Journey of Peril is a composition for emerging ensemble performing at an intermediate instrumental level. This composition moves several times between concert Eb Major and c minor allowing the ensemble timely experience in the two different tonalities. This is written with various repetitious sections which allows for quick rehearsal time and successful and performance. Again, this is interesting and playable music for young and emerging wind/percussion ensembles.

Shadowlands:  A Journey

PROGRAM NOTES:
Shadowlands:  A Journey is a programmatic work in three movements for Flute Choir written in memory of the composer’s uncle who died from cancer. 

Movement One (Out of the Darkness), written in a minor key, contains a plaintive melody conveying sadness which later transforms to hope. 

Movement Two (Into the Shadows) begins with a beautiful bass and alto flute duet written in quartal harmony.  The melody is introspective, yet, in conjunction with syncopated chords by 4ths, keeps moving the listener forward toward a climax of resignation. 

Movement Three (Moving Toward the Light), written in a major key, conveys a feeling of hope and peace, ends with a touching chorale which extensively utilizes chords with added seconds.

Scored for piccolo, 3 flutes, alto flute, and bass flute, and opt. contrabass flute (doubling bass flute part)

Shrouded Journey is a almost 2 minute early intermediate piece for piano solo. It is marked by a bit of melancholy without despair. It reminds me of when the way is unclear, but the purpose of the journey is certain. There are no sustain pedal markings, but it should be used at the pianist's discretion.

This arrangement of Chick Corea's Sea Journey was written for an intermediate level vocal jazz ensemble (no extreme ranges, very few splits in soprano and tenor only.) Tenors and basses set up the opening ostinato, with ethereal sopranos and altos taking the melody. An open solo section (vocal or instrumental) includes some very cool background lines. The ending is very powerful, making this a good choice to close your concert or festival set. A master rhythm part (mostly chord symbol;s with slashes) is included.
