Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1324133 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by John McAllister. Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Folk,Multicultural,Spiritual,World. 55 pages. John McAllister #912325. Published by John McAllister (A0.1324133). Down to the River is a traditional American spiritual deeply rooted in the African-American religious tradition. In this arrangement for young concert band, the music is taken on a journey through multiple settings, evoking a sense of Americana throughout. The piece commences with melodic and harmonic elements that delicately capture the beauty of a calmly flowing river. This tranquil texture becomes a recurring motif, weaving its way through various sections of the ensemble. As the arrangement unfolds, listeners are taken through different treatments of the main melodic line, each iteration offering a new perspective on the source material.A noteworthy moment arises in the third setting of the main theme, where the melodic line is deconstructed, giving rise to a completely new theme. This inventive twist adds a layer of intrigue and creativity, demonstrating the transformative potential of musical expression. The deconstructed theme gradually reassembles, leading the ensemble to a triumphant climax.Throughout the arrangement, young musicians are given the opportunity to explore expressive playing, dynamic contrasts, and collaborative interplay. The piece serves not only as a musical exploration but also as an educational experience, encouraging the development of ensemble cohesion and individual musicianship.

Published by Judy Lane Music (A0.915903). By The River - May Morning This is an instrumental piece for Piano and 2 Violins and is a sequel to 'The Willow Tree' also by Judy Lane. The reborn willow tree arrives on a river bank in Oxford and experiences all the special celebrations that May Morning brings: The choir, the bells, the singing and the folk dancing. Approximately 4 minutes and a delightful piece to play.Goodness me!   Where am I now?  The sun is just rising and there is a slight mist in the air. I must be by a river.  There are strange boats floating by, propelled by long poles. All on board are laughing, drinking and singing at the tops of their voices.  I see a tall tower and on the top are small boys dressed in strange white dresses. They are singing wonderful songs. .Now bells are ringing and I hear cheering and music that keeps going all day long until tiredness slowly brings the fun to an end.  The moon is rising and the world sleeps again. .I like my new home. Goodnight!

String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942953 Composed by Geoffrey Peterson. Contemporary. Score and parts. 43 pages. Geoffrey Peterson #4267231. Published by Geoffrey Peterson (A0.942953). Link to complete recording: https://soundcloud.com/geoffrey-peterson/sets/the-edmund-fitzgerald-concerto On November 9th, 1975, the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald left port in Superior, Wisconsin. The 729-foot-long iron ore carrier, loaded with 26 thousand tons of taconite pellets for the auto industry, was bound for Detroit. Earlier that day, the weather service had issued a gale warning. This was not unusual, considering that gale storms are typical during November on Lake Superior. The Fitzgerald’s Captain, Ernest McSorley, and her 29-member crew headed northeast unaware of the maelstrom they would soon encounter. At around 2 a.m., Bernie Cooper, captain of the Arthur M. Andersen, another freighter which was following a few miles behind the Fitzgerald, radioed Captain McSorley to consult with him about the worsening storm. They had both decided to take a more northerly route along the Canadian shore, which they hoped would provide some shelter from the violent gale winds and waves. The Fitzgerald’s long-range radar stopped working the following day and was needed in order to avoid Six-Fathom Shoal, a shallow area of Lake Superior that could rupture the ship’s hull. McSorley soon radioed the Anderson to report that the Fitzgerald had sustained some topside damage...a fence rail down, two vents lost or damaged, and a starboard list. A list meant that the Fitzgerald was taking on too much water and was causing it to lean to one side. The short-range radar also stopped working, and the radio direction beacon from nearby Whitefish Point vanished. This would make it impossible for the Fitzgerald to reach the lee waters of Whitefish Bay and escape the 80 mph winds churning 20 to 30-foot waves. At 7:10 p.m. that night, First Mate Morgan Clark of the Andersen radioed the Fitzgerald to see how they were doing. Captain McSorley replied, We’re holding our own. This was the last contact anyone would have with the Fitzgerald. Shortly thereafter, the Edmund Fitzgerald disappeared from the Anderson’s radar screen. All 29 of her crew were lost on November 10th, 1975. The Edmund Fitzgerald chronicles the tragic final voyage of the well-known shipwreck in 4 movements; Embarkment, The Gales, Six-Fathom Shoal (We’re holding our own.) and Entombment-Dirge. The concerto makes use of several musical quotes. The first is Spanish Ladies, an English sea chantey, which appears in both the 1st and 3rd movements. The second is the funeral march theme from the 2nd movement of Beethoven’s 3rd Symphony which is heard in the 4th movement of the concerto. In addition, a chime is rung 29 times during the final bars of the concerto to memorialize the men who lost their lives. The Crew of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald: Michael E. Armagost, Frederick J. Beetcher, Thomas D. Bentsen, Edward F. Bindon, Thomas D. Borgeson, Oliver J. Champeau, Nolan S. Church, Ransom E. Cundy, Thomas E. Edwards, Russell G. Haskell, George J. Holl, Bruce L. Published by Anne Britt (A0.741168). This famous classical piece was composed by Edvard Grieg as part of the play Peer Gynt, and is played as the title character, Peer Gynt, in a dream-like fantasy, enters the troll Mountain King’s hall to face a great crowd of troll courtiers, gnomes, and goblins. The Mountain King sits on his throne, with crown and sceptre, surrounded by his children and relatives. Peer Gynt stands before him. There is a tremendous uproar in the hall and these lyrics are heard:Slay him! The Christian man’s son has seducedthe fairest maid of the Mountain King!Slay him! Slay him!May I hack him on the fingers?May I tug him by the hair?Hu, hey, let me bite him in the haunches!Shall he be boiled into broth and bree to meShall he roast on a spit or be browned in a stewpan?Ice to your blood, friends! This arrangement for piano solo presents the theme of Grieg’s piece in a tango setting that is creative, fun, and much more accessible to the intermediate pianist. 5 pages.
