By Paul Anka. Arranged by Brad Willard. Film/TV,March. 78 pages. Brad Willard #759904. Published by Brad Willard (A0.1159647). The American epic war movie, The Longest Day, was released in 1962 and filmed in black and white, It is based on Cornelius Ryan's 1959 non-fiction book of the same name. It is about the D-Day landings at Normandy on June 6, 1944.  The picture opens with a view of the beach and the sounds of the waves washing ashore.  There is a lone helmet lying upside down on the beach, and over the sounds of the sea, we hear the motif from Beethoven's 5th Symphony, the dot-dot-dash of morse code signaling V, for victory.  Throughout the film we hear variations on the theme of the march which culminates in the playing of the full march as the credits roll. Here scored for concert band is the march from The Longest Day, as written by Paul Anka.

High Voice,Vocal Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1027761 Composed by Alicia Willard. 20th Century,Blues,Contemporary. 34 pages. Alicia Santee-Davis #2923157. Published by Alicia Santee-Davis (A0.1027761). Periwinkle is a song cycle that was originally composed for mezzo-soprano and piano, but has been arranged for soprano and piano; it is a collection of character pieces using original poetry by Alicia Willard. High High Shoes is an upbeat, rhythmically active piece that illustrates the exhilaration and anxiety in reaching for one’s desires. Wings is a hauntingly slow array of uneasy dissonances, using only one line of text that is chopped into fragments and slowly arranged into a comprehensible statement. Boulders on Our Shoulders has a lilting jazz feel, including several piano solos that incorporate many aspects of the blues. Follow the Borrowers is much more introspective, with the music vividly conveying what the text colorfully provides in such lines as I’ll caress the tongue shapes. The title of the cycle is taken from a line of poetry in which the periwinkle dirt in the sky is introduced, providing one of many colors that are portrayed in the pieces. Periwinkle was written in 2009 and premiered at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts by Stephanie McAllister, mezzo-soprano, and the composer at the piano. After its recomposition, the soprano edition was premiered in Fairbanks, Alaska in 2016 by Amy Ingram, soprano, with the composer at the piano.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1094241 By Joseph Alessi, Christian Lindberg. By Arthur Willard Pryor. Arranged by Aaron Hettinga. 20th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Patriotic,Traditional. Score and parts. 24 pages. Aaron Hettinga #698344. Published by Aaron Hettinga (A0.1094241). Arthur Pryor’s famous theme and variations on “The Blue Bells of Scotland†has been a showcase for trombonists with strong technique and agility for well over a century. While this work is most commonly performed as accompanied by a wind band or with piano, in this arrangement the soloist is supported by a standard brass quintet. The solo part is unchanged from Pryor’s original, though there are some minor tweaks to suggested slide positions and other notations throughout. While each of the accompanying quintet parts do feature some small technical requirements, they remain at an intermediate level where even less-experienced players should be able to pull them off. Performance suggestion: as an option, it’s recommended to utilize Cornets and Euphonium in place of the Trumpet and Trombone parts in the accompanying quintet to more faithfully emulate the sounds of the conical-bore instruments of the period and to better separate the tonality of the accompaniment from the soloist. This arrangement is a great vehicle to showcase a talented trombonist on this classic piece of standard trombone literature!

Organ - Digital Download SKU: IZ.IMF177 Composed by Willard Zirk. Score and Parts. 9 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #IMF177. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.IMF177). 9 x 12 in inches. The title, 95 @ 500, Variations on Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott, refers to Martin Luther's 95 theses, which (according to legend) Luther nailed on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. What is known for sure is that Luther sent his Disputation on the Power of Indulgences by post to the Archbishop of Mainz on October 31, 1517. Meant only as a set of assertions for debate in hopes of reforming the church, Luther's act began a revolution in the Christian church that had great consequences. One major change was the use of more simple music that could be sung by the congregation instead of a trained choir. Hence, the Lutheran chorale was born.95 @ 500 was originally written for a trombone quartet. It was the second commission by students of my colleague and friend at Eastern Michigan University, trombone professor, Donald Babcock. They gave me carte blanche, so I took the opportunity to fulfill my wish to write a piece to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Reformation. Later, as I began adapting this work for organ, I soon realized that it would become a unique work in its own right.
