But, it was not published until Mao went to Chongqing in 1945 to hold a peace talk with Jiang Jieshi (Chiang Kai-shek). It was said that the poem was sent to Mr. Liu Ya-zi as a gift. Mao and Jiang had been deadly enemies in their whole lives. Mao defeated Jiang the finally in 1949 and founded the People's Republic of China. Translated in English by Johnson K. Gao in 2008 at 71 years of age in DallasTexas, USA. The translator had not been born when the poem was written. Gao had composed a song for that Chinese poem. Martino was  already developing his own sound and is in excellent form with pianist Eddie Green, drummer Lenny  McBrowne, and either Ben Tucker or Tyrone Brown on bass during two group originals, Benny  Golson's Park Avenue Petite, John Coltrane's Lazy Bird, and the standard Close Your Eyes.  It's a good example of Pat Martino's playing in his early period.
