Rain! is composed for Soprano, Flute, and Piano Four Hands.  It is based on a poem by SubhÅ«ti, Buddhist elder monk.  This verse is his statement of Añña (attainment).  A translation of the text can be found in Psalms of the Early Buddhists II:  Psalms of the Brethren, translated by Mrs. C.A.F. Rhys Davids.  The score includes mixed meter, polyrhythms, and extended performing techniques (e.g. playing inside the pianos.)  At the end of the piece, all four performers repeatedly shout Rain! over an ostinato in the pianos.  The flute part is included with the score.
