Initially conceived as a reflection of the exuberant and joyous atmosphere of Mardi Gras, Donald Ashwander set out to capture the frantic gaiety that characterizes this celebrated event. However, as he began to compose, the music took an unexpected turn, veering into darker and more mysterious territory.Rather than resisting this creative detour, Donald chose to embrace it. He allowed the music to lead him on an uncharted path, surrendering to the muse's guidance. The result is a composition that defies conventional expectations and leads the listener into a realm that is completely unpremeditated, a place where light and shadow dance together in a mesmerizing musical tapestry. The final page of the sheet music contains special program notes by Donald Ashwander.

Choral Choir (Mixed) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024959 Composed by Thomas Dunhill. Arranged by Kerry Boyle. Contemporary. Octavo. 4 pages. Kerry M. Boyle #6893443. Published by Kerry M. Boyle (A0.1024959). This is a lively arrangement of Dunhill's Do You Ken Elsie Marley for SSAA voicing.Elsie was the wife of an innkeeper at the Barley Mow Inn, Pictree, near Chester-le-Street, where her buxom presence and lively humour were doubtless the means of attracting all ranks of society. She became very successful and gained some local celebrity. The lyrics suggest that she has 'grown so fine' due to her success and that she feels she is too good to feed the pigs. The gossiping personality and humour of the original is characterised through the voicing in this arrangement. The piece is ideally suited to a female ensemble and will be a great addition to any concert programme.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1026779 Composed by Ralph Calhoun Brashier. Instructional,Romantic Period,Spiritual,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Ralph Calhoun Brashier #6454603. Published by Ralph Calhoun Brashier (A0.1026779). This is a simple setting of the famous 1875 poem by W.E. Henley. People of faith and world leaders--Nelson Mandela, John Lewis, C.S. Lewis, Winston Churchill, and Dorothy Day to name but a few--have long been attracted to this poem. The irony behind the attraction, at least for some, is that Henley himself was apparently an atheist or an agnostic. If you know Henley's biography, you know that he suffered greatly during his lifetime. In any event, the poem is a paean to the human spirit. For believers, the words remind us that although we may have little control over what comes our way, God grants us the power to choose how we will respond.

Tenor Voice,Vocal Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533605 Composed by Carson Cooman. Concert,Contemporary,Opera,Standards. 17 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3030523. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533605). Rossini in the Kitchen (2005) is a comic staged monodrama for tenor and piano. It wascomposed for and is dedicated to Frank Napolitano. The work imagines the Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868) in his later years inParis. After his rather young retirement at age 37, Rossini wrote no more opera and insteadled a life of leisure and luxury, pursuing his great love of gourmet cooking.Although Rossini was from the northernmost regions of Italy, known for their elegant Frenchinfluencedcuisine, the recipes in this work are familiar Tuscan style Italian fare. It isassumed that Rossini would perhaps have enjoyed these dishes as well and made them as anod to his native country, whose national musical style he had so impacted with hiscompositional work. The musical language of this work is ecletic, drawing upon the common practice language ofRossini's time, distorted and amplified through more contemporary sounds and textures. Some of the contemporary sounds and textures are derived from popular music traditions ofthe second half of the 20th century. Since, like more modern popular music, Rossini's ownwork was some of the most popular and widely known music of its time. His tunes werewhistled by people in the streets, in the same way that today's pop songs are. Thus, the musical language of the work sometimes switches abruptly or transforms from onestyle into another. There are numerous allusions to Rossini's own music as well as that ofother later opera composers who were indebted to him.

French Horn Duet Horn - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.551251 Composed by W. F. Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Classical,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. Score. 26 pages. Jmsgu3 #5011291. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.551251). Duet No. 3 - F. 56 I. Allegro II. Adagio ma non troppo III. PrestoWilhelm Friedemann Bach's six duets, F. 55-59, are significant works that showcase refined nuances, interwoven two-part writing, and rapid outer movements, demonstrating a range of musical expression. The exact dates of composition for these duets are not definitively known, but there is strong evidence that the last duets were composed in the previous decade of W.F. Bach's life when he lived in Berlin. Their musical intricacy and expressive qualities characterize these duets. The duets are a valuable contribution to the chamber music repertoire and exemplify the compositional skill of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710–1784) was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, and Johann Sebastian Bach's eldest son.

2 violins, cello, string orchestra and harpsichord - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q1128 Christmas concerto. Composed by Francesco Manfredini. This edition: score. Concertino. Downloadable, Score. Op. 3/12. Duration 10 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q1128. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q1128). Key: C major. It was the Weihnachtskonzert (Christmas concerto) in C major that won special popularity continuing a tradition which was cultivated by Corelli with his pastoral at the end of Op. 6 No. 8 or by Torelli in his Op. 8 No. 6 and reaching to the pastoral in Händel's Messiahs and to the sinfonia in the second cantata of Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas oratorium. This, finally, originates from the music-making of shepherds - coming from the Abruzzi and from Calabria to Rome at Christmas to play the shawm and the bagpipes in front of the cribs. Hence the popular consecutive thirds and the sustained bass tones characterizing the first Largo, a genuine siciliano in the rocking, typically dotted 12/8 time.

Instrumental Duet,Keyboard - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1497861 Composed by Jenni Roditi. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. 26 pages. Jenni Roditi #1074273. Published by Jenni Roditi (A0.1497861). Piano Duo 2 pianos/4 hands. Ritualise, Between the Octaves finally found its identity with the word ritualise. It began as announce, became pronounce, then declare and went as far a pontificate for a title. At that point I realised I was mocking my own music and needed to take it more seriously. Ritualise brought out a meaning to the music that I hadn’t wanted to admit to. It is quite folk-like, in a primal and entrancing kind of way. I can imagine a communal dance for some ceremonial purpose in this music with both public and private elements.Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. The whole suite follows a long line from movement 1 to movement 7. However, individual pieces are well suited to be played alone too. Piano Duo is ideally two Steinway grands, otherwise, whatever is available. An enjoyment of the tensions and relationships generated between the two instruments: grand-upright, upright-electronic keyboard is to be explored as a positive. Each piece creates its own world in the suite and can be part of smaller subgroups taken from the suite, in any combination, but the order of the pieces needs to be maintained if more than one is played. Here is a taste of the background to the musical world of this 53 minute compositional suite. During a reflective time I read the following: The whole philosophy of dharma art (Buddhist art) is that you don't try to be artistic, but you just approach objects as they are, and the message comes through automatically. (Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, from 'True Perception The Path of Dharma Art.' Shambhala 2008, p.133.) The 'objects as they are' became the 'octaves as they are'. As the pieces were composed the octaves had a centring and clarifying role that allowed other material to circulate around or play against them. They acted as pivots, repetitions, drones, ostinati, pointillist nodes, pedals, melodic features, struts, harmonic turnpikes, breathing spaces, bass lines: musical imperatives. The octaves called the musical shots most of the time. When the music pulled a semitone up or down and away from the octaves (as it did quite often) it was especially telling in the context of the ringing spaces the octaves were creating. I became interested in the subtle dislocation that two pianos could provide. By dislocation I mean a degree of tension between the natural acoustics of the two instruments in the room and the players idiosyncrasies as musicians.  The whole point of this work was to examine the nature of my syntax, grammar, and compositional thinking. The title demanded one thing above all: what notes am I going to use between these octaves?? My choice of notes was derived in most instances from the tempo, pitch, and rhythm of the initial octaves at the beginning of each piece alongside the individual word titles that I set out to explore as musical images. The audio was developed from Sibelius software, via MIDI to Logic samples of a Steinway grand piano.
