Taken from the account in Matthew 21:7-11, this cheerful Palm Sunday anthem tells the story of a smiling, caring Jesus as he makes his triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Use of optional temple blocks (or other block instruments) brings to life the steady, rhythmical gait of the donkey as it carries the Son of David through the adoring crowds. The easy-to-learn melody and recurring refrain make this anthem a wonderful piece to use with choirs of younger and older children.

After its premiere at Stanford it got selected by ACM ( Access Contemporary Music) and performed multiple times, including in their Best of Weekly Readings concerts.

For Friday’s concert ACM founder, Seth Boustead, and his gifted young musicians returned to five of their favorites among the more than 200 submitted works. A sense of 21st-century life-slightly edgy, slightly dark-ran like a faint electric current through the short pieces. There was plenty of dissonance, but it was subtle, adding sparkle to the often childlike sweetness of Brydern’s Homecoming for violin, clarinet and piano. Homecoming was full of arrivals and departures, moving easily from introspective moments to episodes with a strong tango sway or a hint of sinewy stride piano rhythms.

Eli's Comin' is a song written and recorded in 1967 by American singer-songwriter and pianist Laura Nyro. The song was first released in 1968 on Nyro's album, 'Eli and the Thirteenth Confession' and covered the following year by the band Three Dog Night, which reached number 10 in the Billboard Top 100. Other cover versions include artists such as trumpeter Maynard Fergusson and The 5th Dimension. This arrangement has been adapted from the jazz ensemble version by Michael Sweeney.
