Don’t worry...we’re going to get through this! Paderewski, we love you, but your hands were just too big. Mélodie has lots of large intervals in the left hand that many pianists can’t play comfortably. But that’s no excuse to give up on a lovely piece of piano music, right?My edition of this piece features helpful fingerings and grayed-out noteheads indicating which notes can be avoided. I’ve also highlighted some places where the right hand can reach down and play the highest note of some of these large chords, with the goal of being faithful to Paderewski’s intentions whenever possible.
