Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1120710 By Herbie Hancock. By Herbie Hancock. Arranged by John Fries. 20th Century,Blues,Comedy,Jazz,Standards. 15 pages. John Fries #721961. Published by John Fries (A0.1120710). TYPE IN JOHN FRIES TO SEE ALL I HAVE TO OFFER! Growing up in the '40s and '50s in Chicago, Herbie Hancock was around street vendors, including the watermelon men, who peddled the fruit. This provided the title and musical inspiration for the song. Hancock wrote: In reflecting on my childhood, I recalled the cry of the watermelon man making his rounds through the back streets and alleys of Chicago's South Side. The wheels of his wagon beat out the rhythm on the cobblestones. This is one of the most famous jazz compositions ever recorded. Hancock was just 22 when he released it on his first album, Takin' Off.

String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: AX.00-PR-0003866 Score. By Sam And Dave. By David Porter and Isaac Hayes. Arranged by Ed Zunic. Instructional. Score. 12 pages. Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music #00-PR-0003866. Published by Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music (AX.00-PR-0003866). UPC: 038081430522.A soulful Motown piece with engaging parts for all! This piece is great for teaching dotted rhythms, subdivision, syncopation, high third fingers in violin 2 & viola, a variety of finger patterns in all parts, and is good for studying key structure & accidentals. Sam and Dave's recording of Soul Man became one of Stax Records most successful singles in 1967. This arrangement stays true to that 45 RPM recording and recreates the Motown sound in a string orchestra setting.

Thanks, John. The composition that became famous as The Third Man Theme had long been in Karas's repertoire, but he had not played it in 15 years. When you play in a café, nobody stops to listen, Karas said. This tune takes a lot out of your fingers. I prefer playing 'Wien, Wien', the sort of thing one can play all night while eating sausages at the same time..
