Tenor voice solo with string quartet or piano - Moderately Easy - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8329-E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. Instrument part. 23 pages. Duration 10 minutes, 10 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8329-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8329-E). English. The poetry of Dylan Thomas (1914–1953) is characteristically Welsh and dark. Death is a common topic in his writings. Yet despite the somber imagery, there is often a strength and resilience. The journey of death is described, but not taken. Death is the adversary, not the ruler. The Hand that Signed the Paper speaks of the often cruel and deadly power of a signed document- a document of taxation, of treaty or of counting casualties. The five fingers mark the dead, but do not soothe. “Hands have no tears to flow.†And Death Shall Have No Dominion expresses the triumph of the human spirit over death. “Though lovers be lost love shall not.†Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night represents the fight against death. “Rage, rage against the dying of the light.†The musical expression of these poems places the voice in the low (dark) range. Tempi are slow, and minor keys are prevalent. Only occasionally are major tonalities presented. These passages combine with particularly uplifting phrases such as “Though they sink through the sea, they shall rise again†and “Wild men, who caught and sang the sun in flight…†Near the end of the last song, the poet addresses his deceased father: “And you, my father, there on the sad height...†The voice stays on a constant pitch while the harmony lifts beneath (to the heights), in the Lydian (raised) mode. [One might hear the voice as “perched atop†the rising chords.] This is one of the most personal lines of Dylan Thomas' poetry. As the poet speaks to his father, the climax of the song comes with the rising phrases of “Rage, rage against the dying of the light.†The final chords are dissonant, marked “with determination and triumph.†Duration: 10:10.

Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1408429 Composed by Georges Bizet. Arranged by Dan Jones www.danjonesguitarist.com. 19th Century,Classical,Opera. 21 pages. DanJonesGuitarist #991016. Published by DanJonesGuitarist (A0.1408429). Habanera (L'amour est un oiseau rebelle)by Georges Bizet. Arranged for Four Guitars by Dan Joneswww.danjonesguitarist.comI have provided a score with notes and TAB, a score with notes only (to facilitate directors' page turns) and all parts with notes and TAB or just notes.L'amour est un oiseau rebelle (Love is a rebellious Bird) or Habanera is one of opera's most popular arias. The melody was actually written by the Spanish musician Sebastián Iradier. Bizet mistakenly believed it to be a folk melody but was quick to credit the original author upon being informed of its origin.  Iradier had a gift for creating popular melodies as he also wrote the beautiful La Paloma. This arrangement employs a variety of timbres and the full range of the instruments. Guitars 3 & 4 are tuned to D and Guitar 1 has the option of playing up to a high A (fret 17), although this passage is equally effective played an octave lower (see note in score). I have provided a score with notes and TAB, a score with notes only (to facilitate directors' page turns) and all parts with notes and TAB or just notes. A video performance of this arrangement is available on YouTube or at www.danjonesguitarist.comFor a huge range of writings, arrangements, compositions and much more, for guitarists of all levels of experience, please visit www.danjonesguitarist.comI hope you enjoy playing Habanera as much as I have enjoyed arranging and performing it.

Published by Joy DeCoursey-Porter (A0.897054). A piece best suited for an accomplished HS or college choir, or one that enjoys a bit of drama. Please contact Joy DeCoursey-Porter at joyfulporter@hotmail.com with performance info. The story of King Edmund takes place in the mid 800s and remains shrouded in some mystery. Though certain details are sketchy depending on the historical source, the events depicted in the poetic text seem consistent with most sources. The text, taken from the writings of Ælfric of Eynsham and adapted by Frances E. F. Ward is as follows: The Danes came by great fleet of ship, under Hingwar, to plunder the Angles’ coast. Edmund the King will never bow in life unless first Hingwar bow to Christ, he said. He stood in hall raising no sword. Bound to the tree he called on Christ. Mad with rage, they bristled him with arrows and still with steadfast faith he called on Jesus Christ. Hingwar’s order, and the blow beheaded him; his soul departed joyfully to Christ. The grey-eyed wolf stood guardian to holiness, until head and body one. Holy Edmund revealing Christ..

Choir - Digital Download SKU: A0.1071141 Composed by Greg Bartholomew. Christian,Contemporary,Jewish,Sacred. Full Performance. Duration 300. Burke & Bagley #2880405. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.1071141). This is the second of Greg Bartholomew's three choral settings of text From the Odes of Solomon, as recorded by the Ars Brunensis Chorus.  The Odes of Solomon are believed to have been written around the year 100 A.D., and include strong parallels to the Dead Sea Scrolls. Scholars have debated whether the Odes should be considered Jewish, Christian or Gnostic, and whether they were first written in Greek, Hebrew or Syriac. Early Christian writings refer to and quote from them. A Syriac manuscript containing the text of most of the Odes was discovered in 1909 by the English scholar J. Rendel Harris, and other partial texts in various languages have also been found. There are 42 Odes. Some fragments are still missing from Odes I and III, and no part of Ode II has yet been found. For these choral settings, I selected text from four of the Odes of Solomon which I found particularly compelling. From the Odes of Solomon was premiered in concert on June 2, 2002, by the Ars Brunensis Chorus under the direction of conductor Roman Valek and choirmaster Dan Kalousek at the Husov Sbor, in Brno, Czech Republic. For more information:  www.gregbartholomew.com/odesindex.html

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596505 Composed by Juan María Solare. 20th Century,Concert,Standards. Score. 9 pages. Juan Maria Solare #3360751. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596505). Pasajera eterna [Eternal passenger] was composed in 2011 in Bremen and Worpswede (Germany). This piano prelude is dedicated to Belén Rouco. Duration: 5 minutes (or slightly less). ISWC: T-803.153.190-6 Video clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBeZFFrVE8g Recording on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/4fWhzoB99Se9BrLrZ9f7yd Pasajera eterna is also part of the CD Sombras blancas (White shadows) by Juan María Solare. The title 'Pasajera eterna' is in Spanish an oxymoron, that is, a figure of thought that consists of complementing a word with another word that has a contradictory or opposite meaning. 'Pasajera' (temporary, transient), as an adjective, is a situation that does not last forever, ephemeral, while 'eternal' is just the opposite. Furthermore, if we read 'pasajera' (traveller, passenger) as a noun, the title alludes to a person on a constant journey, on the move. The expression 'Pasajera eterna' was invented by the dedicatee of this work, Belén Rouco, who kindly authorised me to use it to title this music. Under the literary name of 'Pasajera eterna', Belén signs and publishes her writings, poems and reflections.  Keywords: romantic piano music, easy listening, post-romantic, neo-classical, contemporary classical, melodic.   World Premiere: by Juan María Solare on Tue 16/OCT/2012, recital Neue Konsonanz (New Consonance) at the Theater of the University of Bremen. Argentine premiere by Juan María Solare on 25/APR/2014 at the Legislatura Porteña (cycle Música Clásica Argentina), Buenos Aires. British premiere: by Juan María Solare on 23/MAY/2014 at the Bolívar Hall in London (recital Tango Bar).   There is also a second version for quintet (flute, alto saxophone, cello, double bass and piano), recorded in Birmingham (UK) by the ensemble El ultimo tango and a third version for alto saxophone and piano (2016).
