It was one of the most famous songs that came out of that era. Chester was one of the published pieces included inside a book of anthems called The Singing Master's Assistant. A collection of church music 'hymns' for all purposes during the Revolution within the New England colonies. Many of the soldiers and troops of the Continental Army would keep themselves occupied by singing hymn verses around tents and campfires during their time at war.
