Cello,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1358142 Composed by Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional. 5 pages. Jmsgu3 #942629. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1358142). The Prelude of 1896 refers to Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's revisions to Modest Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov. Rimsky-Korsakov made significant alterations to the opera in 1896 and again in 1908, which were of vast scope and aimed at meeting his rigid academic standards. These revisions, although controversial, played a significant role in the history of the opera's performances. Rimsky-Korsakov was a prominent figure in Russian society and culture, known for his influence on musical education and for developing a Russian national identity.

This fourth booklet is dedicated to ensemble playing through five trios and three quartets of various styles (tango, ballad, rock, etc.) appropriate for the end of primary school with a few years of experience and the beginning of secondary school. Some pieces are written in a homorhythmic manner and can constitute an introduction to ensemble music, while others are rather polyrhythmic. They can constitute a first contact with the following techniques and effects: staccato, pizzicato, accent, louré, natural harmonic, percussion or crossed strings. This volume is therefore intended for guitarists who already know the notes in first position. Two pieces include a more advanced part with an introduction to playing in 5th position. These are short pieces that do not present technical challenges other than those allowing you to achieve the effects and play expressively. You will find in the scores indications of nuances, timbre, attack and fingerings which constitute suggestions for work and not prescriptions. Teachers and students are therefore invited to make interpretation choices different from those proposed or to try to convincingly render those already written. The pieces were composed or arranged by UQAM music education students as part of a course aimed at equipping musicians for teaching guitar in the school system. Many of them are musicians from different backgrounds (composition, performance, world music, etc.), which explains the creativity found in the pieces. All the pieces have been the subject of an audio recording available on the Productions d’Oz website and on YouTube. Search for À vos guitares, prêt, joue! Vol. 4.Isabelle Héroux, editor, professor, Department of Music, UQAM.Louis-Edouard Thouin-Poppe, assistant editor, arranger and engraver. Viola Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912917 Composed by Brandon Nelson. Concert,Contemporary. Individual part. 7 pages. Brandon Nelson #1998627. Published by Brandon Nelson (A0.912917). A set of intriguing, contrasting miniatures for unaccompanied viola. Aimed at higher level players, this piece is ideal for any concert or recital setting. The first in this set, from darkness, rising, is a lyric caprice which gradually moves from darker modes to brighter modes (locrian to lydian). The next selection, Eidólons, has a veiled, mysterious quality. In this piece, I explore variations based on rhythmic alteration. An eidólon is a spirit or phantasm; the term was a favorite of American poet Walt Whitman. The third entry, Homeostatic, is built upon a concept I refer to as biofeedback music. In this case, I took regularly-spaced readings of my pulse rate and blood oxygen saturation percentage and performed basic arithmetic operations on these figures, the results of which I used to determine a number of musical facets (most notably the essential constituents of the rhythmic gestures). The final piece, Sapta Bodhyanga, I built on a wedge concept (in this case, seven intervals, each becoming larger, ending with the octave). The number seven also features prominently in the design of the rhythmic motives (with chance procedures used in the deployment of these figures). Given the concentration on this number and the use of aleatoric methods, I titled this piece after the Zen Buddhist concept sapta-bodhyang, or seven degrees of enlightenment.

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1430706 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards. 44 pages. Jmsgu3 #1011205. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1430706). BACH: Partita No. 1 BWV 825. Contents: Praeludium, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Menuet I, Menuet II, Gigue. Johann Sebastian Bach's Partita No. 1 in B-flat Major, BWV 825, is a highly significant and influential work for several reasons: It is part of Bach's monumental Clavier-Übung (Keyboard Practice), a collection of some of his greatest keyboard works published in 1731. The Partitas were groundbreaking compositions demonstrating Bach's mastery of counterpoint, harmony, and keyboard technique. Bach referred to the Partitas as his Opus 1, indicating their importance as his first major published keyboard work aimed at refreshing the spirits of music lovers. The Partita No. 1 was the first of the set, published in 1726 and dedicated to a newborn prince. The work expanded the traditional Baroque Partita form by adding a Prelude and two Minuets, showcasing Bach's innovative compositional approach. Each dance movement is a masterful example of its style, from the virtuosic Praeludium and Gigue to the expressive Sarabande. It profoundly influenced subsequent composers and established Bach as a keyboard music pioneer. The Partitas' technical demands and musical depth set new standards for the genre. So, Bach's Partita No. 1 is a seminal work that exemplifies his genius as a composer, innovator, and keyboard master, making it one of the most important compositions in the Baroque era and the history of Western music.
