A jolly parody of Shakespeare's song by the same name but using my Bell Dance as the melody to represent mobile phones (or cell phones as they say in the USA). A version for men's voices is also available on this site. The sound sample here was performed by the Composer's Choir under Dan Shaw. ring ding dong ding dong ring ding dong ding dong It was a lover and his lass in the spring time that through the city streets did pass in this ring time calling each other every minute or two and texting in case they couldn't get through oh hearken to the lovers in the spring time! Between the supermarket aisles while they're shopping these pretty city folk would chat without stopping vainly the birds are welcoming spring with their song they'll wear themselves out e'er very long while lads and lasses never tire of ringing! Then one day when Romeo must text his Julietta just to say I luv ya yeah I luv ya so much but then she rings back to tell him that it's all over she's met a nicer lad from Folkestone or Dover (It's all over it's all over lad from Dover) so he just rings to all of his pals and calls her a slag! and all the people on the tram hear the show while our pretty city folk live all on their mobile then suddenly the battery's flat as a skate and Romeo can not ring his mate he's sorry that he called her slag in spring time he can't ring her he can't ring his Julietta sorry now in spring.

Composed by Stella ter Hart. Arranged by Stella ter Hart. 20th Century,Folk,Standards. 12 pages. Stella ter Hart #3455153. Published by Stella ter Hart (A0.890639).

This hauntingly beautiful and artistic arrangement of She's Like the Swallow contains the original, very old Newfoundland folk text very rarely used due to it's tragic story line. It is in the genre of beware the uncaring man common in folk songs of Europe which served to teach and warn young girls about the dangers of infatuation.  This genre travelled to the United States and Canada in the 1700's. The expression apron low/apron high is a common thread in this genre and refers to being pregnant.  She's Like the Swallow tells the tragic tale of a young girl who has fallen in love with, no doubt, a handsome but uncaring man.  The story is told from each character's perspective plus an observer (narrator).  The girl ultimately creates her own funeral bower of rose petals (ripping them off in desperation as she frantically runs through a garden), lies down on this 'bed of roses' and dies.  You have probably heard this song many times without ever knowing the true meaning due to significant verses left out.

You will need a skilled accompanist!  The accompaniment utilizes significant word painting throughout to highlight the haunting melody line. Word painting depicts the swallow, uncaring cruelty, desperation, blindly going in circles, anger, church bells and fading away/dying.  The conductor is free to take liberties with the tempi and dynamics in order to create a unique interpretation that will resonate with their own choral group.

This arrangement of She's Like the Swallow is an exceptional festival or competition piece and one that should be in the repertoire of every skilled women's choir!

A beautiful, inspiring choral composition for women's choir inspired by the story of Esther.  Music by Kevin G. Pace.  Text by Mary Ann W. Snowball.

Text:
For such a time as this we come to fight the foe,
Wherever we are placed, like Esther long ago.
Though Satan lays his snares and tries our souls to cheat,
Our courage we'll maintain; our mission we'll complete.

Not on our watch, we will not retreat.
Yes, on our watch, Satan we will beat.
Not on our watch, we will not withdraw.
Yes, on our watch, we will keep God's laws.

For such a time as this, through covenants we'll convey
Our trust in God's sure care until the coming day.
We will manifest true faith and cheerfully comply.
We'll consecrate our all and honor God on high.

Not on our watch, we will not recede.
Yes, on our watch, we will ever heed.
Not on our watch, we'll not fail to stand.
Yes, on our watch, we will take God's hand.

For such a time as this, our Savior's always near.
By fasting and through prayer, we will not ever fear.
We have come to do his will, and in his strength abide.
For such a time as this, our God is by our side.

Yes, in these days, vict'ry we will claim.
Yes, we'll conquer, honoring his Name.
This is our time, courage He'll bestow,
And, like Esther, heaven's God we know.

And, like Esther, heaven's God we know.

The presence of children in a choir presentation can be quite charming and encouraging for the congregation.

These kind of experiences for children can prepare them for a love of choral and exposure to singing with the big choir.

Plus, as Psalm 8:2 informs us, children can have a ministry that silences the negative influence of the enemy and bring strength and encouragement to all who hear them sing praise!

The children's part in this piece of music is a simple counter melody, no parts.  You do not need an established children's choir, only a few good singers will do nicely.

„Improvisation On Tchaikovsky`s Cherubic Hymn.

It is an original Harp improvisation to be accompanied by an adaptation for strings inspired by Tchaikovsky`s choir piece „Cherubic Hymn.

The harmonic structure of Tchaikowky`s original work has been faithfully reproduced, so all credits for this piece goes to him.

Rather than an arrangement, the outcome of this adventurous experience resulted in an improvisation for the Harp. With the added melodies on the Harp and the stringed instrumental caracter of the orquestral adaptation, the piece gains a stronger tone contrast, keeping at the same time its deep spiritual beauty, thus bringing it to a wider range of public and performance choices.

it is very easy to perform, yet it moves deeply both performer and public.

The piece is appropriate for beginner students. It can be used in serious concerts and all kinds of cultural events. It is a very Spiritual piece, it induces a wonderful mood in Baptism or Christmas celebrations.

One can get married to it.

The piece is also appropriate to honor someone in a funeral.

Although this score was composed in full intent to be performed as written, the Harp part can be played by itself and the orquestral arrangement from the Hymn can also be performed without the Harp.

This score was conceived so that without adaptations, the Harp the orchestra and the original Choir could perform at the same time. Or intercalated „Ad Lieb, the Harp with the choir, or the orquestra with the choir. Instead of a full string orquestra one can also use just a string quartet and a doublebass.

A Little Historical Note.

„The Cherubic Hymn is part of the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom written in the fourth century by the Byzantine saint, honored as such by both Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches.

In the context of the liturgy, the hymn is sung during the most mystical and spiritual part of the service as a prelude to the transubstantiation of bread and wine into the real presence of Our Lord.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the inspiring Master and genial composer with whom I had the happy causality to write this improvisation or „collab was born in; 25 April/7 May 1840 – 25 October/6 November 1893, was a Russian composer of the late Romantic period, he created an outstanding number of unique musical masterpieces. Tchaikovsky was honored in 1884, by Emperor Alexander III, and awarded a lifetime pension.

Composed by Franz Schubert. Arranged by Roar Kvam. Romantic Period,Sacred. Score and parts. 98 pages. KVAMusic Edition #5321083. Published by KVAMusic Edition (A0.768512).

The Mass no. 2 in G major by Franz Schubert, D 167, was composed in 1815.

This is the best known of the three shorter mass compositions which Schubert composed between the more elaborate first and fifth masses. In addition, the later Deutsche Messe or German Mass, D 872,and the ultimate sixth mass would be longer.

The mass no. 2, commonly referred to as Schubert's Mass in G, was composed in less than a week (March 2 to 7, 1815), the year after his first mass had been successfully performed in Schubert's home parish. The second mass was originally more modestly scored than the first, requiring only a string orchestra and organ in addition to the soloists and choir. However, in the 1980s a set of parts for the mass were discovered at Klosterneuburg which are dated later than Schubert's full score. They not only include minor changes throughout the work, which would apparently represent Schubert's final intentions, they also include trumpet and timpani parts.

Apart from some passages for the soprano soloist, the solistic interventions are very modest. Characteristically for Schubert, he is more interested in an overall devotional mood of a religious composition than in individualistic romantic text-expression.

In this edition for women's voices, I use Schubert's first version for strings and organ which fits excellently to the sound of the women's choir.
