One of the most popular explanations of the origins of this tune is from Joe’s brother, Séamus. According to him, the two brothers heard the tune in County Clare being played on a ‘battered old concertina’. Later that night, the two brothers recreated the tune tune as best they could, ‘staying up through the night working and worrying the remembered fragments until finally the reel took shape’. The piece was inspired by a six-month old baby in the composer's extended family and received it's first performance at her naming ceremony in September, 2015. The lush harmonies are loosely based on the letters of the child's name, creating an ostinato pattern. The elegant melody and impressionistic musical gestures are reminiscent of a young child's early, ballet-like dreams.
