Piano Accompaniment, Dan CutchenTime: approximately 6:00And Can It Be That I Should Gain? is a Christian hymn written by Charles Wesley. And Can It Be was written in 1738 to celebrate Wesley's conversion, which he regarded as having taken place on May 21 of that year. This beautiful hymn has been popular and enduring. And Can It Be That I Should Gain is perhaps one of the most joyfully poignant hymns penned by Charles Wesley (1707-1788). On Whitsunday (Pentecost), May 21, 1738, three days before his brother John experienced his heart strangely warmed,’ Charles was convalescing in the home of John Bray, a poor mechanic, when he heard a voice saying, In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, arise, and believe, and thou shalt be healed of all thy infirmities. The voice was most likely Mr. Bray’s sister who felt commanded to say these words in a dream.Anglican hymn writer Timothy Dudley-Smith, notes that the following then happened:Charles got out of bed and opening his Bible read from the Psalms: He have put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God, followed by the first verse of Isaiah 40, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. He wrote in his journal, I have found myself at peace with God, and rejoiced in the hope of love Christ (Dudley-Smith, 1987, 1).The statement from Mr. Bray’s sister sparked within Charles a conviction like he had never felt before. Moved and convicted in spirit, Charles wrestled with these words until he came to rest in his faith, knowing that it is by faith we are saved (Ephesians 2:8).Soon after this conversion experience, he wrote two hymns in celebration of the amazing love he had come to know: And Can It Be that I Should Gain and Where Shall My Wondering Soul Begin? (United Methodist Hymnal, 342)There has been some debate as to which hymn was written first, but most current scholarship accepts the latter as the first hymn written by Charles after his conversion experience. No matter its place in the chronology of Wesley's output, And Can It Be has been and remains one of his most remarkable hymns, expressing like no other the rapturous joy of receiving salvation. And Can It Be That I Should Gain. Abramek was born in 1930 in Lodz, Poland, and died 1944 in that country's infamous concentration camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau. He wrote this poem during the time that his family was trapped in the Lodz ghetto. This poem was not found until 1983 when Eliezer (Lolek) Grynfeld, the poet's half-brother, discovered it among their late father's belongings. Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1504237 Composed by Joe Darion and Mitch Leigh. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Pop. 29 pages. John Ivor Holland #1079695. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1504237). Man of La Mancha is a 1965 musical with a book by Dale Wasserman, music by Mitch Leigh, and lyrics by Joe Darion. It is adapted from Wasserman's non-musical 1959 teleplay I, Don Quixote, which was in turn inspired by Miguel de Cervantes and his 17th-century novel 'Don Quixote'. It tells the story of the 'mad' knight Don Quixote as a play within a play, performed by Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition. The work is not and does not pretend to be a faithful rendition of either Cervantes' life or Don Quixote (Wasserman complained repeatedly about people taking the work as a musical version of Don Quixote). The original Broadway production ran for 2,328 performances and won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical; it has been revived four times on Broadway and there have been mulitple productions in different laguages around the world, becoming one of the most enduring works of musical theatre; it was adapted into a movie in 1972, starring Peter O'Toole. The Impossible Dream is one of the enduring musical themes throughout the show and has also been performed by many diverse artists over the decades, including Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones and Aretha Franklin.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1152623 By The Cranberries. By Dolores O'Riordan and Noel Hogan. Arranged by Sam Stanley. Pop,Rock. 15 pages. Sam Stanley #752853. Published by Sam Stanley (A0.1152623). This arrangement of Dreams by the Cranberries is intended to be very flexible. It is intended for SATB choir, but could also be used by a small group of vocalists. The piano part is a reduction of the original recording's accompaniment. Lead sheet symbols are written above the top staff and above the piano part in case other instrumentalists are used to accompany the vocalists. The vocal harmony is very accessible, especially to individuals who are already familiar with the original recording. The highest two voices preserve the harmony from the original recording, while the lowest two voices are unique to this arrangement. There is an optional solo at the end written for high soprano voice, but this solo could also be performed by a small group of high sopranos or by a small group in open octaves.
