The work is in three movements with a duration of 15'08. The choice of sticks provides the atmosphere and mood for each movement. The first movement is slow and develops the colors provided by the use of snare sticks and coins. The second movement is quicker and is played entirely with brushes. The third movement is moderate in tempo and played with medium hard timpani mallets. These Silent Duration pieces are notable for their incorporation of silence as an integral part of the compositional fabric.
