Waltzing Matilda is Australia’s most widely known folk song, and one that has been popularly suggested as a potential national anthem.The song narrates the story of an itinerant worker (swagman) making a drink of tea at a bush camp (billy) and stealing a sheep (jumbuck) to eat. When the sheep’s owner (squatter) arrives with three police officers (troopers) to arrest the worker, he drowns himself in a small lake (billabong) and goes on to haunt the site.The tune is most probably based on the traditional Scottish song Thou Bonnie Wood Of Craigielea.The original lyrics were written in 1895 by the poet and nationalist Banjo Paterson, and it was first published as sheet music in 1903.This is a straightforward but useful arrangement for concert band and SATB Choir. Charles Wesley's poem Jacob Wrestling is better known by its first line, Come, O Thou Traveler Unknown. A sermon in itself, the poem recontextualizes the struggle of the Old Testament story of Jacob wrestling with an angel to current believers' struggles with faith. Isaac Watts, one of the fathers of English hymnody, stated that this poem was worth all the verses [he] had written. It is set here to a traditional Scottish melody, Candler or Ye Banks and Braes of Bonnie Doon, and arranged for SATB choir. It opens with a tenor soli, joined by the other voices. When the speaker makes demands of his divine opponent, the anthem modally shifts to the parallel minor. Eventually, the choir wrestles, as the four wrestling verses of the poem are sung at the same time in a 4-part canon. Finally, the speaker's epiphany is accompanied by a key change and a joyous conclusion in 4-part harmony.

The music has a ring of oriental promise according to one appreciative member of the congregation at the original performance. The pdf file contains all movements in their transposed versions (Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei) and also the original organ voluntary (untransposed) which can be used at the end of the service if required. The sound sample is the Agnus from the original untransposed version for men's voices, sung by the Manchester Cathedral Voluntary Choir. It is scored for mixed choir, children's or youth choir, soprano and baritone soloists and a moderate size orchestra. The first movement tells of a solemn, still, and peaceful earth, and the second of a jubilant heaven.
