She told me about her daughter, Rachel, who was born with two extremely rare diseases. The first is  Subcortical Band Heterotopia.  The other is Lennox Gastaut Syndrome.  The latter, likely consequential to the first, is the more lethal of the two, as it causes severe seizures and is not controlled for long by drugs.  The first, the most devastating and life-affecting is characterized by abnormal brain development which causes this delightful young woman of 25 to be locked in the brain of a pre-pubescent child or younger.Dad has left, and his legal obligation to child support ended in 2019.  In NJ, disability, no matter how severe, only extends the legal child support obligation to age 23.  Of course child support payments cannot possibly fulfill or replace the financial, emotional and moral support needed to care for a child without such severe disability.  How much less when the child has such severe disabilities.All proceeds from sales of this song, including licensing and royalties, will be gifted to Rachel's Mom until 31 December 2032 or ten years after Rachel's decease, whichever is later.

This is the first movement from Suite Grandkids which contains six pieces originally scored for classical guitar trio, one for each of the grandkids that I had at that time (2005). This version is for classical guitar solo. Most of the notes are there. It is fun to perform as multi-tasking is required to play a percussion part with feet. The picture of my grandkids looks like a poster for cultural diversity. Their varied genetic backgrounds presented an opportunity to compose an eclectic suite with each piece presenting a style representative of their unique genetic heritage. Performance time for the entire suite is 23 minutes but each piece could stand alone on a concert program. Riely's Dance was intended to present only African rhythms with no melody, but a rock n' roll middle somehow snuck in. Gabriel's Oboe is the main theme for the 1986 film The Mission, with Robert de Niro, Jeremy Irons, Liam Neeson and directed by Roland Joffé. The theme was written by Italian composer Ennio Morricone, and has since been arranged and performed several times by artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Holly Gornik, and Brynjar Hoff, among others. The theme has been called unforgettable and a celebrated oboe melody.[6] Vocalist Sarah Brightman convinced Morricone to allow her to set lyrics to the theme to create her own song, Nella Fantasia. In 2010, Morricone encouraged soprano Hayley Westenra to write English lyrics for Gabriel's Oboe in her album Paradiso. The arrangement has been made for brass band with a soloist in Bb.
