Then the family takes a trip to Jerusalem for the Passover feast, and it is there that Jesus talks with the rabbis and scholars about the deeper meaning of the scriptures. They ask, “Who is this boy?�, to which the women reply, “His name is Jesus�.The songs are at an easy level, mostly with single-line melodies. There is one rap song, “Rabbi’s Rap�, which could be accompanied by a beat-box sound. There is also a medley, “Who Is This Boy? / His Name is Jesus�, in which the scholars and teachers sing two verses, the women’s chorus sings two verses, and then they sing together.The musical runs about 40 minutes.

Based on 3 texts written by me and a fourth, a poem by the famous ancient Greek poet Sappho. The former were written when I was in grade school studying the well-known 5-7-5 syllable structure of Japanese haiku. I note with bemusement that I had cheated somewhat by providing leading titles which in themselves are at times longer than one of the tersely limited lines. The poem by Sappho was also one I had discovered in my own handwriting such that at first I did not remember who wrote such a splendid verse. All four were discovered, so to speak, by me from my more distant youth and set to music when I myself had just turned 21. There are four movements, Ina Cabin by the Sea - Indoors - An Evening Request - Alone. Total 8 minutes.

The piece is based on the rhythmic motive of two sixteenth notes and a quarter note, which, when stated in succession in 4-4 time, causes a hemiola to occur. An arpeggiated fanfare figure becomes a secondary rhythmic motive.

It sounds a bit like a descant in places, but it's always needed for the harmomies. I think it works well!
