Here's a fun big band composition inspired by the title phrase, Wackadoo! In most parts of the world, this phrase means someone who is crazy. However, in Australia it has a different usage, as an exclamantion indicating something fun and exciting, but typically delivered in an understated/unassuming way.This tune certainly has some funky wackiness, but is underpinned by down-home, old-timey (even corny!?) melodic material and a funky groove throughout. The saxophone section is featured extensively in the soli sections and with a solo section open for lead alto or tenor sax.Rhythm section parts have some complexity in some of the written parts, however have chord changes indicated throughout to enabling players to render their own groove if the written parts are too difficult.Hope you enjoy!

Although the two of them did not end up dating, it still made for a beautiful piece of music.The Blue Stripe was performed (in a slightly different arrangement) for the first time ever by Binghamton University's Explorchestra, on 2 December 2017.
