Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.908413 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by John M. Licari. Contemporary,Folk,Standards,World. Score and parts. 55 pages. Music Preparation Services #5899717. Published by Music Preparation Services (A0.908413). Minka, Minka (Concert Band - Grade 2)Traditional; arr. John M. LicariMusic Preparation Serviceswww.musicprepservices.comMinka, Minka had derived from the Ukrainian folk tune Ikhav Kozak za Dunaj and was written by Semen Klimovski.  Many composers had adapted this tune for their works, notably Ludwig van Beethoven and Carl Maria von Weber.  This arrangement tries to capture the Eastern European feel that one may characterize (or caricaturize).      This arrangement started off as an assignment while taking Composing and Arranging for School Bands with Dr. Scott Watson (Alfred, Hal Leonard, Wingert-Jones) at Central Connecticut State University in the summer of 2014.    Minka, Minka is arranged in band-friendly C-harmonic minor.  A few items to remember:    - Upper winds have a minor second trill on concert Ab to A?  - The section starting at 53 should be played as delicate as one would allow.  - The section starting at 69 should appear to gain momentum.  - The section starting at 88 should be equal or stronger than it has first appeared.

Composed in 1867, it is a tone poem inspired by the Russian legend of nocturnal revels on St. John's Night, involving a witches' Sabbath on Bald Mountain near Kiev. The piece is known for its high drama, dark textures, and bold harmonies, which Mussorgsky's colleagues considered excitingly expressive and raw. The work was unpublished and unrevised at the time of the composer's death, and his colleagues, including Rimsky-Korsakov, later revised it. The composition remains a powerful representation of Russian folk tradition. It is associated with the pagan festivities of the midsummer Slavic holiday, making it a significant piece in the history of Russian classical music. The legend of the nocturnal revels on St. John's Night in June on a hill called Lysa Hora near Kiev is a prominent Slavic tale that inspired Modest Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain. The legend tells of a demon, Chernobog, who leads the revels until a far-off church bell sounds disperse the Spirits of Darkness. This tale is associated with the pagan festivities of the midsummer Slavic holiday and is a significant part of Russian folklore and culture. Lysa Hora, meaning Bald Mountain or Barren Mountain, is a large wooded hill in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, near the confluence of the Dnipro and Lybid' rivers, and is the traditional site of the witch gatherings in Slavic folklore. The legend's themes of darkness, supernatural gatherings, and the triumph of light have made it a compelling source of inspiration for various artistic works, including Mussorgsky's musical composition.

Instrumental Duet,Piano Flute,Instrumental Duet,Piano,Trombone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.726111 Composed by American Folk Tune. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Folk. Score and parts. 8 pages. Con Spirito Music #6167501. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726111). One of America's most recognizable and beautiful folk tunes, Shenandoah had by the mid-ninteenth century achieved wide popularity on both land and sea.American folklorist Alan Lomax suggested that Shenandoah was a sea-shanty and that the composers likely were French-Canadian voyageurs traveling down the Missouri River — men who sought their fortunes as trappers and traders, loners who became friendly with and sometimes married Native American women. American sailors heading down the Mississippi River picked up the song and made it a capstan shanty — a work song — that they sang while hauling in the anchor.Various versions of the song, and various lyrics to the tune, exist. Some believe that the song refers to the Shenandoah river. Others suggest that it is of Native American origin and tells the tale of Sally, the daughter of an Algonquin Indian chief, Shenandoah, who is courted for seven years by a white Missouri river trader. Other versions of the song have linked it to riverboat men, cavalry men, mountain men, and Civil War soldiers. Some use names, including Sally Brown, Polly Brown, Paddy Doyle, and Dan O'Shea, in place of Shenandoah. This arrangement features trombone solo on verse 1, flute solo on verse 2, and trombone/flute duet on verse 3.©Copyright 2014 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music. Baritone Saxophone Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1087484 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Anne L Christopherson GRSM ARCM. Contemporary,Jazz,Multicultural,Wedding,World. Individual part. 4 pages. Music-Scores.com #691692. Published by Music-Scores.com (A0.1087484). Shenandoah could have been a song of a fur trader who was in love with the daughter of a Native American chief named Shenandoah. Some people say it was a logging song. It later became a sea shanty, being the perfect tempo to sing whilst hauling in the anchor. This version is improvisational and should be seen as a starting point, just to fire the imagination and play whatever comes to mind. For Solo Baritone Sax. About 2 minutes, 30 seconds. Arranged by Anne L Christopherson GRSM ARCM at www.music-scores.com.
