Small Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Piano Accompaniment,Soprano Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.764673 Composed by Robert Schumann (1810-1856). Arranged by James Pybus. Contest,Festival,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 6 pages. James Pybus #3112961. Published by James Pybus (A0.764673). Abendlied (Evening Song) is from a cycle of 12 piano duets, Op. 85, written in 1849, a particularly prolific year of composition for Schumann. The great Hungarian violinist Joseph Joachim took the final number, consisting merely of a completely unpianistic one-handed melody with chordal accompaniment for two hands, and arranged it for violin, oboe or flute. The present arrangement expands that list of instruments to include the Soprano Saxophone, in its infancy at the time the piece was composed. An alternate part for Alto Saxophone is also included. The soaring, free melody is reminiscent of Schumann’s Manfred music, written around the same time. This piece is very demanding in terms of breath control and phrasing. It is an excellent choice for a college or university recital programme and is also accessible for an advanced high school player. Duration: 2:30. Contact me at james.pybus56@gmail.com.
