Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.551688 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by James Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. 77 pages. Jmsgu3 #5336993. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.551688). Mendelssohn's Op. 32, The Fair Melusina Overture is a concert overture inspired by the legend of Melusine, a water sprite who marries a mortal under certain conditions. The overture is not a literal retelling of the story but rather a reflection of its themes and moods. Mendelssohn held this work in high regard, characterized by its dreamy and fluid musical landscape, reflecting the happiness and unhappiness of the two main characters. The piece was initially received politely, but Mendelssohn subsequently revised it, and it remains the least familiar of his series of concert overtures. The overture is known for its harmonic power and is sometimes rendered in English as The Fair Melusine. The legend of the fair Melusina is a tale of a water sprite who marries a mortal man under the condition that he must never see her on a Saturday. However, he eventually breaks his promise, leading to the tragic fate of Melusina. She is often depicted as a mermaid, a serpent from the waist down, or a dragon, and her story is associated with themes of love, trust, and the consequences of betrayal. The legend has inspired various literary and musical works, including Felix Mendelssohn's The Fair Melusina Overture, which reflects the themes and moods of the story. The tale has been revisited and revised over the centuries and continues to captivate audiences with its tragic and romantic elements.

The piano part is quite accessible. It's a slow, dreamy piece which is ideal for the intermediate violinist. It would make a good recital piece or could be effective as a relaxing encore.

Cello,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.550051 Composed by Franz Liszt. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Holiday,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 20 pages. Jmsgu3 #4592271. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.550051). Widely recognized recital piece. Dreams of Love - perfect for Valentine's Day.Franz Liszt's Liebestraume is a set of three published in 1850. The word Liebestraume is German for Dreams of Love, each of the three pieces is based on a poem about love and death. The third piece, Liebestraum No. 3, is the most popular and is split into three sections, each divided by a fast cadenza requiring a high degree of technical ability. The melody throughout the piece is the same, but each time, it is varied, especially near the middle of the work, where the climax is reached. The article is meant to be played briskly, with emotion, and is inspired by or reminiscent of night. The poem that inspired Liebestraum No. 3 is about unconditional mature love, expressing the extent of the speaker's love through the sacrifice he's willing to endure. The piece is a crucial example of program music because it references poems about love and death.Franz Liszt's Liebestraume has influenced many composers, including:Richard Wagner: Liszt's compositions, including Liebestraume, influenced Wagner's music, particularly his operas.Hector Berlioz: Berlioz was a Liszt contemporary influenced by his music, including Liebestraume.Camille Saint-Saëns: Saint-Saëns was a French composer influenced by Liszt's music, including Liebestraume.Sergei Rachmaninoff: Rachmaninoff was a Russian composer influenced by Liszt's music, including Liebestraume. In summary, Liszt's Liebestraume has influenced music by being a perfect example of romantic and program music, inspiring emotion, and is considered one of the most beautiful and romantic pieces ever written.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1508683 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Zellev. 19th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Instructional,Romantic Period. Score. 3 pages. Zellev Music #1083948. Published by Zellev Music (A0.1508683). Key Signature: C? minorTime Signature: 4/4Tempo: Piu mosso (recommended at 88bpm. i choose 105bpm for the audio, to make it more interesting.)Difficulty: Advanced IntermediateThème et variations, for piano in C sharp minor, Op. 73 composed around 1895.Description by Robert Cummings,The Thème et variations here is a large piece, usually having a duration well over a quarter-hour. It came a year after Fauré's Nocturne in D flat major No. 6, which ended a six-year hiatus from writing piano music for the composer. Fauré was also in the process of evolving his keyboard style toward bolder harmonic and thematic means of expression, but this work is largely conservative, even exhibiting hints of Schumann, especially in the main theme. That theme, marked Quasi adagio, is stately and presented in short, somewhat repetitive-sounding phrases. It has an expressive depth in its mixture of the noble and gloomy, of elegance and splendor. The first variation does not stray far in mood or in thematic change, but the second is lively and playful, exuding brilliant, almost Rachmaninovian colors. The ensuing variant is moderately paced, but still quite playful in its greater muscle. The music in the Molto Adagio sixth variation may offer the greatest depth here, and that in the Andante molto moderato eighth variation, the dreamiest and most serene. With the tenth variation, the music turns quite lively and colorful, and in the concluding 11th, the mood shifts to a quiet, reserved manner at the outset to a serenely triumphant one at the end.
