Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.998850 Composed by Robert A. Howard. 20th Century,Advent,Christmas,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score. 3 pages. Robert A. Howard #6198291. Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.998850). This is an original setting of the well-known Advent text, for use in worship or concerts at Christmas. It is an accessible 6-verse modal carol, here in an easy unison/solo version which simply repeats the same music (with different words) on each verse. The work can be performed by a solo voice throughout. Alternatively, this vocal line can be sung by a unison choir of any voices (male or female), with optional solo verses, to be arranged as a choral director wishes. The piece is appropriate for virtually any standard and size of unison choir, including school, student, community, church and cathedral choirs, as well as for just solo voice. The accompaniment can be played on the piano or organ. The through-composed 4-part SATB version of this piece, as well as the through-composed flexible version for any voices, by the same composer, are also available via Sheet Music Plus.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1502478 Composed by Cecil Frances Alexander. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Christmas,Historic,Traditional. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #1078262. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1502478). Once in Royal David's City is an essential and beloved Christmas carol for several reasons:Historical significance: The hymn was written in 1848 by Cecil Frances Alexander as part of a collection called Hymns for Little Children. The traditional opening of a famous service: Since 1919, this carol has been prominent as the opening processional hymn for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, held on Christmas Eve at King's College Chapel, Cambridge. The BBC World Service and American Public Media broadcast this service worldwide, giving the hymn global exposure.Unique performance tradition: At King's College, the first verse is traditionally sung as a solo by a boy chorister, chosen by the choirmaster just moments before the service begins. This adds an element of anticipation and showcases young talent.Theological content: The hymn tells the story of Christ's birth and childhood, emphasizing His divinity and humanity. It connects the nativity story to broader Christian theology, making it both a narrative and a teaching tool.Musical qualities: The tune IRBY, composed by Henry John Gauntlett, is widely regarded as beautiful and memorable. Despite its relative simplicity, it has been praised for its intimate scale and inspired melody.Widespread use: Beyond its famous use at King's College, the hymn has become popular in churches of various denominations worldwide, especially during Christmas services.Cultural impact: The hymn has become deeply associated with Christmas in many English-speaking countries, evoking nostalgia and religious sentiment for many listeners. In essence, Once in Royal David's City is essential not just for its content but for its role in Christmas traditions, its educational value, and its ability to connect people to the holiday's religious aspects through music.

Handbell - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.953737 Composed by COMPOSER Henry John Gauntlett, and a Traditional French Carol. Arranged by G. R. Adkison. Christian,Christmas,Sacred. Score. 4 pages. Gary Ray Adkison #30517. Published by Gary Ray Adkison (A0.953737). Song of Christmas is an arrangement for 3-4-5 octave handbell choir. It is a 56 measure Christmas carol medley. It starts with Once in Royal David's City, in the key of F. The first verse uses handchimes, although handbells can be substituted for the chimes, if desired. The second verse is louder, switches to handbells, uses fuller chords and is in the key of Bb. The last two musical phrases of this carol are repeated, grandioso. There is then a softer handchime repeat of the last phrase. Without pause, it begins a lively version of Sing We Now of Christmas in Eb. The melody alternates between handchimes and handbells. When the chimes are playing, the bells only play fills, etc. There is a brief (2 measure) passage with handbells in the key of D, then it switches back to Eb for the big ending, using only bells. The ending is half-timed, with a descending chordal descant to the martellato stinger. (Throughout the entire arrangement, handbells can substitute for handchimes.) This arrangement is probably about a level 2 degree of difficulty.

Choral Choir,Choral (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890640 Composed by Stella ter Hart. Concert,Folk,Jewish,Standards. 8 pages. Stella ter Hart #3455425. Published by Stella ter Hart (A0.890640). Inspired by the 1,116 orphaned Polish children who, as Holocaust survivors, were brought to Canada after World War II  and became known as The Redeemed Children. These tunes, and others like them, were the only possessions they had  and their only direct connection to the past.  I received a copy of a book of tunes (unarranged) while speaking at a conference; an elderly gentlemen came up to me, pressed them into my hands and asked me to help keep them alive. The work features two tunes, both on the theme of motherhood.  The first tune describes a young mother shushing everything around her so that her little son can sleep.  The second tune rejoices when the poor are raised up and a barren woman's house is filled with the laughter of children. To honour the integrity of the tunes, this work features idiomatic writing and harmonies and captures not only the rhythm but also the intended mood and sentiment.  Brief solo opportunities feature a soprano and alto in a traditional 'cantor' style section.  Shifting from sweet and gentle to driving and energetic, this is an excellent work to build musical expression, story telling and deep empathy.Suitable for all intermediate level treble choirs for any recital, concert or festival occasion.Duration:  4:05                                                                                                                                                                         Key Structure:  Eflat major and C minor                                                                                                                             Level:  intermediate                                                                                                                                                       Language: Yiddish and Hebrew (translations and pronunciation guide provided)composer contact:  www.stellaterhart.com

Choral Choir,Choral (SAT) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1290984 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Advent,Christian,Christmas. 12 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #881674. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1290984). This is a rich and powerful setting of a familiar nativity story. The main theme is in 5/4 time (which is easier to read than some singers might imagine) and an extended middle section is in 3/2 and later 3/4. Although the piece is tonal, there’s some chromatic writing making this setting appropriate for more experienced groups of singers. The anthem contains a short a cappella section. The SAT voicing makes this arrangement suitable for competent high school or college choirs that have no bass singers. There is a short divisi section in the Soprano part. Voice ranges are as follows: Soprano D4-G5; Alto B3-D5; Tenor D3-F4.The piano part is of moderate difficulty but could be handled by any competent pianist. The anthem would make an excellent addition to any Christmas concert, Christmas service or Nativity event. If you like this choral piece, you might also be interested in the other Colin Kirkpatrick Nativity Anthems in this SAT series (also available SSA). (Duration 03:42).
