Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1028006 Composed by Becca Schack. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz. Score and parts. 123 pages. Ingenue Music #3140879. Published by Ingenue Music (A0.1028006). Commissioned by the International School Of Luxembourg (ISL). Premiered in Luxembourg, in December 2010, conducted by Dimosthenis Dimitrakoulakos.Program Notes:This piece is named for Yemanya (pronounced Yeh-MAHN-jah or Yeh-MAHN-jee), the Brazilian/African nurturing mother goddess of the ocean. She's known as a protector, supplier, and one who grants wishes. Every December 31st, Brazilians celebrate Yemanya by casting white flowers and miniature boats into the sea. If Yemanya grants your wish, her waves will swallow the boat and if she denies the wish the boat will wash up on shore. Yemanya teaches us to dive in at the very moment of golden opportunity, to enjoy the rhythms of life, and to allow all doubts to be washed away. The fluid, oceanic themes of the instruments represent the flow of the water and magic of Yemanya. The piece starts off with a soft wind chime accompanied by gong/tam-tam. Then the vibraphone enters mysteriously as the main theme that drives the whole piece as it subtly changes. The double bass creates a rhythmic pulse beneath the other sections. The gentle melodies in the flute dance around jazzy articulations in the trumpets and saxophones. There's an interplay of Afro-Cuban beats in the marimba and a bossa nova rhythm between the temple blocks and xylophone. Throughout the piece I have tried to capture the water's motion and the ever-changing face of the sea. As the vibraphone returns to the original melody, we are reminded of Yemanya's eternal beauty and peaceful nature.

Frank Chow #6856031. Published by Frank Chow (A0.902747). Can Can is composed by French composer Jacques Offenbach. Appearing in the comic opera Orpheus in the Underworld, it is the most popular can-can music, which represents a high-energy and physically demanding dance in France. The flexible instrumentation arrangement enables a mixture of instruments, from small ensemble to full orchestra. For instruments of Part 2 and 4, the range is within one octave, which makes the music suitable for junior players who played the instrument for around 1 year. Essential fingerings and bowings are provided in the string parts.InstrumentationPart 1: Violin, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, TrumpetPart 2: Violin, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, TrumpetPart 3: Viola, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Bassoon, Horn, Trombone, EuphoniumPart 4: Cello, Double Bass, Bass Clarinet, Baritone Saxophone, Bassoon, Trombone, TubaPercussion: Timpani, Bass Drum, Cymbal, Triangle, Mallet PercussionCondense Score & Full ScoreContactEmail:walter1994430@gmail.comWebsite: https://walter1994430.wixsite.com/frankchow

Concert Band - Digital Download SKU: A0.733069 Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Arranged by Marc Oliver. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 179 pages. Ayotte Custom Musical Engravings #2968245. Published by Ayotte Custom Musical Engravings (A0.733069). Tchaikovsky referred to the piece as his Serbo-Russian March while writing it. It was premiered in Moscow on November 17  1876, conducted by Nikolai Rubinstein. The march is highly programmatic in its form and organization. The first section describes the oppression of the Serbs by the Turkish. It uses two Serbian folk songs, Sunce jarko, ne sijaÅ¡ jednako (Bright sun, you do not shine equally), by Isidor Ćirić and Rado ide Srbin u vojnike (Gladly does the Serb become a soldier), by Josip Runjanin - giving way to the second section in the relative major key, which describes the Russians rallying to help the Serbs. This is based on a simple melody with the character of a rustic dance which is passed around the orchestra until finally it gives way to a solemn statement of the Russian national anthem God Save the Tsar. The third section of the piece is a repeat of Tchaikovsky's furious orchestral climax, reiterating the Serbian cry for help. The final section describes the Russian volunteers marching to assist the Serbs. It uses a Russian tune, this time in the tonic major key and includes another blazing rendition of God Save the Tsar prophesying the triumph of the Slavonic people over tyranny. The overture finishes with a virtuoso coda for the full orchestra. The piece shares a few refrains with the 1812 Overture, with which it is frequently paired in performance. This is the Tsarist (i.e., non-Soviet) Version.
