Here's a chirpy little song from Rodgers & Hammerstein's 1949 production of South Pacific, also mildly mashed up with another song, Bali Hai, from the same production. Lots of covers, from Ella Fitzgerald to a Brit punker who called himself Captain Sensible. (He was sensible enough to spend two weeks at the top of the UK singles list with his version in 1982.)This song draws some criticism from the politically correct for its pidgin English lyric (it's sung by a Polynesian woman in the musical). It is also Captain von Trapp's subliminal goodbye to his beloved homeland, using the flower as a symbol of his loyalty to Austria.
