Die hier vom Ensemble Akzente herausgegebene Suite stammt aus: Johannis Pezelii - Fünfstimmig blasende Musik bestehend aus Intraden, Allemanden, Balleten, Courenten, Sarabanden und Chiquen und wurde im Jahre 1685 verfasst. Die Originalbesetzung bestand aus zwei Zinken/Cornetten und drei Posaunen („zweyen Cornetten und dreyen Trombonen). Das Ensemble Akzente fand es reizvoll, einige Stücke zu bearbeiten und in einer eigenen kleinen Suite für zwei Trompeten und Orgel zusammenzufassen: Zwei Intraden rahmen zwei Ballette und eine Sarabande ein.

These pieces have been transcribed from arrangements for flute and guitar. Bela Bartok, considered one of the 20th century’s most important composers, was born in Hungary in 1881. A prodigy, he was a professor at the Budapest Music Academy by the age of 26. His interest in traditional music led him to make many journeys (with his colleague Zolta Kodaly) through Hungary, Romania and Slovakia collecting songs and dances, the styles of which were synthesised into compositions of his own. He emigrated to the USA in 1940 where he died five years later of leukaemia. The pieces are deceptively simple, and it would be a mistake to take their natural forms, clear melodies, tonal harmonies and strong rhythms as an invitation to play inattentively. Quite the contrary. They stand any amount of playing, but only when the composing is heeded, the dynamics observed, and modulations anticipated.

The writing is very expressive and dark, possibly evoking the mood of Europe in the throes of great upheavals and the Great War. This item is now available with parts in bass and treble clef. About 12 minutes in length, these four movements are appropriate for advanced performers.

It was in 1898, while he was at secondary school in Nagyszombat, that Kodály wrote his strophic Stabat Mater for a capella male choir.I used the version for mixed choir (arranged by Imre Sulyok) in my arrangement and I add additional parts for a string quintett or string orchestra. The arrangement sounds great and emotional.I recorded it with the powerful Vienna Ensemble Software, MirX Convolution Reverb and Logic X Mastering.
