The Symphony is in 4 movements following a more classical ordering and is a little under 35 minutes in length. The initial rising scale idea with 'missing' notes pervades much of the material in the symphony The symphony took longer to compose than is normal for me as it was composed during the difficult period of my father's swiftly evolving final illness, death & dealing with the aftermath. The shadow of my father's final illness & witnessing his swift decline particularly hangs over the slow 2nd movement. The first movement after a broad but forward moving introduction, is energetic with a continual forward momentum. The 3rd movement is a deliberately elusive scherzo movement with a strange inconclusive coda. The finale, after a reserved opening is surprisingly optimistic pushing to a sonorous conclusion. As is the norm for me, I composed directly into full score.Orchestral parts can be supplied upon request.

Duration: 5:38Dieterich Buxtehude (c. 1637–1707) was a German organist and composer of the Baroque era. He is known for his large-scale works, including the Toccata in B flat major (BuxWV 155), which is one of his most famous pieces. The Toccata was composed in 1690 and is a virtuosic display of the organ’s power and range. The piece begins with a long and stately introduction, which is followed by a lively and energetic fugue. The fugue is then repeated, but with different variations. This creates an exciting contrast and a sense of musical momentum. The piece ends with a short, chromatic passage which leads to a triumphant conclusion. The Toccata is one of Buxtehude’s most popular and beloved works and it has been performed and recorded by many renowned musicians. They are a contemporary arrangement of selected movements from the Five Wind Divertimentos for 3 basset horns, K. 439b which Mozart wrote in 1783.The Divertimentos are notable for their conciseness of form and their melodic richness. (Each divertimento has 5 movements.)They therefore make an excellent introduction to Mozart's piano music, even though they are not completely typical of Mozart's piano writing. We do not know for certain who made the arrangement, but Alexander Weinmann has shown that it was probably Ferdinand Kauer. The order of movements is not the same as in the original; moreover, some of the Trios have been exchanged and recapitulations have been shortened in some instances.This is my arrangement for wind quintet of Viennese Sonatina No.4 in Bb The original 3 parts have been reallocated around the quintet, with some octave and harmony additions.I have added an original natural horn part for a more authentic Mozart sound.
