This time, it is based on the monster of the cape of the storms, in the extreme south of the African continent, whose passage frightened for centuries the Portuguese sailors who wanted to go to the Indian Ocean. I used the texts by Luiz de Camões (Lusíadas) and Fernando Pessoa (Message), under whose narration I create a musical environment in search of the fantastic, the struggle and redemption. ''Cultural disintegration'' is a reflection of North American indigenous cultural change over time. ''Generations X,Y, Q'' takes its point of departure from the incredible speed with which opinions of others are made after clicking a computer mouse. Finally, ''Love from the Obverse'' is a set of miniature variations guided by empathizing with someone else's love for another. The Heavens Are Telling is a very accessible classic SATB anthem for choir and organ.  I took two lines of music and lyrics from Haydn's 1797 oratorio The Creation and made that my chorus.  I then wrote verses using lyrics from other parts of The Creation and then wrote new music for the verses to sound like a continuation of Haydn's work.  The structure is through composed but with Ch/Vs/Ch/Vs/Ch/Ch with the final chorus having the lines reversed.  The piece makes a stately declaration of the wonders of God's creation of the heavens.  11 pages; 1:50 minutesThe range for each part is only 1 octave.Be the first choir to record this anthem and send me the link and I will post it.    plbeaman@gmail.com      Temporarily I have attached a recording of the vocal solo version, which is in another key, so you can get the text and main melody; which is then followed by a MIDI version of organ and 'aahs', to give you an idea of the SATB version.

Here's a chirpy little song from Rodgers & Hammerstein's 1949 production of South Pacific, also mildly mashed up with another song, Bali Hai, from the same production. Lots of covers, from Ella Fitzgerald to a Brit punker who called himself Captain Sensible. (He was sensible enough to spend two weeks at the top of the UK singles list with his version in 1982.)This song draws some criticism from the politically correct for its pidgin English lyric (it's sung by a Polynesian woman in the musical).
