Several rock artists have also sampled the adagio, like Kiss and Billie Joel. The 2nd Movement were featured and played by Schroeder in the 1969 animated films A Boy Named Charlie Brown and It's the Pied Piper, Charlie Brown. His family moved to Paris, after Metz and part of Lorraine were annexed to Germany in 1871 following the Franco-Prussian War. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, gaining first prizes for solfège, piano, organ, counterpoint and fugue. He won the French Prix de Rome in 1882, with his cantata Edith. His teachers included Antoine François Marmontel, Albert Lavignac, Émile Durand, César Franck (for the organ) and Jules Massenet (for composition).He succeeded César Franck as organist at Sainte-Clotilde Basilica in Paris from 1890 to 1898. He himself was succeeded by another distinguished Franck pupil, Charles Tournemire. Associated for many years with Édouard Colonne's concert series, the Concerts Colonne, from 1903, Pierné became chief conductor of this series in 1910.His most notable early performance was the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird, at the Ballets Russes, Paris, on 25 June 1910. I decided to take a chance by trying to do an orchestral transcription of the brilliant Arensky Piano Trio D minor op. 32, where the parts of the solo violin and cello remained in their place, and the piano part was completely replaced by the orchestra. Particular attention is paid to the balance of sound between solo instruments and the orchestra.

It remained familiar for many years thereafter as the theme song of Jack Benny, played at the opening of his radio and television programs. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We added what we think are some pretty cool left-hand fills that we hope you will like! Mary Elizabeth Frye (1905-2004) The poem that Mary had written in 1932 depicts the story of a young Jewish girl, Margaret Schwarzkopf, who had been staying at the Frye’s household and was unable to visit her dying grandmother in Germany due to anti-Semitic unrest.  Mary Frye made several copies of the poem and circulated them privately and among her friends. She never published or copyrighted the poem and so it remained unknown until Frye revealed that she had written it.  Her claim was confirmed in 1998 after research by Abigail Van Buren.

He was a prolific composer in a wide range of genres....symphonies, string quartets, operas and chamber music. He founded a music publishing business in Paris which published works of such composers as Mozart, Beethoven and Boccherini. He arranged works of composer such as this composition by Devienne that he arranged as a flute duet. His music is noted for it simplicity which made it quite popular with the amateur musicians of his time, but it quickly fell out of favor with his death.

Hymnary.org tells us that English organist George Job Elvey (1816-1893 ), the composer of the tune, ST. GEORGE'S WINDSOR, was educated at Oxford and at the Royal Academy of Music. At age nineteen Elvey became organist and master of the boys' choir at St. George Chapel, Windsor, where he remained until his retirement in 1882. He was knighted after he provided music for Princess Louise's wedding in 1871.

The Hildegard Motets comprise a cycle of nine unaccompanied choral motets using texts by the 12th century abbess Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179). The texts were extracted from Hildegard's opus of more than seventy sacred poems titled Symphinia armonie celestium revelationum. Although these poems have been translated into English (more than once) and some of the translations are quite brilliant, I chose to set the original Latin texts as I felt they remained closer to Hildegard's own thoughts. The nine poems used in this cycle were selected according to their appropriateness to seasons in the Christian liturgical caldendar (thus, most of them can be sung in specific liturgical settings) and to their appropriateness to the structured plan of this cycle as well as for their sheer poetic beauty. Hildegard's poetic vocabulary was unusual and unique; she frequently used language that is not found in standard Latin liturgical texts. As with the music she composed, her poetry is highly ecstatic, vivid and rich in imagery.

The solo should be played on a clarinet in B flat as opposed to the traditional clarinet in A.
