Baritone Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549468 Composed by Alexander Scriabin. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3499757. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549468). Score: 8 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 2 pages. Duration: 3:10. An introspective and meditative work with a lot of dynamic and phrasing nuance. Works well for church meditations or recital encores. Background Op.11/2 Alto Clarinet version. First of all, Scriabin composed mostly for the solo piano and also the orchestra. This is probably because he was a gifted pianist and therefore certainly appreciated the piano. Scriabin grew up in the late Romantic period, consequently, he was fond of the great piano masters of the time. As a result, he wrote his first noteworthy compositions in the manner of Chopin and Liszt. Forms Likewise, Scriabin used many of the same forms as Chopin. These certainly include the étude, prelude, nocturne, and even the mazurka. In contrast, as he developed his own sense of style his music became more and more unusual. So, the last five of his Piano Sonatas do not have a key signature and therefore lean towards atonality. Philosophy Scriabin also developed a keen interest in philosophy and likewise poetry. He was above all particularly fascinated by Nietzsche, Delville, and Blavatsky. Consequently, he finally established his own ideas about metaphysics and certainly mysticism. Scriabin consequently advanced theories about the relationship between color and musical keys. Synesthesia He also may have experienced a condition called synesthesia where he could probably sense a response created from a different stimulus. Therefore, it was almost as if he could see music and hear colors. Scriabin, therefore, arranged the colors in a circle similar to the circle-of-fifths and assigned each key area a color. Finally, he assigned the key of C to the color red, while the key of G was orange. Similarly, he assigned D to yellow, A to green, and so forth. Strangely, he did not differentiate between major and minor key colors.  Multimedia Hence, his ability to translate colors into music certainly gave Scriabin a most noteworthy interest in creating multimedia events. Furthermore, He designed his biggest work, the Mysterium, to last an entire week. Even more, Scriabin made plans not only for music, but also colored lights, incense, and dancing. He designed the performance to occur in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains. The Mysterium was never performed, and only sketches of the work remain. Modern Performances In modern times, we often experience performances of Scriabin’s most famous completed works accompanied by colored laser lights and incense. These are the Poem of Ecstasy (completed in 1908) and the Poem of Fire (completed in 1910). The lighting effects for these early performances were accomplished by the clavier à lumiéres. It was a keyboard instrument that projected colored light onto a screen.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Clarinet,Flute,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811794 Composed by Pietro Antonio Locatelli (1695 - 1764). Arranged by Pat Spence. Baroque,Concert,Graduation,Instructional,Standards. 26 pages. Piper Publications #6345463. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811794). This is the fifth of six trio sonatas opus 5 first published in 1736. Although a clarinet would not have been available at the time of composition, the piece has been edited to preserve the Baroque style. Locatelli wrote the sonatas for violins or flutes with continuo and would have expected them to be played by what instruments were available. All edits are shown in parentheses ( ) or dashed lines. The clarinet part is in A. The three movements, Largo - Andante and Allegros in, respectively common and triple time provide equal independent parts for players of intermediate standard and above. The balance of the ensemble requires careful attention and players may wish to take turns to improvise short cadenzas at the pauses (fermatas).

Flute,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.748672 Composed by Erik Satie. Arranged by Mark Reeves. 20th Century,Concert,Film/TV,Wedding,World. Score and part. 5 pages. Mark Reeves #3022545. Published by Mark Reeves (A0.748672). Erik Satie's Gymnopedies were written for piano solo but lend themselves perfectly to being played by other musical instruments too. Indeed, Claude Debussy arranged the first and third Gymnopedies for orchestra. This arrangement for flute with piano accompaniment would fit nicely into a school concert programme and is also perfect for wedding ceremonies. Performance time is approximately two and a half minutes. Breath marks are not indicated, as the long phrases should be played in one breath if possible. A separate part is supplied for the soloist. The composer's original autographed manuscripts have been used as the initial source material, along with the very first printed editions published in 1888 and 1895. Obvious errors in these first editions have been corrected and Satie's unconventional preference for distributing the notes of chords across both staves has been ignored in favour of grouping the notes together to facilitate chord recognition and performance. Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553105 Composed by Erik Satie. Arranged by Scott Camp. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Standards,Wedding. Score. 3 pages. Scott Camp #4625347. Published by Scott Camp (A0.553105). Beautiful.Iconic.Enigmatic.I suppose this piece by Erik Satie has always touched the heartstrings of listeners. The harmonic language anticipates many sonorities that have become essential to later popular and jazz piano.  Is this an example of a one hit wonder?  It is undeniably famous, as evidenced by its continued use as background music for television ads of high end luxury goods. I often wonder what Satie eventually thought of this piece. This Gymnopedie is obviously his best known work, so I wonder if it also stands out as having generated the most revenue for Satie. If so, why didn't he replicate its success? Did he understand what he himself had created?  So many questions... I guess I'll have to ask Alexa.

Clarinet Quintet,Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553497 Composed by Erik Satie. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Holiday,Standards,Wedding. 9 pages. RayThompsonMusic #2989179. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553497). This piece, originally for piano, is one of three. Satie wrote it without bar lines: I have added dashed ones to aid performance. The melody moves around the instruments, and I have varied the accompaniment giving the bass to the three lower clarinets. The expression marks are my own. Satie marks the piece p throughout, with some cresc/dim. My arrangement differs from many others, in that the melody is NOT given to one instrument throughout. More interesting for the players! The piece is in Satie's original key. Alternative Bb parts provided for Eb clt. and alto clt.
