Flute,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1287662 By James Strauss. By Richard Strauss. Arranged by James Strauss. 20th Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Jewish,Sacred. Score and part. 31 pages. James Strauss #878687. Published by James Strauss (A0.1287662). Strauss and the Dance of the Seven VeilsThe Dance of the Seven Veils is a performance by Salome before King Herod Antipas, depicted in modern stage productions, literature, and visual arts. This dance is an elaboration of the New Testament story of the Feast of Herod and the execution of John the Baptist. While the New Testament does not give the dance a name, the title Dance of the Seven Veils originated from the 1893 English translation of Oscar Wilde's French play, Salome, which included the stage direction Salome dances the dance of the seven veils. Richard Strauss also incorporated the dance into his opera Salome in 1905.The concept of Salome's dance involving seven veils can be traced back to Wilde's play, where he was influenced by earlier French writers who portrayed Salome as a symbol of female lust. Wilde envisioned the dance as an act of unveiling, symbolizing the revealing of Salome's true self. He drew inspiration from Gustave Flaubert's story Herodias, in which Salome performs a hand dance to please Antipas. Wilde initially intended to follow Flaubert's version but later changed his approach. The idea of the dance being associated with veils can be linked to the popularity of veil dances during that time, which were westernized interpretations of Middle Eastern dance styles. Notably, the dancer Loïe Fuller was known for her veil dances. Wilde's play did not provide a detailed description of the dance, but it is commonly assumed to involve a series of veils being removed, symbolizing the process of unveiling oneself.Strauss's operatic adaptation of Salome also includes the Dance of the Seven Veils. Although the dance remains unnamed in the music, Salome's sexual fascination with John the Baptist seems to motivate her request, while Herod appears pleased. The visual interpretation of this scene can vary depending on the production, with some emphasizing its eroticism. Strauss specified that the dance should be thoroughly decent, as if it were being done on a prayer mat, but some performances have portrayed it in a more explicit manner.James Strauss's choice to program well-known orchestral pieces for the flute and piano stems from the technical challenges they present, both instrumentally and interpretatively. It allows the flautist to explore different timbres and a romantic style of playing, inspired by Orchestral mass sustained phrases and intense vibrato found in this repertoire. Transcribing orchestral pieces for the flute presents certain difficulties, such as playing loudly and with a full tone in the lower register or producing high notes that gradually fade away. Despite these challenges, the purpose is to challenge the flute's traditional role and explore its expressive capabilities through this repertoire.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1042210 By Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovski. By Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovski. Arranged by Stepan Esipoff Edited. Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Instructional,Romantic Period,Wedding. Score. 8 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #647014. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.1042210). The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is a dance for a ballerina. It is the third movement in The Nutcracker pas de deux. This pas de deux is from Act 2 of the 1892 ballet The Nutcracker. It is danced by the principal female dancer. The number was choreographed by Lev Ivanov to music written by Tchaikovsky. Choreographer Marius Petipa wanted the Sugar Plum Fairy's music to sound like drops of water shooting from a fountain. Tchaikovsky found the ideal instrument to do this job in Paris in 1891. It was then that he came across the recently invented celesta. This instrument looked like a piano. It sounded like bells. Tchaikovsky wrote, [The celesta is] midway between a tiny piano and a Glockenspiel, with a divinely wonderful sound. He wanted to use the celesta in The Nutcracker. He asked his publisher to buy one. He wanted to keep the purchase a secret. He did not want other Russian composers to get wind of it and ... use it for unusual effects before me. Tchaikovsky introduced the celesta to Russian music lovers on 19 March 1892 when the Nutcracker Suite was performed for the Russian Musical Society in St. Petersburg. The instrument is forever identified with the Sugar Plum Fairy. It is heard in other parts of Act 2 of The Nutcracker besides the Sugar Plum Fairy's dance.[3] The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is one of the ballet's best known musical numbers. It is often jazzed up for television commercials at Christmas time. This arrangement was written by Stepan Esipoff and Edited by FLAVIO REGIS CUNHA. Intermediate level Format: Concert 9 x 12 inches. 8 pages.

Large Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Bass Guitar,Clarinet,Drums,Flute,Piano,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.876447 Composed by Joe Procopio. Dance,Jazz,Pop. Score and parts. 24 pages. JoeCopio Music LLC #53323. Published by JoeCopio Music LLC (A0.876447). LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) Back to School 2015 From PAPA’S FAMOUS DANCES by Joe Procopio LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) is a delightful Latin flavored dance that was inspired by Little Miss Lilly who could tumble on command all by her big self when she was only 15 months old. When I first saw her dance and tumble at such a young age, I was so moved that I wrote this piece to celebrate her ability to amaze everyone with her dancing and tumbling. LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) was originally written and arranged for a small ensemble, band, stage band or combo with flexible instrumentation so that it may be performed with only two Saxophones (Alto Sax I and Alto Sax II) and a standard backup with Piano/Keyboard, Guitar, Bass and Drums. In addition, any combo may be augmented by adding any or all of the parts included for Flute, Clarinet, Tenor Sax, and Baritone Sax. This flexible or variable instrumentation of LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) makes it unique and perfect for schools and colleges that do not have a permanent roster of music students entering their music programs annually. It also eases the burden for Directors searching for good music to perform for groups with ever changing numbers of music students. What’s more, LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) has a section open for solos to enable the ensemble to feature players who can improvise well enhancing not only the group’s enjoyment but also everyone’s listening pleasure. This piece is composed in the same style of the other dances in the set - all of which have been performed by College and High School students in many major concert events along the East Coast with great success. It is published separately and in a set entitled PAPA’S FAMOUS DANCES PART 1 from the sets PAPA’S FAMOUS DANCES Part I and Part II. Each Part contains 3 Dances. I have adapted the audio here for synthesizer so that it may be previewed. It is one of 6 works named and dedicated to each of my 6 Grandchildren: Lilly, Mary, Lydia, Emma, Joey and Wilson. Instrumentation for LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) includes SCORE and parts for: ALTO SAX I ALTO SAX II TENOR SAX BARITONE SAX FLUTE CLARINET PIANO/KEYBOARD - GUITAR - BASS - DRUMS VITA Joe Procopio is a master musician and teacher with proven success for over 50 years. Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Instrumental Duet,Marimba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755178 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 38 pages. Sy Brandon #3409941. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755178). Three Greek Dances was composed for Konrad Owens and Adam Brennan. The dances are stylized by preserving the flavor of the dances while treating the material in a more developmental and contrapuntal manner. Kalamationos is the most popular Greek dance and is Peloponnesian in origin. Like its cousin, the Syrtos the national dance of Greece, it is in 7/8 meter grouped as 3-2-2. The Syrtos is a more dragging dance while the Kalamationos is more bouncy. Zeibekiko has its origin in the Eastern Aegean Islands. It is in 9/4 meter at a slow tempo with a lot of syncopation. This movement is written in 3/4 for the ease in reading but preserves the phrasing of 9/4 most of the time. Hassapikos is a butcher's dance in 2/4 time with eight measure phrases. It begins moderately and increases tempo throughout the dance.

Gustav Holst: Japanese Suite Op.33Mvt.I Ceremonial DanceArranged wind dectet/bass (double wind quintet)2nd oboe plays cor anglaisClarinet parts are in AThe Japanese Suite was written at the request of the dancer Michio Ito, who was working in London in 1915.Most of the principal themes are traditional Japanese tunes, which Ito provided to Holst by whistling them. The lone exception is the “Dance of the Marionette,†which is original to Holst.Despite its origins, there is little that is “Japanese-sounding†about the resulting suite. Rather, Holst set these tunes in the same kinds of harmonies and textures that he was using in his other works, also taking the opportunity to experiment with other influences that were in the air at this time, an openness few of his British contemporaries shared. It is not known if the suite was ever used for Ito’s dance performances, but in September 1919 it did become the first of Holst’s works to be performed at a Promenade Concert, after which it received a handful of performances in the British provinces. The suite consists of six parts including a prelude and an interlude:Prelude: Song of the fishermanCeremonial dance (This arrangement)Dance of the marionettesInterlude: Song of the fishermanDance under the cherry treeFinale: Dance of the wolvesIt is unknown whether Ito did indeed use the music. The first concert performance  was during the Proms of September 1, 1919 under the direction of Holst himself.
