This is an original tune and was inspired by a walk I had with my wife and daughter in Saltburn, a seaside resort just a few miles from where I live. It's a happy feel good tune. The sheet music is for piano solo and it shows the tune more clearly than the YouTube video as a stride piano/ragtime piece with a swing bass left hand.I take it through 3 keys of C, Db and D major. As usual the left hand can be simplified by playing any 10ths as single notes or octaves. Bass notes can often be played an octave higher to lessen the distance stretched. I don't notate dynamics, pedal or fingering as I prefer to leave such issues to the discretion of the individual pianist. Teachers, in any event, can never agree on these things. Also please be aware this is a piano solo and doesn't include notation for the other instruments in my YouTube video. I write all my tunes as piano solos and they are perfect in this format so will have a full sound throughout.I hope you have as much fun playing this tune as I did writing and arranging it.

Cape Cod Girls, originating from North America, is traditionally thought of as a short-drag shanty used in activities such as raising sails. Its lyrics vary from version to version between “heave�, “haul�, and “bound� away, depending on the physical activity required. Jolly Sailor Bold first appears in a collection of sailing songs out of London, but has many similarities to the Irish ballad The Banks of Claudy. While not used as a working song, its minor tonality and association to sailing folklore makes for an interesting middle point along the journey. This setting contains a newly written verse warning of the dangers of sirens, mythical creatures known to sing to lure sailors to their doom. Lastly, Leave Her, Johnny is a pump shanty, usually one of the last activities done as a ship docks. In these types of pieces, sailors sing to complain about the rough conditions aboard, knowing they are soon to leave and will face no punishment. While sea shanties have been popular repertoire for tenor/bass ensembles, there has been a distinct lack of arranging for treble choirs. Historical research is discovering more and more evidence that while piracy and sailing was male-dominated, female captains like Anne Bonny, Mary Read, Zheng Yi Sao and others made their mark on the high seas. This piece is dedicated to the women that his-tory has forgotten.

Selling over a million copies in the UK, it reached number four in the UK singles chart. Always a favourite for weddings, Capriccio Quartet recorded it for their repertoire, and it is a song that easily lends itself to a string arrangement.I chose to stick to the original key of D, a great key for string players. At times I have thickened the texture by using double stopping. In this arrangement I have tried to use an open string wherever possible. In some cases there are bare fifths. If you prefer you can choose one of the notes to play instead, especially if this note is doubled in another part. I have also put in some bowing, but the endgame is to feel comfortable, so please feel free to change it and alter the slurring if it makes it easier. I have given the cellist some solos, but everyone in the quartet has some time in the sun in this arrangement. And   don’t be afraid to use open strings in this piece, especially in the semi- quavers. They sound great!I am aiming this quartet at the professional market, for weddings and other events, but I am hopeful that younger players will also have the courage to try it, even if the intention is not to ever perform it but to have some fun! Beethoven's Six Easy Variations on a Swiss Song, WoO 64, is a set of variations for piano composed by Ludwig van Beethoven between 1790 and 1792 in Bonn when he was 21 years old. The theme of the variations is a 17th-century Swiss song called Dursli and Babeli, a favorite of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who described it as a charming story of peasant love. The melody is light and soaring, and it resembles a hymn that followed a century or so later, This Joyful Eastertide. In variation I, Beethoven introduces a melody subjected to ornamentation with triplet intervallic and scalar patterns.
